Bobby Hull passes away (MOD #23- stay to hockey- see Admin warning within)

My dad who was born in the Soviet Union and has fond memories of the Summit series tells me he was most impressed by Bobby Hull from the Canadian side.
Tell your dad he needs to get his memory checked. Bobby Hull never played in the 72 series. He did however play in the 74 series that was with WHA players.

Bobby never forgot that none of it was possible without the fans, and treated them like gold right to the end. A gracious gentleman who will be sorely missed by many fans of all ages. A true Legend of the sport, greatest LW in hockey history, and no amount of internet blubbering can change that.

Killed the Hawks for decade plus. Hawks lost other players to WHA too and roster was decimated. Then when other owners like Detroit paid top dollar for loaded rosters WIrtz would pay just enough for a team that could eke into the playoffs.

Luckily for him Denis Savard came along and helped resurrect the franchise.

That's a fair point.

I actually had a discussion with a cab driver in Chicago about that when I was in town to see the Hawks play the Jets.

He was upset that Bobby left the Hawks.

"Times of tragedy"?

An 84 year old man quietly passing away is not a tragedy. Nor does pointing out the obvious flaws in his character make one a "piece of ****"
It is a tragedy for those who loved him. And if you don't understand that, you've either never loved enough or you're lucky enough that you haven't yet lost a parent.

Anyway, troubled man off the ice, but cannot be denied that he was an amazing hockey player on it. May his family find peace.

And how petty Bill Wirtz was when we got Bobby Hull back after the WHA folded, they did not protect him in the expansion draft because Wirtz did not want him around. Think they protected the likes of JP Bordeleau over Bobby Hull.

Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson, Kent Nilsson, Willy Lindström and Dan Labraaten, all former teammates to Hull, have today expressed their condolences and shared stories about Bobby’s uncomplicated nature, how he took new players under his wings. He was a father figure for Ulf who lost his father at young age. Labraaten said he developed his wrist shot thru Bobby who he think would match very well with composite sticks, he used the flex to perfection already back then.
Willy and Kent were impressed by his natural raw strenght and stellar skating. Stickhandling was his ”weak” part.
Hedberg shared memories of how easy they found chemistry with Bobby and mixed best of euro and trans atlantic hockey. -”passing in other directions than forward was not usual in NA but we kept puck between us and passed in all directions, weaved and often switched positions which confused opponents. Bobby told the coach to not split them up. Anders laughs at memory in first practice, both wanted to play left wing: -” Kid you play at other side, I play here on left”. Was no discussion.

Today when a honored member of a hockey team has his number retired it is full blown extravaganza. That was not the case in 1983 when the Blackhawks hoisted #9 to the rafters at Chicago Stadium.

This video only exists because somebody at WSBK-TV Boston recorded the raw video coming from Chicago and saved it. Obviously nobody in Chicago saw it and viewers in Boston only saw what is in part 2 when announcers Fred Cusick and John Pierson went live.

This is simply fascinating to watch.

Now that he's gone, I'm sure he will leave a complicated legacy to some.
Always an entertainer, and a big part of many people's childhood.
Zero issues with his play on the ice, one of the greats for sure.
I guess it was just his time to go.
