Matthews and Nylander are locked in for medium-long term

Marner would probably stay, I don't know if he's toxic in the locker room

Tavares though, you can do so much with his 11M.
Would the Kings have any interest in Marner? I bet they would. You could get a decent haul from them as they have a lot of good pieces.

Get 3 players ish for Marner and then let Tavares walk. I bet you could make this team extremely well balanced.

He is still good, just not at his current price point.
His skating is what really hurts him. We saw how important it is to have speed down the middle tonight. Domi looked fantastic. If all it took was a better line mate (Bertuzzi) and some extra ice time, I want to see more of this Domi.

Agreed

We aren’t gonna cater to him as much when he’s on the third line and I sure as hell wouldn’t give him pp1 for anything past maybe next year, knies should take that role soon enough

Without the pp he loses a lot of effectiveness and wit lower line mates we could see a 35-45 point center who isn’t great defensive player either

Well so long as he takes a contract that reflects this.
I suspect next year may be a good opportunity to move him away from Nylander, and see what he looks like on a separate line.
That would provide a pretty good indicator of his worth before he becomes a UFA.

I don't think he is good in all honesty. And I think having him play makes us a slower, more hesitant team. What I saw tonight, and it's only one game, made me realize, I don't see where we would miss him.
He would be a good PP specialist in the bottom 6.
Most important thing is both the coaches and himself needs to understand that he is a role player instead of a top player on the team.

The other thing we would have to consider is he would still (presumably) be the captain. I think him not being with the organization will help us on multiple levels.

It’s such a pleasure to watch hard blue collar work without fancy shmancy marner and turtle like jt. Having no entitled soft brats on the ice is actually awesome and is like a breath of fresh air.
I think with our current Dcorp, keeping the game simple is probably the best way to protect them. Just hope AM, JT, MM and Willie can stick to this simple game plan from now on.

I assume he would give the Captaincy up once he is in the bottom 6.

Fiala and Byfield???

Tre in person hearing in coming..
Or he is going to announce the trade for Jenner, lol

That doesn't seem to be a very common action. I don't recall (could be wrong) captaincy moving from one player to another whilst still on the team.

It is a far cleaner situation if the Leafs just let him walk and they pursue someone younger, more useful 5v5 and someone with a bit of a pulse.

Yeah, I had a quick look and then kind of stopped, but I started with Byfield and a dman. Then thought maybe Fiala or Arvidsson or Dabault (doubt they would).

Not a sexy name or as flashy but a solid middle 6er that could contribute.

They did it in SJ but that might not be a good example.
It will be cleaner to just cut him out but I doubt it will happen. He will most likely get the ROR contract or a bit more and fans will be happy.
As long as the coach and team don’t cater him, and he is at the right price. I don’t mind him on the team as long as he knows he is a supporting role player.

Didn’t watch tonight

Any comment on parayko play?
Solid, big, quite fast.
Kind of like Carlo in Boston.

Reminds me of the babcock tank year for Matthews. Those boys worked hard but luckily we had tank commander Bernier that got us last place

One of our best games of the season. Defence kept it simple, forwards skated hard all night. We should have had another 3 goals. Dominant performance, who would have thought that. Special mention has to go to McMann, Domi, Brodie, and Giordano. Need another like this on Thursday.

Didn't see the game, was on the course and played like the Leafs did v Sens...great to see the result of today's game.

Robertson 4 takeaways, 0 giveaways.

I've noticed more and more he's not getting pushed off of the puck nearly as much and he's not trying stuff that can work in junior hockey but gets shut down quickly in the NHL. IIRC, it took Kadri a season or two before he became NHL ready, both in terms of size/strength, and in mentality. He's definitely trending in the right direction.

It's amazing what guys can do with a bit of opportunity, the guys who dont play a lot took responsibility and played there hearts out

Thats our best team performance in quite some time and I wouldn't be in a hurry to break up that Domi line either

Those boys were flying
