Lucas Fischer was back on the ice this weekend for Sarnia.

Pekarcik had 0 goals in his first 8 games. In those next 16 games he has 9 goals, 12 assists, and 21 points. He scored 9 goals in 43 games last season, completely different leagues, but still nice to see him scoring goals too.

I don’t know that I necessarily agree, but Blues brass thought that the Q would be a step up for him competition wise. It’s clearly been an adjustment for JP, but it’s good to see the waters calming for him as the season goes on.

If both him and Stancl can become bottom-6 energy guys with size, speed, and playmaking ability, we’ll be in a fairly good position. I only wish one of them was a center.

Yeah, Stancl and Jecho are centers. Stancl centers the top line with Cristall. On one hand, it's good that he's centering the top line, on the other, we should take his stats with a grain of salt because of Cristall.

He has been on fire lately though.

I think if you swapped the two players over the first third of their seasons, Jecho would have even bigger numbers than Stancl, similarly situated

As an aside, in terms of ranginess & body movements (not production or skillset), Jecho is closer to Toropchenko with the way he gets after it and Stancl is closer to a Patrick Berglund with his body control for a bigger guy

Yep, if we can develop those bottom 6 pieces internally, it'll save us a lot of money, so we don't have to get vets in trades or free agency to fill the gaps.

And having actual centers will help when we have injuries. Like in the couple seasons after the Cup and we had guys like ROR, Schenn, Bozak, Thomas, Sunny, and Barbie that could all play center if needed when injuries hit.

I wouldn't mind keeping him down there for the rest of the AHL season. With his rate of production compared to Bolduc's AHL tenure, I'd predict that he will make the NHL next year.

He'll get games. Bolduc did too, and his PPG was significantly lower.

I’m okay keeping him in Springfield for the entire season. His confidence must be at an all time high right now. Let him be the man, but I’ll reiterate that if he wants to play for Slovakia at the WJCs, then let him. It’s good politics and would endear him even more to the Blues.

Good attitude, great work ethic, high drive, fantastic size. This kid has a chance to be something special for the Blues. He has the makings of a stud C, and boy could this team use that.

I love it that he was able to pivot away by not identifying a specific weakness.

And when the interviewer asked about Buchinger’s hard shot, Dvo asked, Which one? LOL. Great English skills.

I wouldn't mind keeping him down there for the rest of the AHL season. With his rate of production compared to Bolduc's AHL tenure, I'd predict that he will make the NHL next year.

I think that the Blues are viewing his development completely differently than their philosophy with Bolduc. Dvorsky is bigger than Bolduc (both at comparable ages and currently) and got to the AHL a year quicker than Bolduc. Bolduc may or may not have been ready for the AHL in his D+2 season. We'll never know since the NHL-CHL agreement prevented him from being assigned there. But what we do know is that Dvorsky has been better than Bolduc by a noticeable margin in their respective AHL seasons and Dvorsky is doing that while being a year (and 4 months) younger than Bolduc was in his AHL season.

Bolduc's first NHL game was 2 days before his 21st birthday and it came after he posted 8 goals and 25 points through 50 AHL games.

Dvorsky won't turn 20 until June and he already has 8 goals and 16 points through 20 AHL games.

Dvorsky is well ahead of Bolduc's schedule, so I could definitely see him getting the end-of-year NHL callup that Bolduc got in his rookie pro year.

I might weigh Jeff Marek's opinions way too highly, but he has regularly talked about how guys generally aren't eager to go to the World Juniors if they have legitimately established themselves on their pro teams.

I agree with you about allowing him to go if he is pushing for it. But I don't think it is very likely that he is pushing for it. He would stop getting a paycheck while he's there and I'd be very surprised if it hasn't become clear to him that AHL games are a greater challenge and benefit to his goal of getting NHL ready.

I could very much be wrong. Marek's info/opinion is probably mostly shaped by Canadian kids and the reality is that those kids are choosing between NHL and the World Juniors. They would be giving up way more money on the missed paycheck and the gap between NHL to WJC is obviously much larger than the gap between the AHL and WJC. Again, if he is pushing to go then I'd let him. I'm just guessing/assuming that he is privately saying that he wants to focus on being a pro hockey player.
