I think it's tough for Canadians to divorce the visible intensity of hockey players from athletes in other sports. Which is why they tend to have some trouble with certain baseball and basketball players.

Robinson Cano, in his prime, would've been a massive target in this city because he never ran out ground outs. People would have likely wanted him to be benched for Johnny Mac. It's just the way Canadian sports fans are.

Or like Reds fans turning on their best player and former MVP because he landed on the DL last year. "He has no desire or willingness to play!"

My dad is the same way. Didn't like Reyes because he never looked to be serious. I asked him if he wanted to see reyes at the plate with a scowl on his face every at bat. It's a different sport and a different culture. Would be very hard to play the game 162 times if you didn't smile and laugh and have fun sometimes. Base a player off their ability.

Can't imagine anyone not appreciating Reyes hustle.

Dickey's outperforming his peripherals hard. Same with Estrada and Buehrle. I don't want any of them back, save for maybe Buehrle just because he eats 200+ consistent innings and gives the pen a nice rest, and unlike Dickey, he doesn't need a personal caddy or walk a few.

Dickey's a knuckleballer and a great defensive pitcher who controls the running game extremely well. He fits all the criteria of a pitcher who should be expected to outperform his peripherals.

Since converting to a full-on knuckleballer with the Mets in 2010, his ERA is more than half a run better than his FIP and xFIP. This season, the differences are actually less pronounced.

What are your guys' thoughts on trying to get Wheeler from the Mets now that their deal fell through? What would we likely have to give up?

What he would cost compared to what he can do for us in the next two seasons probably wouldn't be worth it.

@JeffWilson_FWST: Yovani Gallardo told #Rangers he would waive limited no-trade protection and accept deal to Toronto. Rangers could still keep him, though.

Trying to inject some life back into the farm system? lol

I wouldn't pay much but he would be a decent addition.

I'd like to see us add two starters (a big one and a BIG one). Some possibliities on the big one are Latos (if we could insert ourselves in the LA spot in the rumored deal, we'd make out like bandits) or Gallardo

The big guy is more obvious

@jonmorosi: #BlueJays indeed discussing Yovani Gallardo trade with #Rangers, source says. @JeffWilson_FWST and @Sullivan_Ranger reported TOR interest.

The ****ing cardinals just signed a 15 year 1 billion dollar TV deal. This is what sucks about being owned by rogers.

The news about Gallardo is interesting. Someone at my gym mentioned that she had a meeting with Bobby Whitt yesterday about signing Goins to a sponsorship deal. She mentioned that Witt said Jays are talking to another of his clients about an extension if traded. I just looked at his roster and saw Gallardo is on this list.

Well it could be King Felix :sarcasm:

maybe it's Danny Salazar? :naughty:

or maybe AA goes out to LF and picks up Parra?

but yes most likely it would be Gallardo

Hold on folks. Something might be happening. Can't say more because I don't know more. Doesn't mean it will. But... hold on.
