I don’t blame this on the Rangers. They truly are a bad team. It’s just that the bottom of the league is just as bad. The Devils are a joke. The Kings — I am happy they suck and they will be bad for so, so long. **** them. They will be like the Oilers with McDavid.

The key thing is that they will have another high pick this year, plus a real shot at Lafreniere in 2020.

Gotta get rid of the dead-weight contracts. Trade Kreider. Name Henrik the No. 2 and force him out.

I’m holding out hope for the lottery but this season in rebuilding terms looks like a success no matter how low or high they pick in the top 10.
Definitely trade Kreider at the draft for a nice haul. He lopse around a lot. I agree with making Hank #2.

Might as well trade Smith and Shattenkirk for draft picks as well.

I don't hate him as a prospect but as a current NHL player, he makes me wanna eat a cactus.

Which I guess is fine the way we're going this year.
He was absolutely dreadful for about 35 games. I don’t disagree there. He hit a massive wall after a promising start, then the injury. But he’s low key started to pick it up (5pts in his last 10 games). I’ve actually started to notice him making nice plays with puck, he made several nice “pull up and pass” plays entering the zone tonight in particular. Those seem to be his bread and butter, and he was getting a LOT of those blocked/deflected earlier on because he was a second too late/early.

I think expecting him to be bad moving forward because his underlying metrics are bad in his 20 year old season on a dogshit team is projecting, a lot.

But that’s what we made our bet for. I’m 2/2 in avatar bets so just remember that. :D

I would think that some teams would love to have Kreider.
for sure. I still wanna keep him but if Gorton feels he's not part of the future here (extending him) then trade him at the draft not at the trade deadline. Could be a difference of 10-15 slots in the draft.

Aren't Stome's underlying numbers kinda shaky (or at least were)? Stuff like that is why I'd worry about him being relied on as a solid top sixer going forward but yeah 29 points in 58 games with the Rangers ain't bad.

Yeah, he's a useful player but let's all keep our pants on here. Because of his name and draft pedigree there's a tendency to believe that maybe he's finally "found" it. I doubt it.

Not to disagree with the sentiment, but to expect, in his 21 y/o season on an equally shitty team, to score at least 40 points is projecting a lot, too lol

I mean he’s pacing for just under 30 despite having a stretch of like two points in 30 games

I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest he’ll go from about 28 points in 82 games to 40 in 82

You say 'despite having a stretch of 2 points in 30 games like that's not HALF the games he's played in
and the other half he’s got 17 points in 30

i’m not throwing out the bad stretch, my point is that despite such a horrible stretch his overall point production is relatively decent for a 20 year old on a bad team

i just don’t think saying that he won’t hit a wall that big in his second season is as big of a stretch as saying he just flat out sucks and will continue to suck

I really wasn't aiming for a debate, I like the optimism!

(But I'll just say that it's as easy to mention a "sophomore slump" as it is to talk about a "rookie wall")

Now that was a pretty good game by the Rangers!!! Really glad to be posting some praise here! They are miles away from good but that effort last night was on the right track!

Mika is really impressive. Love what that guy’s brought to the team this year. Buch played a great game. I loved what Joe said about him realizing he needs to work much harder and how Buch has committed to that. What a great learning moment Buch must have had this year. Ryan Strome is a keeper in my mind. He’s been one of the most consistent forwards and is consistently in the mix each shift he’s out there. He seems to slot in nicely as a second line guy( in the short term) and a depth forward in the future.

Regarding Kreider, I’m interested in trading him but only for a great return. Like a package deal moving up into the top 3 in the draft. Anything less than that and I’d hold on to him.

Smith was a total disaster. He can’t defend. That Blues goal was completely his fault. He took the puck to his backhand and had it stolen. That’s absolutely a Pee Wee level mistake. Every coach who knows anything tells players to keep the puck on your forehand! No wonder why Kreider went to the boards expecting a rim around play—99% of defensemen in the league would have done that. I think Smith has very few traits as a player that set him apart( toughness being one) but these really bad mistakes cloud over all he does well.

You mean without a McDavid right? I guess they are also unfortunate of the back issues Vilardi is having. Hasn't kupari looked decent for where he was picked?
How is this season a success in rebuilding terms? Just curious. I mean obviously if we net a top 3 lottery and somehow the Jets suck it, Tampa wins the cup and dallas goes three rounds then its a huge step forward.

No I meant what I wrote. The Oilers with McDavid have stunk in three of his four years. The Kings gave so much money tied into slow, wrinkly vets that even a Kakko or Hughes won’t save them for a long time.

My wishes center on Lafreniere in 2020. That rumor LeBrun started that the Rangers are going to be “all in” this coming offseason got me heated. So far, the rebuild is going well. By the end of the 2019 draft, they should be top-five, maybe even first overall in prospect pools.

Outplayed, but won. Mehhh, always thought Russians loved some tankin', but Buchnevich and Georgiev clearly think otherwise.

Development of some players is clearly a good sign though and may eventually be more valuable than drafting 3rd of 4th overall instead of 6th or 7th.
