The bit at the very end is unsettling.

I can only assume the woman, at that point, is talking about either the team doctor or a first responder (who else is putting her in the ambulance?). Kinda seems like Nuke and his acquaintance were both partying much harder than they should've been.

Why on earth would the guy take her passport? So he pimp her out himself?

Seems like a garbled mess of a story, sliced together to imply something other than the obvious.

The woman is intoxicated and worried. She probably had an expired visa. So she is stressing about that and saying her passport is gone. If she gave the cops her passport with an expired visa, she'd be in trouble. Deported and banned for 10 years.

Probably nobody did. She could be hiding it because her visa is expired. And that would result in deportation and a 10 year ban.

Not uncommon for passports to be taken as a form of coercion. I don't think she is refereeing to Nichushkin taking her passport. A lot missing from this story but I'd imagine there is a third party involved, far more likely she is a victim of human trafficking than trying to evade being deported.

If you were a victim of trafficking you would be grateful to be out of your situation and with the authorities and EMS... this woman was combative the entire time, also said something along the lines of "I should've never came here, he's a bad guy," not the typical relief or thankfulness or someone just rescued from trafficking.

I think she got enticed to hang out with a guy because he's rich and famous then clearly regretted it after a bender and realizing he's a douche. It's like those Instagram models who getting hit on by rich guys offering them free vacations.

Nichushkin definitely got some explaining to do to his wife though.

Police have repeatedly said there is no criminal investigation; so I doubt Nichushkin was holding her against her will, or complicit in some trafficking scheme.

It's nice to see people with experience in the field contributing to the discussion. Because I assume you, in some capacity, works with victims of trafficing based on your assumptions? Law enforcement, perhaps?

I assume you played professional hockey? If not then what makes you qualified to post anything here?

Exactly.

Not entirely sure what had happened following up to this, or if im witnessing the start. First impression is she isnt willing to comply with the police and has something to gain by not giving details she has been asked for.

It's awkward when I can actually answer yes to that question.. Short but sweet though.

Doesn't matter, however. There's a huge difference in discussing hockey players, teams, results and making assumptions of how victims of human trafficing behaves in stressful situations and making it sound like the truth.

I wouldn't go into a thread saying "no player care about money, only winning the cup." Why? Because it's stupid to make that assumption and it's extremely unlikely that it's true.

I remember in like 2017 a Russian overstayer in Thailand tried to avoid arrest by saying she was an escort on a yacht with Trump and some Russian oligarchs and that she had info. It was a lie to buy some time, but boy did it sound juicy.

Point is, people in distress often say things in exasperation are untruthful, so much so that we shouldn't be drawing any conclusions based on incomplete information. You never know who might run with misinformation

What on earth leads you to believe it’s “far more likely” she’s one of the few thousand estimated victims of human trafficking in the US per year than that she’s one of the estimated half million who overstay their visas each year?
