Hard pass on Kovy for me. Guy is a career -116 and was a minus player on some very good stingy devils teams. He would No doubt help the power play but would be an absolute liability even strength.

Next year is going to be a big one for Husso. Personally I think we need to be getting him some NHL exposure. I don’t know if we should count on him as the full time backup, but he definitely should get some time if somebody goes down with an injury.

I think he would be fine taking the Gibson route.

Detroit Red Wings won't give qualifying offer to free agent Martin Frk
Could be a cheap replacement in the bottom 6, plus he is a righty. What do you guys think of signing him if we get rid of sobotka/berglund?

Even if we trade one of Berglund/Sobi; we still have the one that stays, ideally Steen, Thomas, Barbashev, Soshnikov, Jaskin, Thorburn, Blais, Sanford, Thompson, Sundqvist, Foley, Stevens, Kostin and Kyrou fighting it out for spots on the 3rd and 4th line. Plus, all indications are that Brodziak will be re-signed.

I can understand getting 1 or 2 guys to provide some experience for SA, but we're pretty loaded on bottom 6 forwards and I seriously doubt that Frk would be interested in the AHL role.

I don't know. My take is that Thorburn wont be a regular in the lineup. Thompson, Foley, Blais, Stevens, Kostin, and Kyrou will be and should be in the AHL. Then out of the rest Sanford and especially Sundqvist can just #### off, they are sub par NHL tweeners. So that leaves Steen, Thomas, Barbs, Sosh, Jaskin, Brodziak,
So you would have something like:
Steen-Thomas-Frk/Barbashev
Soshnikov-Brodziak-Jaskin/Barbashev/Frk
Of course that's if both Berglund and Sobotka are shipped off (fingers crossed).
I like that bottom 6.
Overall, I just think that Frk would be an upgrade relative to the bottom 6 option we have on the wing.

1- I highly doubt that we can move both of Berglund/Sobotka.
And personally, I don't even particularly want to trade Berglund. He's a quality 3rd liner who brings goal scoring ability(is that something we're looking for), size and defensive play.

2- I do not agree that Sanford is sub par. People seem to forget that he had a nearly identical PPG rate as Barbashev 2 years ago. He certainly needed to add some weight/strength and the shoulder injury certainly didn't help him make any kind of case for himself; but IMO he should still be considered as comparable to Barb's as a prospect and should be in the mix for at least a spare forward spot.

I look at the bottom 6 as:
Steen-Thomas-Berglund
Jaskin-Brodziak-Soshnikov
Thorburn

With Sundqvist, Barbashev, Sanford and Blais fighting it out for the last spot.
Barring something completely unforeseen, I don't really see any need to bring in anybody else(and even if we did, you know Upshall would be the first guy we look at).

Not sure why you have Barbashev listed as an extra forward. He is for sure better than Soshnikov and even Jaskin as well.

Barbashev has 25 points in his first 82 games. With any kind of improvement he could be 3rd line quality.

Also no guarantee Brodziak is back. No contract is done so at this point I’m betting he tests the market after the year he just had. Also Soshnikov still has KHL rumors floating around, and the other guys you listed may not even be NHL contributors, we’ll see. The Blues will very likely add a bottom 6 player to the roster as they always do. They don’t just hand spots to guys.

I don't think there is anything really special about Frk. While he produces like a third liner, he is getting some decent time on the PP to be able to do that. The rest of his game isn't close to being polished enough. At this point he is a guy you wouldn't want in your lineup come the playoffs.

But not qualifying him when he is earning League minimum? That doesn't make sense. There must be something else going on there.

I'd be surprised if Barbashev wasn't pencilled in to play on the 4th line. If Soshnikov elects to stay with the Blues, him and Jaskin flanking Barbashev is a nice young 4th line with speed, defense, physicality and skill. If Soshnikov can stay healthy, he's got an underrated amount of skill.

I like Barbashev when he plays in more of a checking role. Not very big but his aggression and intelligence makes him effective. I'd like to see him get more time on the PK. When he's playing on the scoring lines he becomes less effective but hopefully a good developmental coach can help with that.

In regards to Frk, he'd be a nice depth pick up. Our PP was horrendous and we need RS so why not bring in a guy for cheap who's young and fits a positional need. If he's more than 1.5M forget it though.

Where to play Frk though? We need to target someone better to fill out the top-9, and I wouldn't want him on the fourth line.

As for our fourth line, it's difficult to know what's going on at the moment. If Brodziak is willing to take 2 years at $1.25m, we'd be insane to not sign him. If he's looking for $2m+ then it's easier to walk away. In between is the decision.

If Soshnikov is heading to the KHL, then we'd have to expect Barbashev be the LW or C on the fourth line. If he isn't traded...

I'd use him as a 13th forward. See how he fits in camp, run a PP with him and if a guy goes down that we rely on for some offense, you can plug Frk in his spot.

Of course I'm sure a team with less expectation will sign him for a bigger role and that's where he'll play but NHL GM's have done weirder things before.

But at the very least call the guy and see what it'd take. Hes better than Beau Bennett.

I didnt see much from Soshnikov, good skater, not much else. Its tough coming to a new team mid-season, but IMO he did nothing for me when he was getting playing time down the stretch. My guess is he tries to break camp with the Blues, but bolts if he doesnt make the roster.

Looks like Buffalo isn't going to qualify Lehner, could be a decent goalie option if Hutton goes to a different team.
The idea of him and Allen together scares the heck out of me. Both are too wobbly. I would be okay with taking chance on Lehner paired with someone else (Hutton?) if they dealt Allen.
