The guilty until proven innocent mindset is one of the worst things to come out of this generation.

#cancelnichuskin

Amirite?

Yeah, definitely something new to this generation. The older generations were just lynching people based on nothing, the nasty things people say on the internet are really what offend your delicate sensibilities though.

If you were a victim of trafficking you would be grateful to be out of your situation and with the authorities and EMS... this woman was combative the entire time, also said something along the lines of "I should've never came here, he's a bad guy," not the typical relief or thankfulness or someone just rescued from trafficking.

I think she got enticed to hang out with a guy because he's rich and famous then clearly regretted it after a bender and realizing he's a douche. It's like those Instagram models who getting hit on by rich guys offering them free vacations.

Nichushkin definitely got some explaining to do to his wife though.

You have no idea how a victim of trafficking would or "should" act.

Her behavior is certainly not proof either way of her situation and the idea of how someone "should" act in complicated situations like this can be extremely damaging to all the people involved.

You think this woman was in Nuke's room getting absolutely obliterated by herself? Or do you think maybe they were both partaking? My money is on Nuke leaving to get treatment for substance abuse (probably at the request of the team).

Possibly but there seems to be nothing on him entering rehab.

Also I doubt he’s the first player to have a late night bender with a hooker and some blow.

That video is a nothing burger. Just a bunch of context-less discussion for internet warriors to write fan fic about.
and for other internet warriors to defend lol.

That's the way the pendulum has swung. It's pegged on the "react as if the worst case scenario is true and adjust as necessary"
that or "defend at all costs no matter how bad it looks".

The thing that makes me go "hmm" is why would he miss multiple games in a do or die series where the Avs needed him badly, including a game 7 if this whole thing was nothing?
It happened kind of quickly. The Av's basically had a couple of hours to determine the proper course of action. Perhaps the team decided they didn't want the distraction and sent him home. In the end, it was the smart move because the player is the one being scrutinized, not the organization.

Entirely reasonably that they might grab her ID to see who she is, especially considering she’s obviously very intoxicated.

There’s also the possibility that she’s either lying or mistaken (eg can’t find it because she’s loaded).

There are many many many more people who overstay expired visas in this country than there are victims of human trafficking. I don’t know why everyone wants this to be some major scandal when it’s probably just a young rich athlete and some woman who was enticed to hang out with a young rich athlete overdoing it on the party favors.
I get it. I don't know the story. However it is a big deal and a scandal regardless of whether someone has the girl's passport or not.

1) On the afternoon of a Stanley Cup Playoff game, it's pretty clear that a key player was so impaired that playing the game was not an option. That's a scandal in and of itself.
2) A young lady who was with that player was apparently in such a state that a team doctor directed for an ambulance to be called.
3) The young lady was agitated and yelling that some "bad guy" took her documents.
4) The player in question has not been seen or heard of since -- let alone playing for his team in the playoff games subsequent to that day.

Now, some are assuming that they young lady is an eastern european prostitute who is under the control of a pimp who has her travel documents. Perhaps that isn't the case - I don't know. But let's not pretend that doesn't happen around the world every single day. It just does.

If I were a betting man, a player with a real substance abuse problem of some sort connected with a hooker (hooker and her pimp are probably entirely separate issue) and they both got well and truly f***ed up. So much so the young lady needed medical assistance.

Regardless, let's not act like this is anything but a complete and utter shit show. i.e. A pretty major scandal.

It really doesn't. There are several more plausible explanations for that than "Nuke is human trafficking!!!", ranging from completely innocuous to she was lying to cover her own butt because she's not in the U.S. legally. Any of those explanations are magnitudes more likely than the rage-baity stuff everyone is jumping to. Nichushkin's own medical/mental health information being redacted is a nothing burger -- all it implies is that he, too, was partying hard.

I don't think anyone should be jumping to the conclusion that he was personally doing human trafficking. That said, this woman is pretty strongly hinting that she has been human trafficked and she wasn't in his hotel room to watch TV. The general lack of information-sharing about Nuke's role is an indicator that something unsavory happened behind the scenes that they are wanting to keep quiet.

Bear in mind that this league has had prominent players get caught full-on drug trafficking, severely beating their S.O.s, covering up for sexual assault by a coach, etc. We shouldn't jump to conclusions but we also shouldn't be assuming anything is beyond the reach of possibility here.

My guess is they knew if he was questioned by police he could be subject to a drug test which he probably would have failed so they got him outta there before that could happen.

Avs fans, is the general consensus that he hired a prostitute (just for fun, unaware she was being trafficked) and is now in rehab? Or anything more sinister?

It seems obvious that there was something untoward going on involving Nuke, this woman, or both - it's difficult to imagine a situation like this unfolding without one or both parties trying to do something sneaky - but the reality is that we in the general public don't have enough information to say anything meaningful about what exactly happened. All we can do is infer and speculate, which is to say, post random wild guesses on internet forums. I'm filing this under "wait for more info."

Just gonna wait for all the facts before developing any kind of stance.

It had to be something, it's not like he missed some regular season game, they held him out of a game 7 elimination game in the playoffs, that is pretty bizarre.

Flying the guy out of Seattle immediately is bizarre too, like it seems like they were worried he would get arrested.

