Just looking at the situation for Snuggerud:

If he signs now the blues can lower his elc to 2 years after this one, resulting in normal contract 2027/28, right? 2025/26 and 26/27 being years 2 and 3 of the elc - year 1 burned whether he plays or not, assuming we offer that.

If he doesn’t sign now there is no better time in terms of ending the elc sooner, and the first equivalent time to get the elc to 2 years will be after july 1 after next season - in which he will be signing a 2 year elc at the age of 22. (Brock Nelson) This results in his first normal contract occurring in 28/29, right? Yeah that seems right. This path is the same amount of elc as if he signed today and we burned, but takes 1 more year.

If he waits until July 1 this year to sign his elc he will have a 3 year elc - he would be signing as a 21 year old and the elc would end the same as if he signed after next July 1, just having to play 3 full years of elc versus 2 if he waits.

His window is now if the blues are willing to burn. It gets him the shortest elc he will get and also the earliest normal contract. No other path can beat the blues, so in the event he elected the other paths, he gone. But also makes it super likely he signs today.

Hard disagree. Replay comes at about 1:10. That's a trip, and an egregious one. Stick clearly hits his toe and then bounces up toward knee level. You can see the stick rebound from hitting his skate ffs. Zebra was right there on the blue line. I get that we have the benefit of slo-mo replay. But that's a penalty you have to call in real time.

I watched the video you provided as well as the ESPN feed again and you’re correct. #10 clearly hits Chesley in the right boot of his skate knocking that skate from the ice. When I watched it last night I thought it his his stick and be blew a tire. I stand corrected.

This changes the narrative somewhat for me. IMO, the officiating in OT in a lot of these college games has been simply atrocious. I get letting the guys play as refs don’t want to be the story but when you don’t call obvious calls then the refs are still the story, just in the inverse. There could’ve been a number of penalties in the two OTs of the Western Michigan-Minnesota State game too.

And don’t get me started on the Big 10 championship game. Michigan State earned at least 5 penalties in that OT but not a single one was called. I just searched for video and couldn’t find any but even the announcers were like, what are we doing here after a Mich St player slashed the stick out of the Ohio St goalie’s hand and then clobbered a guy behind the net in the head knocking his helmet off a couple seconds later. No call and then Mich St wins it shortly after.

WHAT A HIT BY THE BLUES DEFENSIVE PROSPECT!

Koromyslov is certainly a name to keep an eye on amongst Blue prospects. The 6'5 defender has had an interesting year in the KHL, playing on 3 separate teams, but he has played a consistent 2nd pair role on those teams, putting up a respectable 3 goals and 10 points in 49 games.
Is there video with this?

It would be nice if Koromyslov came over but we also have a big logjam with prospect D as is.

I might be mistaken, but I don't think we've even seen AK in a prospect camp yet, have we? He's a complete darkhorse for me.

He could easily be the best D prospect we have, but I would have no real way of knowing. He's in the same class as Lindstein and Ralph, where they're (probably) going to be primarily defensive defensemen, but there's at least some evidence to suspect they might contribute more offensively in a different situation than the one they're currently in. With Lindstein and Ralph, at least we get/got to see them at WJCs. I've maybe seen one clip a year of Koromyslov since we drafted him.

It looks like his contract is through May 31, 2026, so I guess it's possible we see him after that.

Haha, I’ve never heard of him. Now I want to learn more about him

9. Arseni Koromyslov

Arseni Koromyslov is a name most Blues fans may not recognize yet, but that should change soon. The 21-year-old defenseman, standing 6-foot-5, has recorded two goals and eight points this season across stints with Lada Togliatti, SKA St. Petersburg, and Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Kontinental Hockey League. However, it is his defensive abilities that make him an intriguing prospect.

The left-handed defenseman skates well and boasts impressive hand-eye coordination, a skill his coaches often rely on in late-game situations. He also possesses strong puck-handling skills and excellent vision, making him more than just a stay-at-home defenseman.

With the Blues organization already deep among left-handed defensemen, Koromyslov’s path to the NHL will not be easy, but if he breaks through, head coach Jim Montgomery will love what he brings to the ice. Fans, however, will have to be patient, as the Moscow native is under contract through the 2025-26 season.

I think he could be an NHL player, and I did like him on draft day, but I'd much prefer a left side of Broberg, Lindstein, and Fischer in the future. I might even prefer Loof or Buchinger at the moment because they're at least already there.

But as far as Russians coming over, I'd much prefer them to be Susuyev or Korotky; I think both of them have far more upside as forwards than Koromyslov does as a defenseman.

Isn’t Ralph LD too? I’m high on him too.

He is, and I think he could easily play in the NHL...but I'm much higher on Fischer and Lindstein. Fischer, I'm bullish on as having the best offense in our defensive systen (yes, even over Buchinger; what Fischer did for a very bad Sarnia team was nothing short of remarkable). Lindstein is someone I'm quite high on, and I think he brings the best IQ out of all of our defensive prospects, and I think his offense could be an underrated part of his game as well, if we encouraged him to take more chances.

Add in Broberg, and I don't see a route for Ralph.

Having too many good D is an excellent problem to have. Just due to size and length I’d love to see Koromyslov make it with the Blues…even if it’s at the expense of a guy like Lindstein.

Ralph and Fisher are physical specimens too…any of those guys with Broberg could make life very difficult for opposing forwards. We really need a RHD to burst onto the scene (in addition to Jiricek) to round out the depth. We’re very close to bursting at the seams with good forwards, if the Blues start hitting on some of these D-men this roster will be stacked for the next decade.

I don't have a lot of doubts about the defensive acumen of our LHD prospects. I think when they're ready, you could probably play any of them and feel pretty good about it. It'll be a dogfight between Lindstein, Fischer, Ralph, Burns, and maybe Koromyslov if he comes over and can translate to the smaller ice. Whoever can stick with the game and jump up in the O-zone like Monty has our guys doing now will win the jobs that are available. Sitting back at the blue line and waiting for the play to come to you won't fly on this team. We don't necessarily need one of these guys to be a Bouchard-level QB PP, but they can't be totally useless out there.

Iron sharpens iron though, so hopefully we get to see these guys competing with each other soon.

I think you’re making a mistake not mentioning Burns. There’s a reason that Kingston is where it is in the playoffs. He takes all the tough defensive assignments yet he’s like +43 something crazy like that. I’m really curious how he adjusted to the AHL level. I can’t say I’ve seen a player that the blues have play as well as Burns has.

Maybe Burns proves to be one of the best two LHD-prospects and rightfully earns a roster spot...he's got good size & skill as well. His omission was an oversight, but he certainly deserves to be in the conversation. One thing is for sure, the competition for NHL jobs is going to be fierce. I'd prefer the bigger guys make it alongside Broberg (6'4") to replicate the long and rangy defense we had in 2019.

Arseny Koromyslov: 6'5"
Colin Ralph: 6'4"
Marc-Andre Gaudet: 6'3"
Quinton Burns: 6'2"
Leo Loof: 6'2"
Theo Lindstein: 6'0"
Michael Buchinger: 6'0"

What number does he take? 81 is already taken.
He's worn 9 and 18 a fair amount in his history but both are taken as well lol. My guess would be he sticks with numbers divisible by nine. His options that aren't taken and follow that rule are 27, 36, 45, and 90. I could also see him potentially just taking one of those numbers or a random one and then changing it to 9 when/if Texier is no longer with the team. Some people might remember Thomas did the same. Originally wore 27 in juniors but wore 36 in preseason games for the Blues and later picked 18.
