Oh yeah, we upgraded on the dot and in shootouts, didn't we?

Honestly, we just became the best faceoff team in the league. O'Reilly 3 years ago had a 56% faceoff percentage. That was 8th in the league. 2 years ago he had a 58%, good for 5th. Last year, he had a 60%, best in the league. Bozak also has been top 10 2 of the last 3 years.

EDIT TO ADD: Also, I don't think I'm giving O'Reilly enough credit for his faceoff numbers and how bonkers they were this year. He took over 200 more faceoffs last year then the next highest guy. He was dominant, and used for faceoffs constantly by Buffalo.

We need to start looking at deals for Steen. If we don't get rid of him within 2 years, we will be forced to protect him and expose one of our young defensemen to the expansion draft.
I think we can just wait to deal him next Summer. I think he will have a solid year, and then he'll only have 2 years left so his contract will be moveable. And by that point the youth will be able to replace him.

And with Bouwmeester off the books in a year, and Gunnarsson probably getting traded at some point... we're set up very nicely. Getting Berglund off the books was pretty big.

Something to ponder....

Adding ROR and improving the team will go a long way when it comes time to extending Schenn and Pietrangelo. Huge day today was for the future of the Blues
Should instill some faith in Schenn after his comments at the TDL.

We didn't get Tavares but Armstrong has absolutely made this team better going into next season. He knew the Blues would be clown pounded. So he made a trade that turned into Bokk and Foley. Then brings in 3 top 9 players in the offseason

Yes but we replaced Berglunds contract with 4 years of Perron. I have a suspicion that many posters will find that contract just as odious as Berglunds in about a year .

No doubt about it. Love Bokk and Foley too.

Yep, agree. I’m not a huge Perron fan. I was actually glad when he was taken by LV. would have rather it been a 3 yr deal. Maybe he’ll get taken by Seattle. But, he will actually help this team this year.....in the regular season.

Eh, you're probably getting 15 more points out of Perron than you do Berglund, so I'd say he's more worth it.

But again, in 2 years you have the expansion draft and once he only has a couple years left on his deal, that won't be hard to move either.

If Perron is our worst contract, I'd say we are in an extremely good spot

I’d start off the year with these lines

Steen-O’Reilly-Tarasenko
Schwartz-Schenn-Perron
Fabbri-Thomas-Bozak
Jaskin-Barbashev-Soshnikov
Sundqvist, Sanford

Edmundson-Pietrangelo
Dunn-Parayko
Bouwmeester-Schmaltz
Bortuzzo

Gotta think Gunnar gets dealt, or we run 13f-8d

Eventually Fabbri and Thomas would move into the top 6 and we run a Steen-Bozak-Perron 3rd line.

Blues fans need to bitch about something, amirite?

But seriously, we have no idea what a really bad contract is. The cap went up this off-season roughly what we are paying Perron.

Meanwhile, all the Blackhawks have done is sign Kunitz to a 1 year deal...man, that sounds like the Blues of 7 years ago with Arnott and Langebrunner.

Don't forget that there is another expansion draft coming up soon. Perron may be shipped out again if he doesn't produce lol.

I'd switch Steen and Fabbri (I want the defensive stability of Steen with Bozak and the youngen) but Christ I love that forward group so much. Even that 4th line is pretty sexy imo.

They have three cups to show for it. It worked out, but they are going to hurt for a long time before it gets better. They have two guys at 12.5 mil a year cap hit signed several years ago and the top UFA in the league just signed for 11 mil a year.

What if we just went full blast with four scoring lines?

By the end of the year:

Schwartz-Schenn-Kyrou
Fabbri-O'Reilly-Tarasenko
Steen-Thomas/Bozak-Perron
Barbashev-Thomas/Bozak-Soshnikov

You got the defense exactly right.

Crazy depth.

I'd say I'd want Sosh and Perron to be switched so the 3rd and 4th lines are a bit more evened out, but I also remember Sosh and Barbie having some pretty decent chemistry for a few games last year sooooo *shrug*

Ha, funny thought.

The area we are now most in danger of running short of players in our forward group is now LW.
