I gotta say no one is harder on this kid than I am but that was the best game I’ve seen Lettieri play at this level. Just made a few smart plays went to the net hard won some puck battles. He’s been much better on this call up. Will be interested to see what he does to improve over the summer. I think he’s terrible but I can’t ignore he played a solid game last night.

Yeah, I think we have to temper expectations with Strome. He can carve out a role as a decent bottom 6 guy but I'm not going to get sucked into the goal and point totals when he's shooting at a ridiculous rate (22% with NYR) and he's getting a ton of ice time due to the roster being depleted. Just looking at games in March, he has 7 goals and 3 assists for 10 points in 14 games. In those games, only twice has he gotten less than 16 minutes of ice time and the majority of his ice time falling between 17 and 20 minutes.

Not knocking him but I think it's more easy to chalk up the success to that over him suddenly figuring it all out.

What Strome is showing is he can play up in the lineup when needed. Fast could do that in his prime, but I think everyone knows his real value is as a bottom 6 forward.

He's got a little bit of upside, but yeah, I agree... 30-35 points is what we should realistically expect from him next season. I like his game though... he's a battler

I agree. Just seems he has more fire in his belly and more decisive, more compete.

I just watched the third period again. How on earth does Pionk get credited with an assist on the ENG lol.

Fast never showed it consistently. He'd have a decent game then go back to sucking up all the offense on whatever line he was on. Fast is the perfect 4th liner who can play 3rd line when needed. He'd never be in the top 9 on a true cup contender.

Outplayed, but won. Mehhh, always thought Russians loved some tankin', but Buchnevich and Georgiev clearly think otherwise.

Development of some players is clearly a good sign though and may eventually be more valuable than drafting 3rd of 4th overall instead of 6th or 7th.

Tanks, not tanking. Google Battle of Kursk. ;)

Strome excites me for next year. Why? He doesn't score the fancy and pretty goals. There are no sizzling one-timers from the right circle. No toe dragging goalies out of their skates. He bangs home rebounds, he usually doesn't miss on his opportunities. He scores solid ones. He doesn't try to punch above his talent weight. He doesn't make a lot of unforced errors, and there doesn't seem to be much bad habits in his game.

Because of his name and draft pedigree there's a tendency to believe that maybe he's finally "found" it. I doubt it.
I do not think that any one here has been viewing him positively for the factors that you name. Most see him as a wise trade that Gorton made when he traded reclamation project for a project. No one cares where he was drafted or what his last name is.

Aren't Stome's underlying numbers kinda shaky (or at least were)? Stuff like that is why I'd worry about him being relied on as a solid top sixer going forward but yeah 29 points in 58 games with the Rangers ain't bad.

Yeah, he's a useful player but let's all keep our pants on here. Because of his name and draft pedigree there's a tendency to believe that maybe he's finally "found" it. I doubt it.

Two things: Strome showed the style of game that is not only about production, and his production is coming from dirty goals area that’s part of his style.

Taking it further I’m not putting him or Namestnikov in the future top6 but until Andersson and Howden show that their game is better (not WILL be better) I’d keep them around. At this point the Rangers have KZB and Chytil penciled in for top6. Kravtsov is coming over but he’s not likely to be counted on as top6 until the latter part of the season. Who’s taking the other two spots and if Kreider is traded without replacement then it’s 3 top6 spots. There should be a bit more clarity after the lottery but still it looks like forwards corp will be stretched. Good reason to continue to keep Strome and Namestnikov and see if there’s more to their game.

Please don't stealth edit my posts in the future. If you didn't edit out the first sentence of my post you'd know that I basically agree with you. But there's people here slapping a "C" on the guy's jersey already. That's ridiculous.

Logic and the advanced stats say he's been a bit fortunate with puck luck here. Nice little streak but he is who he is.

Thanks for the future courtesies.

Stealth out?

I have seen exactly one post for Strome for C. One. That is not people. That is a person. And not representative of what the feeling on this board is.

Advanced stats can be very misleading. They are an indicator, but not to be the sole decision maker. Strome has been on a good streak. NO ONE expected this. BUT Quinn has shown that he can get the best out of players. Strome was in fact the 5thOA pick at one point. This is not to say that anyone expects him to be a top line player, but a mid-6 tweener? Why not? And again, I believe that a young vet with his specific experience can be an asset to the team as far as future first rounders that will be coming in.

Again, if you hadn't deleted the first sentence of my post for some strange reason you'd see I basically agree with you. Still don't really understand why you did that. I generally don't quote other posters and remove sentences, especially when the post was only a few sentences long. To each his own.

I did not delete the first sentence for a fiendish reason. I read your post, took my understanding of it, and quoted what I thought was relevant. That's it. If I misunderstood, then so be it. There was no malicious intent. Certainly not "stealth out", a term I admit I know nothing of.

No worries. Again, I think he's a good player. I just don't think he's really as good as he seems at the moment. Doesn't mean I don't want him on the team though.
