Blues Trade Proposals Part X

Lord Stanley

You can't just trade for Stanley... Oh wait. Yes you can. I read this someplace. We just need to overpay for Miller and Callahan and then we get Stanley guaranteed. :sarcasm:

Quick! Someone tell Armstrong!

I have a feeling either us or the Hawks are getting Legwand or Kesler. Kesler apparently want to relocate to the U.S. if he is traded. Hopefully we get Kesler, but if not I'd take Legwand and hope for Statsny if the off season.

This Kesler talk is strange. Multiple sources seem to be saying he has requested a trade, and that he told US teammates this after the Olympics... but his agent is denying it while Gillis isn't commenting? Hmm.

Could be a very interesting situation. He is being vastly overvalued on the trade boards, but that is to be expected. He isn't going to get the Mike Richards type return that some are expecting for several reasons.

I wonder how far off Berglund and Stewart would be.

The fact that Kesler is now a reasonable option makes this trade deadline extremely exciting.

We could be in on Miller, Callahan, Kesler, and Legwand. And then there is the St. Louis situation. Not sure if I'm missing any others, but we finally might have a trade deadline live up to the hype.

If we can get Kesler or Miller, I would be really excited. Even though we can do both, I don't even want to imagine what my emotions would be.

If they come cheap. If not...It's hard to think about what players would be moving.

I don't think Berglund + Stewart is realistic. I would think they would want a prospect and or a pick. I would do Rattie + Stewart + pick swap where we trade down. I'm not sure as far as the picks are concerned to be honest. I could see the Nucks wanting Berglund instead of Stewart, I'd be fine with it, although my preference would be to keep Berglund.

Keep in mind, if the rumor is true, Chicago can and probably will put together a pretty good package for Kesler. If acquired, Kesler would play with Kane (Olympic linemates) and Chicago would easily be cup favorites. Army can't let this happen.

Well we basically have 2 late 1sts. Miller will use one of those and a prospect or 2. Kesler is probably a pick, 2 of Berglund/Stewart/Paajarvi/Cole and maybe a prospect added in.

Yo, P9 this is for you bro.

When Bob McKenzie brought up that the Blues may be willing to trade Ty Rattie in a Ryan Miller expanded trade, he also brought up Mikhail Grigorenko as a player who could be involved.

Seriously, if that happens, you get one hell of a pat on the back.

Schwartz-Grigorenko-Tarasenko would be plain filthy in a few years.

I really don't want to give up Rattie, but we are bare bones dry at center and the thought of Grigorenko and Tarasenko is tempting.

Rumor on Sens board of Stewart for Methot at the deadline. Rumor comes from a poster on hockeybuzz who evidently had the inside track on B.Murray being hired. For what it's worth.

Hey guys, Sens fan coming in peace.......This rumor came from someone that called the Murray signing and term before anyone and seems to have solid sources in the Ottawa organization. Having said this, he actually stated that Methot might be traded at the deadline and that Murray is going hard after Stewart. So, Stewart could still be coming to Ottawa but not for Methot......Hope this clears things up

Makes more sense. I don't know what we would ask for from Ottawa though. It's not like we're going to get Spezza or Z.

Z-bad is definitely out of the question but I would be open to trading Spezza. Not sure that our management feels the same way but we are pretty good down the middle for years to come with Turris, Z-bad, Pageau, Smith and Lazar in the very near future. However, Stewart wouldn't get you Spezza.

Right so I'm not sure what the target is.

I don't really see a deal that makes sense with Ottawa.

My guess is it would be for Lazar or another Center prospect. From an organization stand point that would make sense value wise, I don't want to get into it.

This entire Miller situation is so bizarre.

Armstrong was on record today really putting his trust into Halak. And it doesn't sound like the standard B.S. Seems like he sincerely meant it. Here's the exact quote:

The Blues have once again reaffirmed their faith in Halak, offering unconditional support following his depressing Olympics experience for Slovakia. Armstrong knows that Halak makes fans nervous. But the GM is confident.

“St. Louis historically has been a graveyard for goaltenders,” Armstrong said. “I’m not being critical of the fans, but it doesn’t seem like they’ve ever been happy with who’s in the net. Jaro doesn’t deserve to have the past put on him."

Because of injuries, “Jaro has been our starting goaltender for exactly two playoff games,” Armstrong said. “He hasn’t failed. He’s going to have the opportunity to show what he’s capable of. That’s how it is in sports. Until you win, you can’t win.”

When he speaks you'd think we would have no interest at all in Miller. Yet there is still so much smoke regarding the Blues and Miller. With all the speculation and rumors there has to be something going on there, especially when guys like McKenzie are hinting at it.

I will give Armstrong credit, he keeps his hand close and doesn't let you know what he's doing. So I don't know what to expect at the deadline.

I've said it from the beginning: I would be fine with Halak/Elliott going into the playoffs as long as we make the necessary improvements up front.

Namely scoring and grit.

When I read the quote, I thought it sounded like the perfect thing to say, if it goes either way.

It isn't Bizarre at all. He is backing his goalie. I would bet he has been called/or called on Miller. I also bet he didn't like what he heard and now he is letting everyone know NOT to expect a goalie trade - using the media to deliver a Not changing the goalie so live with it message.

I don't think, based on Armstrong's past that he would say one thing and do another. Jaro has been good for the team this year. We will see what he can do.

He does play things close to the chest so we will see if we are active at the deadline. It is interesting that Stewart was mentioned in the article by the author.

You basically summed up why I think it was bizarre, the fact that he usually doesn't go against his word, but there's too much Miller speculation for him to truly be that comfortable with Miller.

All Miklasz said about Stewart was the Blues need more out of him, which everyone already knew so that's not saying much.

I think there is a lot of smoke being created by the media OUTSIDE of St. Louis. Analysts (don't call them insiders because they truly don't have any real inside knowledge unless a GM is using them to get word out about something) need something to talk about and really the only question in St. Louis is in net. Outside of the top Blues mgt, no one has any idea of how they would feel about Halak. And they wouldn't let anyone know they were interested in Miller. So for him to state they are happy with Halak, man, that nails it for me.

It is also why the market is so soft for Miller. Who needs him? Minn is going all in this year??? don't buy that. Washington - don't buy that either.

As for Miklasz, I know, but it makes me wonder if we are going to make a trade if Stewart would be going the other way. We would have to make room in our top 6 for an upgrade of any kind - so Stewie would likely be gone, IMO.
