Benning just said that he is not looking for a bridge deal for Horvat and wants to sign him long term.

7 years at 5.5 is my offer.

What is fair?, the guy has basically been everything for the canucks since he was drafted, easily our best player on most nights, huge potential.

I'm gonna..
I'd give him the Kesler contract. 6 years at 5 mil AAV with some bonuses at the front of it. Then after 6 years if he's deserving of more, we can work it out. I don't think he'll accept 7/8 years unless it's something like 7 mil, which is not something I'd want to pay for Horvat right now.

Lot of money for a 3C.... especially a defensive specialist :sarcasm:

I'd try to lock him up for 8 years at 5 mill
Then He is a 29 year old UFA and can sign another big buck deal

You'd be paying a lot for potential just to give him 5. Bridge deal is the smart thing to do.

We're not paying for potential. We're paying for now + the future, as he's pretty much our best forward.. Kid is the real deal and anybody who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Constant threat out there.

I would love the Canucks to do an 8 year deal with him.

Buying out his entire 20's would be ideal, which includes 4 years of UFA.

His production to date, isn't up to par with the forwards who landed $6 million post ELC, however, I would guess that advanced stats would show that his offensive production would be similar given how limited his offensive zone starts are compared to that of Barkov, Monahan, McKinnon, etc. Plus, his line mates have been Baertschi, Burrows, Dorsett this season. Not exactly matching a Duchene, Landeskog, Johnny Hockey, Bennett, Jagr, Hubedeau (only guessing who the others actually play with).

You pay a bit more to get those extra UFA years. You take the hit in the next couple of years, but hope that the average cap hit works out in your favour in years 5-8.

If we are talking an 8 year deal, something in the $5.25 - $5.75 per season seems fair.

I would guess the Horvat camp would prefer to play out the season and hope he can hit the 50 point range. He put up 40 last season.

Back the truck up. Kids legit. Offer him term, hope you can keep the AAV down to 6ish.

My offer today would be a bridge deal. But know Bo he'd make me eat it by posting another solid 2 seasons and be in the 6.5-7 asking range after.
I'd go 5 years 25 million. Leaves room at the end of the contract to get one while he's under 30 as another big pay day and keeps Vancouver some what competitive in cap allocation. Been a typical 35 million upfront team, this would bridge that through the final season of the Sedins

You dont say?

He's been on pace for 50 points since the latter half of last season, continuing that pace this season as well. It's clear he's improved every year and will more than likely hit over 50 points this year if healthy.
