Half-Assed GDT: Blues @ Kraken FDSNMW 9PM

It really feels like somehow, someway, the Blues will both miss the playoffs, and secure the 16th overall pick.

It seemed impossible they would make the playoffs heading into the 4 nations. It seemed impossible they could miss the playoffs after winning 12 games in a row.

I’d like to see them get in the playoffs but the Blues fan in me sees it going the other way
We have come so far, why NOT us?

Cant disagree with anything people are saying in here but Im not going to doom yet. I think being at home where they have been really good for a long time now will be beneficial. They also have an extra day off so they can get home and reset prior.

With their playoff lives on the line I would hope they show up. The Utah Coyotes havent been as much of a problem as in the past. Either way, Im sure they will make it as hard as possible.

they lost this game in the first period. came out and played a awful period.

this team needs to stop being so uptight and scared in tense spots. last minute of games they always collapse because they have massive brain farts and try to do too much instead of keeping it simple.

This is the exact reason our young guys need the experience of these games. So that they aren't so uptight in them.

thing to keep in mind is utah is going to be coming in on the second of a B2B. they play in trashville on monday.

it will make them beating the blues or the way this season is going, them tying the game in the last minute to cost us a playoff spot even more pathetic.

Looking at it from Cal's perspective - they have to get 5 out of 6 points IF the Blues dont get a point against Utah. They have to win all 3 if the Blues manage to get one point and need 3 regulation wins if the Blues win in OT. With all the 3-point games, thats tough.

They also have to go into LA and LA is the best home team in the league, resting players or not will be motivated to keep that going. SJ being the worst team in the league is also one of those games where weird schit can happen at the end of the season.

Id rather be the Blues.

Tall order for this team.
They've won 10 in a row at home. They'll be on two days of rest and Utah will be on the 2nd of a back-to-back with travel.

They SHOULD win. If not and they miss, they would fully deserve to.

People are really down on a team that just came off a historic run and has gone 18-4-2 in their last 24. They dropped a few nail-biters on the road..

Welcome to the concerned club. I won't chastise you for the entertainment of the masses.

I am concerned but I am not going full Chicken Little like you've been since the Winnipeg game. Maybe because my expectations since the beginning is that playoffs would be nice, I want to see playoff hockey. However, this is team still very much in transition. Snuggerud, Bolduc, Dvorsky, all these kids have tons of potential but its going to take time.

I will say that this team looks like it has lost all confidence that it has built since the Four Nations. I don't know if the Holloway injury was the catalyst but the trajectory is alarming. The Winnipeg game I was fine with, the Oilers game sucked but I get it. This one tonight was a game we should have won. The most alarming thing is that the Kraken were not good tonight, at all, but the Blues were somehow worse. The Blues team from 3 weeks ago puts 10 spot on the Kraken tonight.

I still think we make the playoffs, just because I don't see the Flames winning out. If we miss it would suck but I would get over pretty quickly. The next few years are going to have a lot of ups and downs as we inject more youth into the lineup. It's going to be important to keep a calm head and most of all stay patient.

That's what happens when you only have 1 scoring line. That's what Holloway brought to our team and without him it's far to easy to shut down our offense.

I actually agree, depth scoring is a problem. The young players I named are not yet reliable in that role. I still believe Schenn was being lifted by Kyrou/Holloway's chemistry. Lastly, I don't agree with Buch being stapled to Thomas wing. They play too similar a game for my liking. The hope is that Snuggerud can become the shooter that Thomas desperately needs on his line. I feel like his other winger needs to to be a forechecking, puck hounding menace. Neighbours? Maybe Holloway if they decide to break him and Kyrou up. Again, I feel like we have to pieces to build that depth but it is going to take patience to let them get here and get up to speed.

Correct. Which is why if the Blues miss they deserve to miss. But I find that outcome unlikely due to the reasons that you mentioned. The Blues own every tie breaker over Calgary currently.

I know others have mentioned it in this thread and I mentioned it in another thread, but the Flames game in LA could still have massive implications for the Kings for home ice. They play at Edmonton Monday and then Seattle on Tuesday. If they drop those 2 AND Edmonton at least goes to OT in Winnipeg, their game against the Flames matters.

Save your long rebuttal

You trashed me for saying essentially what you are now saying. The team is out of gas. I saw it two games ago. Now you are seeing it.

Dismissed

I’ve come to the conclusion that Blues fans are comprised by Chicken Littles.

I'm glad the Blues lost the last couple of games, no team was ever going to win 16 straight to end the season and then go into the playoffs and win another 16. Calgary is not going to win 3 in a row and the Blues will likely beat Utah. For the first round matchup Im not exactly sure who the Blues will match better against, but if they survive round one I think they have a clear path to the Finals.
