Excited for prospect camp. It’s one of my favorite events each year. Only going to the scrimmage tomorrow but hopefully the practices a couple times.

That stinks Kaskimaki is injured. Was hoping to hear how he looked. I wonder what the injury is? Hopefully nothing too serious.

And I wonder if Loof gets over his cold if perhaps he’d be able to travel and then join the 2nd half of camp…

Will certainly do that, though my opinion doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. I was enamored with Filip Helt years ago at the prospect camp

In all of the years I've attended this camp, Dwyer Tschantz is the worst player I remember seeing there. It was as though a beer leaguer won a raffle to join the Blues prospects on the ice. Just looked him up to see what he's up to and he played four years at Cornell(and presumably got a degree along the way) so good for him.

Scrimmage just wrapped up. Neighbours didn’t play, which was disappointing. The best players for each team were who you’d hope/expect. Bolduc for Blue and Snuggerud for White. Both guys, especially Snuggerud, were dictating play when they were out there. Don’t know if either had a point, but both had a couple of very impressive rushes. Buchinger made some impressive plays with the puck as well. Simon Robertson called for a pass every time he stepped on the ice which was pretty annoying, but he made a couple of nice plays too. Didn’t seem too interested in trying to get the puck back after he lost it though. Goalies were all strong. Someone with a keener eye can probably tell you more, but those were the standouts to me.

That’s too bad about Robertsson. He apparently wants to prove something with his puck skills and shooting, but not having the inclination to physically dominate younger or less-experienced players is disappointing.

He may never get another opportunity if he keeps this up and will be an early cut in September.

It's day one. I recall a few of these camps where guys simply wouldn't pass the puck and played a very selfish look at me game. I would let him settle in. We found out quickly that Perunovich wasn't quite so dominate against NHL talent doing the look at me thing. Not a slight on Perunovich, but he forgot he was a defender last year though his offense stood out. He's also what...19? Give him a taste to find out what he needs to work on. Sweden and the NHL are two different games. We've seen enough passive perimeter players come in over the years to know that won't fly here. (Sobotka after returning from overseas...not prior)

I think in the past the scrimmages are 3v3. If that is the case this year, I wouldn't put much thought into any of it.

Wasn’t he also unable to attend last year’s prospect camp due to travel restrictions? So this is potentially his first time in NA

Neighbours feels banged up due to his extended season but said he may skate towards the end of the prospect camp. Doug said he wants Jake resting up in July and August to be ready for main camp.

I understand all that you’re saying, but my position is not simply an opinion; it’s just the way it is.

He won’t have time to settle in before the coaching staff sours on him. Robertsson needs to jump in right now.

Once again, the coverage of prospects camp is horse dookie. I just hate that the people covering this team are all white haired old dudes, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but got dang you’d have to think a younger reporter might give more of a crap about, you know, actually reporting on the first prospect’s camp since 2019. Thomas would rather be covering football, Timmerman’s only interest is soccer, Korac is chasing tail on twitter and JPR is only doing human interest stories. Which is fine if you’re also delivering on the meat and potatoes. Other prospect camps have videos out the wazoo, we just get a few distant, out-of-focus, grainy videos from a 2007 motorola of some dudes jumping over a hockey stick. Our press is too checked out to care, just riding out the days to retirement. Like, cmon guys, let’s do our jobs here. The people wanna know: who’s standing out, what invites are impressing (or not), what do we actually have with these prospects we’ve drafted recently. Give us something, or get out of the way

I have to totally agree with you there! Unfortunately, the Blues prospects have never been a priority of any sort with our local media sources. I kind of wish we even had a source like the Cardinals have Cardinal Nation that can give us some in depth analysis. Really just have to rely on out of town sources and articles.

Another invite - Andrei Bakanov - LW - 6'2" 213 20 years old Sochi KHL

GP 24G 3A 1PTs 4PIMS 6-5

Kid has bounced back and forth between Russia and North America. One year in USHL, one year in OHL, back to Russia last two years. Committed to Michigan, didn't go.

Bakanov, a six-foot-two, 192-pound forward, spent the 2017-18 season with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies, totaling an impressive 112 points (57G, 55A) in 77 total games between the program's HPHL schedule and U16 AAA schedule.

... his best trait, a deadly accurate, hard shot. His goal scoring capabilities, his patience with the puck, and his NHL sized frame will be highly coveted.”

I remember the days when our press guys were actually at the draft every year. I asked JPR why they stopped one time during a live chat (so he must not have been at the Athletic yet) and he basically said “oh it’s the summer, 2 days is too long to be away, and nobody actually cares.” That’s a crazy thing to say, but it seems to be the vibe. They write bad stories that are short on tangible/ useful/ interesting content, complain about the fans not caring, and then use it as an excuse to do even less.

I’m sad that I have a business trip over the camp because I loved giving write ups on all of the prospects. The scrimmages are fun if meaningless. But the drills are where I found the value because you can get a good impression of the skills, talents, and intelligence (to a degree) of the prospects.
