Post-Game Talk: Blues 5 - Jets 2 Series tied at 3

I think we'll find it hard to win on Sunday if 55 isn't playing.
Time for the Vezina winner to play like he has been all season.
I am not trying to be captain obvious or anything but that disallowed goal was huge.

Before the Blues 4 goal outburst

the JETS only had 3 shots in net almost halfway through the game.

Two key things
1st goal on Helly with interference
Offside goal by the Jets.

Hopefully Game 7 will be different

Go JETS Go
might want to check your stats, we were outshooting them 9-5 in the second before the 2nd goal...

team imploded after the 3rd goal... playing fine until then...
Really??
DeMelo was responsible for the second goal because he is weak along the boards and could not handle Broberg who passed it to the smallest Blue player standing Iin the crease for an easy goal. The Schenn goal was a back breaker but it looked like Pionk’s stick defected the puck just a enough to throw Helle off still a bad goal.
How many times was Conrie screened in the third period … zero times … zero goals.
Jets are not built for the playoffs … too many soft players.
Also the only time the d men get the puck on the net is when there’s nobody there lol.
How many times did they miss the net.

i looked in the jets app

by around 7 minutes of the 2nd period.

Jets had 3 shots in net.

Dont know how to back tracked it now.

i posted also during the live GDT at that moment.

anyways

Jets offense (2nd in the league)
Jets defense (1st in the league)

are both Missing always vs Blues in these road games. That need to change big time in Game 7

Though Blues are tough to beat at home.

Helle might be the perfect example of the "Law of Attraction" wherein negative thoughts result in negative outcomes. If Helle is thinking too much about not allowing a bad goal or not having a bad game then he will ultimately let in a bad goal and have a bad game.

well the app was wrong, jets were outshooting them and playing fine until the 2nd goal the blues scored

Refs have gamed this series... subtle ways to hamstring our enforcers and enable the blues... everyone sees it

Helle just fkn sucked tonight... this game is 100% on him - how does he end up so far back in his net...

But a close second are stan and schenn... they have zero intimidation factor - schenn seems gassed or checked out

Everyone tried - lowry jomo and samberg are all clearly injured but playing well... not elite

To all the clowns that said 3rd pairing doesnt matter - just watch this series again...

Put barron at 1C - guy is better than copp

Kfc-barron-vilardi
Ehlers-lowry-iafallo
Nino-names-perfetti
Tanev-gus-jad

I'd like to see Tanev-Barron-Iafallo as the primary checking line for game 7. A line that dictates the pace. And doesn't break down defensively.

Though Namestnikov is the only + center the Jets have left in this series.

At this point maybe Arniel might be better off having Schenn used strictly for the PK, where he's been good of late, than having a 4th line center if Gus and Toninato are the choices.

Hard to see the Jets 2nd leading scorer (+4 to boot) sitting even if he caused severe heartburn to Jets fans.

I know you've been the biggest advocate for Colin Miller stepping in and frankly the Jets need more from their defense.

can only extract the full game and period now. But Jets weren’t outshooting them based on the app for the 1st two period.

I will check other sources.

I disagree -
The Blues came out with a game plan to screen Helle -
Throw the stats out the window - what they don't tell you is how the other team is executing their offense.
It's pretty obvious that the way to score on Helle is to screen. They did it LY pretty much the exact same way.
And we continue to struggle with keeping that middle ice clear.

Helle's wheels fall off when he isn't seeing the puck - and it impacts the rest of the game for him, and for the team.
That's the problem - our blueline cannot clear the middle ice - none of them. All the Blues need to do is review LY's tape to see how our D and Helle, struggle when things are clogged up down the middle.

So what's the answer? How do we convince our d to do the work needed to win those battles? Or can they? I really don't know. All I do know is that our guys do not look like they are working in over drive - I don't see that extra gear engaged. Is it compete? Do our guys lack that edge you need to fight those battles? And here's the kicker - PO's is all about the battles that you don't necessarily see in the reg season. And that is why you see teams with less talent, battling hard in the PO's - they know it can be the difference maker when you are out skilled. And they know which teams are most susceptible (and are proven susceptible).

So why are we losing the battles?

Side note: Helle is not going to bounce back if we continue to allow teams to screen him. He does not do well when screened and then it snowballs to the point everyone is rattled - and I don't see that changing in the next 2 days. We can continue to call him out when it hits the fan (again) - or we can deal with the issue that he has already called out in LY's season ending presser.

Last year our defense was allowing far more scoring chances against.

We had a 3.6 XGA/60 last year compared to a 2.18 this year. That is an expected 1 and a half goals better per 60 improvement.

Yes the goals look the same but the team is allowing far less chances against this year

You tell me what the team is supposed to given that it's impossible for them keep the lanes completely clear 100% of the time.

At some point the goalie needs to step up and learn to fight through it. I would agree that last year we didn't help our goalie out but this year that excuse doesn't add up to what the data is showing us.

And yes the coach is going to try to get the team to be even better then it has been because as you yourself said the alternative is hoping Helle makes a 180 turn in his game in a short period of time. Given what we've seen its more likely the team can give you a full 60 game 2 super defensive effort this post season then it is Helle is going to step up.

I read a lot of sympathetic talk here about how we can fix the greatest goaltender in the game like we are walking on egg shells but I can't help thinking if Comrie or Broissoit had played this series and put up those numbers you would run have them out of town on a rail.

Franchise altering game 7. Career altering game for hellebuyck (and realistically probably scheifele at 31). You either rise to the occasion or become arguably the most consistent choker of all time. This sounds dramatic but Sundays game dictates the next decade for the jets.
