Hard to dispute that this is pretty much the best pitcher in the world though. And if not, right there.

There's no pleasing anyone. If they are deciding to go for it, than you need to go all in. I could care less if they trade away prospects, if they have a chance to get to the playoffs than do it. It also shows FA in the offseason that they are serious players

Could you imagine us getting Cespedes with Price and the defense we would then boast.

I'm guessing pretty low.

Chances are he will go to FA, not to say the Jays wont offer him a good deal, but he will probably want to see what the market is like, and if the Jays pony up then maybe re-signs and stays here, but I would think it's highly unlikely he signs a deal before seeing offers from every team.

plenty of guys sign and take the guaranteed money rather than test the market

I'm torn. I want to finally see some playoff baseball in Toronto, but I also don't want to give up every top prospect we have. If we traded Norris and didn't re sign Price then I'd be pissed.

considering AA's love for control, he must think he's got a great chance at extending him. This is just so... anti-AA.

Either way they jays wouldn't do such a deal if without acknowledging that they will have to spend for a free agent pitcher anyway. So you might aswell just and lock him up.

I can handle losing norris

Agreed.

No saying he doesn't go the same route of McGowan, Romero, or another highly touted pitcher who never materialized.

Though if it's only 10 starts, it's a steep price all the same. I hope he works hard to provide an extension... if they can make the playoffs and get some revenue, maybe Rogers will see the benefit in throwing a truck of money at him.

Definitely feels like it.

He has to think that he has a good chance of extending him, becuase if not, one would think he would go after someone like a Ross.

AA doesn't trade for anybody last deadline and he gets reamed by fans for not going for it. Goes for Tulo and Price this deadline and gets reamed for trading away prized prospects.

Wow.

Yeah, no question, but as DJQ said... offer him Scherzer money immediately and work your way up. Most people who've come here have fallen in love... well, maybe not Roger Clemens, but he's generally an exception to everything.

Well he's guaranteed 20 wins a year with this offense. Wins give you much better chance of racking up Cy Youngs (although I think it's dumb to determine using wins)

he's currently at 95 wins in his career. He should eclipse 200 pretty easy if he stays here long term.

Let's just do it boys.

Heck while we're add it, see if you can snag Anibal Sanchez. Why not just go all the way in.

Can't say this isn't exciting. Even if the Jays don't manage to re-sign him, this shows that the Jays have money and could make an offer to at least someone like Samardzija in the offseason.

Also if it's a package of Norris + Alford + Boyd I'd have to think more is coming. Not Soria though, please. Definition of lucky.

Get the deal done!! Give whatever you have to give. We have the pieces to win now. Seems like every year it's the same old story. We have these top prospects that are untradeable and in 2-3 years they'll be our top guys but the team never gets any better. As a long time fan, I'm sick of waiting. Price makes us a serious contender.

not true at all.

With Price it's not so much "testing the market" as opposed to who's got the biggest dumptruck full of money.

He's guaranteed to get a huge payday if he goes to FA -- it's just a matter from who. There are teams with deeper pockets than the Jays, so there's a good chance the Jays offer isn't the best.

Then use some of the money they have saved with the others guys leaving to sign somebody else. Or look to make a trade.

Not keeping David Price doesn't mean they won't get somebody else.
Trading Norris + Alford + for 10 starts from Price???? That is the whole point here. Buerhle and Dickey's salaries are going off the books regardless if we get Price or not. Losing Norris + Alford does not NEED to happen.

Expectation among rival executives is that Norris and Alford will be in package for Price going from #BlueJays to #Tigers.

A lot to give up if Price only comes as a rental...
