Blues 2024-2025 Prospect Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

We’ve seen players make their NHL debut in the postseason before. It’s not out of the realm of possibility he could do that, but it would probably mean a long playoff run with some wear and tear on the starters.

Ironically, since I’ve been supportive of them competing for a playoff spot - it’s still about the future. I have no problem subbing in a rookie to improve his development, even if it risks some uneven play. My argument has always been that the competitive games have more value to the team (and players’ development) than the incremental improvement in draft standing. That’s especially true when you only really have a first this year.

However Montgomery has talked about dancing with the one that brought you, to the effect that I think he will respect the veteran players who fought their way back into the mix, and won’t easily give ice time to a rookie.
The ones who brought us here are the big guns, not Texier or Joseph, even though they've been serviceable. Snuggy's shot needs to be in the lineup to provide some secondary scoring

Mrsic would be a guy I would like to see in the NCAA next year. He's shown he has passed by the junior game, could refine his game a lot in college

I like what Joseph brings to the 3rd line. He’s is adding physicality and it goes with the new identity this team is molding in to.

This 100 %. He takes the body and that is important on the 3rd line. We are getting scoring support right now. (We haven't all season, but right now it feels like the top 2 lines are clicking the the 3rd/4th are doing their jobs with the occasional goal.

The amount of cycling the 3rd/4th line are creating is solid. At this point, I favor puck possession in the offensive zone from those lines vs a sniper. Who might score, but will not add a ton of other things right now.

Next year, I would be 100% about starting him, but right now, the team is playing great hockey and I want to see that continue. Adding another variable, I am not sold on that. Maybe after a loss, but not messing with things prior to.

That’s not a bad thought at all. Would be a good stepping stone going to a top college program before turning pro a year later.

That said, I don’t see it happening. For one, not sure I agree he’s completely outgrown the WHL. There’s 17 players that scored more pts/game than him and he still has a ton to work on away from the puck. But agree the NCAA may actually be a better place to develop those things.

I also don’t see a top player leaving the Dub. At least for now. So far, it seems to just be fringe players and overagers that are leaving the CHL for the NCAA. If/when top CHL players start leaving for the NCAA is when I bet the CHL teams try to change the rules. As of now, the NCAA allowing CHL players hasn’t really hurt CHL teams much.

Minnesota game getting delayed quite a bit. The matchup between 4 Minnesota State and 1 Western Michigan just ended in double overtime. The 1 seed survived.

That really sucks, I feel bad for Snuggerud. He did just about everything he could to drag this team to glory, but the refs really blew that non-tripping call in OT. Brutal way to go out.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next
Disagree. I thought it was a trip too in real time but watch the reply and Chelsey just blew a tire. Good non-call by the refs there. Minny was then caught with their pants down as they seemed shocked at the non-call and UMass took advantage.

Where the refs screwed Minny was in not letting them fix the equipment issue with their goalie and forcing them to put the backup in the game cold. 4 seconds later and UMass tied it. Huge swing in the game.

Minny vs UMass was an entertaining game. Gotta be honest though, even though Jimmy had 2 goals I wasn't all that impressed by his game. Low compete level and lost several physical battles, not much creativity in setting up teammates other than flinging the puck through the crease for a tip/deflection. Then on that OT game winner he gets stuck playing D and got burned. I know it's not his strong suit but for a sudden death situation I'd like to see more effort. His obvious responsibility is the guy going far side and he doesn't do much but a 1 handed stick check to stop the back door tap in...

He's going to be an obvious powerplay threat but I worry about his 5v5 effectiveness and ability to play in both zones. I forsee a lot of benchings early in his career.

As soon as Snuggs enters the league he’s going to be near the top in terms of his shot. But he absolutely has some holes in his game. I don’t see any of them as anything you wouldn’t typically see in a 20 year old amateur player but it’s why I’m not convinced he’s currently ready to step right into the NHL and be a positive contribution. He very well could need some time in the AHL next season.

That said, I’m excited to get the Snuggy era started regardless.

Hard disagree. Replay comes at about 1:10. That's a trip, and an egregious one. Stick clearly hits his toe and then bounces up toward knee level. You can see the stick rebound from hitting his skate ffs. Zebra was right there on the blue line. I get that we have the benefit of slo-mo replay. But that's a penalty you have to call in real time.

I think your criticisms are fair. He is not a strong defensive player, and there are definitely plays where his effort level needs to be higher. I’m hoping as a role player on the Blues and with good coaching he is making some of those effort plays in the NHL. I also agree he needs to get stronger. I’m a bit disappointed that he didn’t add more muscle to his frame over 3 years in college. I think added strength could really take his game to the next level as he has decent puck protection mechanics and that would make him more dangerous as a puck carrier as well as obviously helping his board play. I do think he will be an effective offensive player at 5v5 almost immediately though. His playmaking isn’t high end, but he makes a lot of good passes through the NZ, he can play the cycle in the offensive zone, and he will make some nice feeds to set up scoring chances here and there.

I think the fact that Chesley (?) goes for a swim after going down shows that he thought he was tripped. If he had toe-spiked or just lost his footing, you would think a talented player like him wouldn't have just given up on the play like that. But yeah he's down there looking around like "wtf, you aren't going to call that??" Especially in an elimination scenario, you would think that if the player thought there was any room for doubt, you'd get right back up.

Idk, that's sports for ya. You can't count on getting the calls you want/deserve. Still sucks for Minny and Snuggerud.
