I agree with most of this - Helle has let in some stinkers. Again, I'm not defending him - I'm trying to point out what he struggles with (year over year) and how it impacts him game (where the stinkers start showing up), is known. What can the team do to help? I'd suggest they do they same thing they do during the reg season - do a better job of helping him out.
I appear to be one of the very few that see the issue for what it is - he's not good when screened and then it snowballs- so why wasn't that an issue during the reg season? Because the team did a better job of defending. I get that the PO's are ramped up - when do we ramp up?

I hear what you are saying.

The flip side is that any goalie is going to be worse when screened. It's like asking a quarterback if they'd rather have a clean pocket or be blitzed, hit, and shaken to make a throw. It's a pretty easy answer for my money on what they are going to say.

The best quarterbacks find a way to stand tall in the pocket, take the hit, and make the clutch throws when they matter most. Teams don't stop blitzing in the playoffs last time I checked. Much like teams don't stop going to the net and setting screens in the NHL playoffs.

Let's not forget he snarkily told the media he's going to "make the adjustments" because he studies goaltending "more than anybody in the world." I'm not sure what adjustments he made but it's not working clearly.

Shit gets old when he talks like that and can't even finish a road game in the goal once the final buzzer sounds.

When I think back on the game and try to think of a player who stood out, I see Barron. That’s about it.

The D were afraid to get back and get the puck out quickly, the forwards passed the puck around the perimeter in the o zone. No one had any sort of aggression. It’s the playoffs, it’s hard, you ramp it up or you’re out.

I saw pretty much no one driving the net or fighting off checks. No push back, no urgency, no fight.

I feel like bowness last year. This team doesn’t seem to have the fortitude to dig deep and get their hands dirty.

Is he actually banned? Or just MIA

and that is exactly why the blame is going on helle, he's played 1 good game this series and this is the second time he's given up back breaking goals in a tight game that basically ended the game before we even had a chance to come back into it
As I stated, I was not defending Helle - just adding my thoughts to the struggles he has with screens and how he implodes afterward.
My whole point was on what the team "also" needs to do if they expect to be successful on Sunday - it's not just Helle IMO.

The craziest part about all this is that we can still win the series. We're yet to lose at home

Imagine being the Blues and you have to go to a 7th game even though the goalie you're playing against is posting an .815 save percentage

That's f***ing embarrassing

I think this has way more to do with the level of goaltending were getting then how the team is playing in front of him

I agree - Helle sucks when screened and is a pompous ass at times.
So what can the team do to help out with the screens? Because the fact that he didn't do what he said he would do, doesn't help.
IMO, that's the logical approach unless they think Helle will solve his issues with screens before Sunday - I don't think he will.
The worst part is how it impacts the rest of his game - he shatters.

The shit does get old - I'm not happy with him - I'm simply looking for options that will help - call them work arounds.
The low hanging fruit for me is the team stepping up - I see it as more viable than Helle solving his problem on his own (in two days).
Thanks for keeping it respectful -

did you expect him to call helle out? dude has zero confidence and is actively costing us games, that is the last thing arneil should/would do

He sure didn't do much of a job building up the "team" with those comments.
Love the spin - everyone has a take

it's not a spin, it's pretty common that coaches don't call their goalies out in the media and put it on the whole team...

Okay this one is going to take me all night

I'll pile on as a Debbie Downer, here.

Of course I'll cheer on the boys and hope they win game seven, but logically, for what?

If we can't get even average goaltending against and average offense, what shot will we have against a team like Colorado, Vegas or Edmonton?

The bigger concern I have is we have this pumpkin signed for 7 more years.

Oh well, I have cruises booked over the next couple of months, I guess I won't have to worry about missing games.
Yeah, it’s insane how much worse than last playoffs Hellebuyck has been playing, especially considering the Blues offence is nothing special

So did the team implode in front of him or is he just making that up so Helle feels better?

I can only characterize this game as disappointing. Kind of gut wrenching.

Thankfully this has been a homer series, and the Jets get their first ever game 7 whiteout.

I don't know if this team is fragile, I really can't explain the 2nd period collapse. I will say that I uttered several pejoratives preceding Mason Appleton's name for his inexplicable lack of spatial awareness on a tide changing goal that didn't change the tide.

I'd say the one surprise to me is Cam Fowler being the best defenseman in this series. I thought this was J Mo's series to shine. He hasn't even been the Jets best defenseman.
Definitely did not like his turnover that led to the go ahead goal. You expect to carry the play not give the puck away. Maybe I have to watch it again but he seemed like he bailed out on getting hit to give the puck back to St. Louis on the long change. Maybe there were no better options.

Then came the floodgates.

Hellebuyck I hope he has the mental resilience to bounce back in a winner takes all game.

Some likeable things from the PP, but also some fine tuning needed.

Ehlers wasn't as impactful as I expected in his return, but hopefully last night is a warmup for better things.

Scott Arniel is going to have to make some roster decisions to win the decisive game. Hope he plays his cards right. The Jets can't fold now.
