Man is this guy ever irritating, I've always found I'm annoying since he started being on the broadcast and more plugged in with he team but this year he's on another level. listening to his interviews with mac t or dallas eakins all he does is set them up with soft questions, like yesterday he asked dallas if he thinks the fans are being unfair by blaming him for the past few years, its not even about the past few years this year is by far the worst out of them, no progression, other then hall all players have been regressing out of our top draft picks. i get he works for the team but he has no spine he is a pure puppet for management and it makes me want to puke and also him and jack miceals are the worst play by play team, going from rod phillips to those two is like going from mercedes benz to a pontiac sunfire:help:

I think what this says is you don't like Bob, that's fine, he does leave something to be desired, but he's a solid professional and He's an employee of the team, so yeah I would expect him to toss the GM and HC a few more soft balls then most might.

Fair enough that you don't like Jack and Bob, I actually enjoy them as a team, given the junk they've had to call over the past few years, they do their utmost to make the broadcasts entertaining, which is not easy with bad teams.

You would have loved rishaug compare Schultz to subban today on 1260...and then his contract recommendations. Edmonton media is so disjointed from reality it seems

the ones that dont work from the team know when they say something mongish that the masses will bombard their twitter and click their links. say something everyone agrees with and no one pays attention. Go on oilers radio and say Ryan Smyth should get a 3 year $5M deal and watch the hits and calls and tweets spread your name.

He recommended to do a bridge deal. He was against giving him a long term contract based on potential and wants to see him turn into a top pairing guy before he is paid like one. I'm not sure why this is a bad thing?

he's just out of touch with reality with some of his comments i remember one of his conversations with craig button where he's like oh but the oilers will probably win 15/20 to the end the season and be past calgary, it seems like button just wanted him to shut up

He only used ppg as a basis for the contract. Saying Schultz had a higher ppg than subban at the same point in their careers. He didn't look at anything else. Subban is a FAR better and more physical dman than Schultz is. And he wanted to pay him more than subbans bridge. That's my concern

So a Radio guy who works for the team had a positive out look on the team he works for? Shocking, someone stop the presses, or restart them and stop them if need be.

Uh oh....Bob's going to come out of the booooothh....

If you expect an oilers employee to do anything other than lob up softballs for them to knock out of the park, you're going to be disappointed. It's his job.

Stauffer, from what I've heard while listening to the oilers radio during games, isn't all that afraid to call players out. This is only during games though. And it isn't all that frequent. And lately, I've noticed he had actually been quite positive about yakupov. Might be mistaken however

I enjoy his show, I listen to the podcast pretty much every day when I get home - I know what you mean though. He's paid by the Oilers so the reasons as to why are obvious.

I too laughed when he brought up that the past few years "aren't Dallas' fault".
We don't care about the last few years, this season they're worse then they have EVER been. EVER.

I notice he always takes fans concerns and tries to find ways to downplay them through his guests.

For example Craig Simpson was on yesterday and Stauffer alluded to the fact that assistant coaches maybe aren't as important as some people make them out to be. (I assume because of the heat on Smith/Buchy) but Simpson refuted it and stated that assistant coaches are extremely important.

But yeah, I still enjoy the show.

He's an amateur.

Remember this is a hack who went from calling Golden Bears hockey games and writing in the "Sports Scene" paper directly into talk radio.

Because he was buddies with Katz, he got the Oilers gig and the rest is history.

He doesn't know how to properly ask questions to guests because he has never had to....he's fine as a color guy....in fact I think best case scenario would be to leave him as the color guy and have him phone in 10 minutes a day on "Oilers Now" while someone else is the true host.

They're ok and have good banter with each other but man I dont care how bad the Oilers are and how boring the game they are calling is they really shouldnt stop talking about the game and instead start talking about 80's college football trivia while the play is going on.

I won't argue that with you.

Stauffer seems like a nice guy but for a show called Oilers Now and with his connections to the team his guests are pretty sad. Instead of interviewing guys on the team he has guys like Tyler Dellow (from MC79 hockey if you don't know!) and random guys from other teams.

Personally I like the Jason Strudwick show that guy is funny.

I really only listen to him for the guests and the fact that he's connected. What bugs me is someone will text or call in and offer a non-Pollyanna point of view and most of the time he will just say "well, that's your opinion" or won't even reply to it. Irks me so much.

I was always kinda partial to the Sunfire

what cracks me up is watching him forage thru every advanced stat to try and justify this mess.
Its great to see the rest of the mainstream media call out this organization for ineptitude.

Man this is pretty rough. I'm sure at one time he was a hack but so is everyone when they start out. I wonder where Rod started out? Anyways, was his degree in something related to his broadcasting?

I'm not sure about the Katz thing but it's not like he went from delivering pizza's to Oilers now cold turkey. He was with 1260 for quite a while too. You obviously don't like him but he deserves a little credit.

If it makes anyone feel better he is better then the clowns they have down here in Calgary. I prefer to listen to Oilers now on the radio with heavy static as opposed to tuning into the Fan960.

What exactly would make one a professional when it comes to sports talk radio? He gets paid to to talk Oilers, that makes him a professional right there, and he's been doing it for well over 10 years. I don't love the guy, but he is plugged in, and due to being an employee of the team, he isn't about $hit where he eats. He was working well before Katz showed up. Some people just love to hate.

I don't mind him as a colour guy but I don't like him on the daytime show. He is so full of himself that it pains me to listen to him.
