I'm not sure about the Katz thing but it's not like he went from delivering pizza's to sports radio cold turkey. He was with 1260 for quite a while too. You obviously don't like him but he deserves a little credit.

If it makes anyone feel better he is better then the clowns they have down here in Calgary. I prefer to listen to Oilers now on the radio with heavy static as opposed to tuning into the Fan960.

no doubt man, i cant listen when i hear this guy talking to me about hockey, video games maybe, Larping for sure, but hockey? like actual hockey? no

Strudwick is the best radio guy in the city....and he went from playing in Sweden to hosting a night show in a matter of 2 years.

Stauffer has been on Edmonton radio for 10 years and still doesn't know how to ask a question....also, the mouth breathing into the mic....first thing they teach you in broadcasting business and he hasn't figured it ot.
 
Stauffer is probably smart enough to know that the Oilers are a loser organization with a bunch of clueless, underqualified cronies running the show but he gets paid to suck up to them and push their propaganda. We can't really expect him to do anything else.

In before Stauffer shows up.

did he actually ask it that way? sheesh. how about: 'what do you make of fans blaming the coaching for this year's lack of progress and, in some areas, regression?'
Or simply: 'why has the team regressed?'

is he a sports broadcast medium reporter or an Oilers promotions rep, a la, what Dave Jameson was for the Esks?

answer: the latter, so what should we expect? talk it with a grain of salt. he's show is an Oilers infomercial.

you don't think Stauffer knows the reality of the situation and what his job is? give me a break.

and what sort of answers are you expecting from media anyhow? "hey you suck" yeah i know we do. "fix it bro. im mad." we're trying. it takes a while. "no bro, say you suck so my weird fantasy escapist life that revolves around a sports team is validated and i feel righteous as hell."

and Rod Phillips his final 5 years was just an old grandpa spewing out the wrong names half the time. "GLENCURTIS CROSSES THE BLUELINE" who the F is Glencurtis? oh, Curtis Glencross. let's turn everyones name into weird truncations like Jeberle, Jefftry and Deakins.

you should head down to Wisconsin and listen to the pathetic radio crap they have here that supports the packers and brewers. it's TRASH compared to what you have up there. youre spoiled and pooping a diaper when youre potty trained.
 
Local Media belong in 3 categories:

Honest professionals not afraid of making enemies:
Tychkowski, Van Diest, MacKinnon, Gregor, Neilsen.

Ass kissers:
Stauffer, Matheson

Bloggers: Willis and the like.

Jonesy can be truthful at times but is a washed up hack at this point.
 
Not a fan of his show but don't blame him for the softball questions. If any of us used a public forum to blast our employer, it would likely be our last day on the job.
 
i think there is adifference between the bottle depot and the oilers radio broadcasts
 
Bob was great on 1260. Because he has to tow the company line at work, he is a shadow of his former self.

I don't listen to Oilers now much anymore....leave it on 1260. Rather than complain about a particular radio host..I turn the channel.

I don't mind Stauffer and I understand why he has to be somewhat of an 'asskisser'... if i were in his shoes, I'd do the same.

I'm sure if Bob disagreed with how you approach your job, he wouldn't resort to acting like a kid on an internet forum to express his opinion but that's just some food for thought
 
Ratings do matter. If he was always the hard ass journalist and speaker of truth, what would happen to ratings? For instance, how long would an in-between-the-benches Ferraro radio show last before nobody had the will to listen to it? Heck, people hardly have the will to deal with the depressing Oilers.

This, why people bother listening to his propaganda is beyond me. If you want reasonably fair opinions listen to 960 or 1260; if you want to be spoonfed Oiler doctrine, listen to Stauffer. You do have a choice.
 
I don't mind Bob for the most part but his pro Oilers agenda is a little far fetched. Just say they suck, god its like anybody on Ched cannot say that, all this "well they are not meeting expectations", "i expected them to do better".

Just come out and say it, they suck. I would gain lots of respect for any guy that just flat out said that.
 
My issue with the Oilers Now show/host is how full of himself he has become.

He constantly gloats about what he gets right, years after the fact. I swear I could hear Craig Simpson rolling his eyes from Toronto when Bob tells him so.

He has alluded to "well you never know WHO might be in management" - which I could hardly believe, as he was making some bizarre allusion to himself being in Oilers management. No he was not talking about anyone else, for a brief second he thought he would be working his way up the food chain all the way.

The easy picking questions don't bother me - he is an employee of the team.

The self-entitlement and ego has certainly taken hold IMO.

I would most certainly swap Matheson and Gregor there.