It's not like flying to Denver means he can't get arrested lol.

I think they went overcautious and just got him away from the team to avoid making it into a bigger mess.

To all those saying "wait for the facts". The only facts that we have are all pretty damning here. If Nuke's agent or the Avs want to clear the air they've had ample time to do so. If you don't want people speculating, release some info. Instead we've gotten complete silence.

What do you stand to lose when you wait for more information to come out?

does every team have an armed officer traveling with them everywhere?

Pretty important to remember while reading all these scripts for Taken 7
From all we can tell (or that I've kept up with) there is not a criminal investigation re: VN.
He's not near a big enough "star" athlete or have the clout for this to be covered up.
Especially being it occurred on the road.

People are going to form opinions based on the facts being given and there's nothing wrong with that. So far everything presented looks very poor for Nuke. I'd be happy to change my opinion if Nuke's camp or the Av's want to present more about the incident but they've been completely silent going on 6 weeks now.

Don't forget, from what our Finnish posters have said, Lekhonen's father commented about the occurance not long after the incident. He said Nichushkin would not return for the remainder playoffs and sounded not the least suprised; like the problem was an on-going issue.

As of now the most rational explanation is a drug/responsibility problem that spiraled out of control. A drunk and incohrerent woman (perhaps a sex worker) at the team hotel on game day was the last straw. The Avs sent him back to Denver ASAP for his and the teams well-being.
The team physician mentioning Nichushkin's "medical problem" also gives creedence to this.

And Nichushkin hasn't disappeared per se. His sister posted a photo on instagram of their family vacationing in Turkey (I think it was) a week or so ago.

The only fact we know is that it isn't a criminal matter, on his part. You guys are acting like he was driving around with her in the trunk of his car. Move along, none of this is your business.

What are you referring to?

The part where the doctor goes to share something important about Nuke’s “medical history” which has to do with whatever went on in that hotel room, then stops to ask if it can be kept secret, then the cop tells him not to say it because they’re being recorded.

Hard to imagine it was something like “yeah he’s got a bum ankle, let’s take it easy on the stairs”.

If you were a victim of trafficking you would be grateful to be out of your situation and with the authorities and EMS... this woman was combative the entire time, also said something along the lines of "I should've never came here, he's a bad guy," not the typical relief or thankfulness or someone just rescued from trafficking.

That is...not at all how human trafficking often works. The levels of manipulation and control are often deliberately aimed at distancing the victim from those first responders and people who could actually intervene. Creating a fear of those situations and interactions. Separating those people from any family/friends/etc. who could raise alarm bells. Using power and influence to instill a fear of other authorities in various ways.

It could well be that this woman has a substance abuse problem, maybe overstayed a visa or whatever else. But that is exactly the sort of person who is vulnerable to human trafficking and getting trapped in these sorts of exploitative situations. Those sort of issues are leveraged to coerce people into those types of situations. When they do have those other worries about visa/passport/immigration status...they're conditioned to be fearful of the authorities and distanced from the people who could help and make things unpleasant for the people doing the exploitation.

Even in Canada...when it comes to human trafficking, there's a pretty significant problem with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. They've got a better claim to be in this land than pretty much anyone...but it doesn't stop them from being distanced from their communities and exploited.

Ultimately...it doesn't matter what this woman's visa status, substance abuse problems, or anything else is. That's not an excuse for exploitation. And whatever the case with her jumbled story...it's clear that she is in distress.

The biggest thing is...whatever is going on here, it is clearly not something that you want your multimillion dollar sports player employee involved with. Not to imply that Nichushkin is directly involved in anything...but it's clearly not a situation that you want your players anywhere in the vicinity of. Just...don't be involved and associated with extremely intoxicated women with questionable identity/visa status while also intoxicated yourself, on a gameday afternoon. To the point that law enforcement and emergency services are being called. If you can manage that, you're probably golden. It's not an extremely tall bar to hurdle.

I'm mostly just really not impressed with the antagonistic way these officers and EMS workers approached the situation. Yelling at someone in distress with a clear and present language barrier, to stop repeating themselves is just...the least helpful thing in the world.

Like...imagine you're in Russia or Ukraine or Turkey or in think it's Czechia where that Hostel movie happened, or honestly whatever, and you're drunk off your ass and maybe even high on something else. Are you not gonna be freaking out when the Cops there show up and start shouting at you to identify yourself and all this other information and telling you to stop repeating yourself even though those are probably some of the only words you actually know in Russian/Ukrainian/Czech/Whatever place you've ended up? Just like...real garbage tier police work tbh. Especially in a situation where this person may already have been conditioned to fear authorities. Instead of being open and compassionate to try to figure out what's going on...they basically just shout at her to stop saying the same thing. Pathetic tbh.

Damn, that poor woman. Why couldn't SPD get a translator or something? Curious they didn't investigate it for some form of offense in regards to Trafficking (not saying Val, but at the minimum the other guy that brought her and left her and took her passport)

While they wrote up the incident as non-criminal (The officer talking to the team doc was already determined to make it a non-criminal issue), surprised they didn't at least investigate the claims of trafficking (Check the camera, Check the camera). The Denver Police guy, basically said stuff likes this happens all the time (or something like that).
