So…without looking it up because that’d be too easy, didn’t Montreal finish below us points wise? If so that means if they made the final 4 we’d actually move up a pick right?

I believe that's correct. MTL would have to win two rounds for the Blues to move ahead of them in draft position.

Except that they're playing Winnipeg.
We will be at 17th regardless of the outcome of round 2.
Winnipeg and Montreal are playing each other in the 2nd round and both finished below us in the standings. The one that loses will pick 16th, the one that wins will pick in the final 8(either 24, 30 or 31).

Just checking, but I thought we have the 18th pick? There are 15 teams that didn't made the playoffs + Seattle, so thats the top 16. Winnipeg/Montreal will be at 17, we at 18?

Are you sure? We finished tied with WPG in points. NHL.com has them 14th in the standings and Blues 15th.

I don’t view it that way. Had MTL and WPG been playing other teams in the second round, and both lose, then the Blues don’t move up in draft position. Now they are guaranteed to move up one spot and “pick” 16 (they are technically 17, but they would select the 16th player in the draft since PHX forfeits theirs).

The Blues have 5 picks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft as far as I can tell, please illuminate me if I missed one.

We draft 17th (1st Rd), 81st (3rd Rd), 145th (5th Rd), 177th (6th Rd) and 198th (7th Rd) barring any trades that bring in more picks.

I'd love to see somebody like Lucius or Coronato fall to the Blues, even though we probably need D more in the pipeline. With the goalies Wallstedt and Cossa likely in the top-15 it's certainly not impossible to imagine a situation where a few of these 15-guys listed falls to STL:

NHL Mock Draft 2021: Owen Power to Sabres as we pick for every lottery team (and predict trades)

There are at least 20 intriguing names this year. No matter what, the Blues will grab someone good.

So I have finally gone through this years crapshoot of a draft. Honestly I think there is pretty clear top 5-10 but after they go it is totally up in the air. An argument could be made for any player through the 10- 50 spots. The lack of information out there due to the pandemic is really going test our scouting department. There are two players that have caught my eye and both are expected to go somewhere in the 10-20 spot with some reports even having them in the top 10.

First up is Carson Lambos, the 6'1, 200lb LHD, who in some scouting reports has been compared to Alex Pietrangelo.

2021 NHL Draft #13: Carson Lambos Scouting Report

Second is Fyodor Svechkov, the 6' , 187lb C, who could become our very own O'Reilly clone. High hockey sense and gifted defensive forward with maybe even more offensive upside.

Good picks. I would be okay with either. This is who I want though : 2021 NHL Draft #23: Corson Ceulemans Scouting Report

I would not be upset with that pick one bit, he was probably my next defenseman pick after Lambos. Honestly though I could see Lambos being a top 10 pick but was thinking/hoping that maybe his injury this last year would scare some teams away. I personally think he has top 10 talent and belongs alongside names like Hughes and Power.

Coronato is also suppose to be pretty good. He's scoring almost a goal per game in the USHL. That's pretty insane.

This is how I saw it too. Looks like Winnipeg has more (Regulation?) wins, so we should in fact be rooting for the Habs
2021 NHL Entry Draft Pending Transactions
This shows the Canadiens at 16; Blues at 17; and Jets at 18. So yes, Blues should be pulling for the Canadiens, which would push Montreal back to the last 4 picks of the first round, and move the Blues up one spot.
