Just not a fan, don't like the way he plays. He looks to me like a guy happy to be collecting a cheque.

Like I said earlier, I'm just a casual fan though.

So to translate:

"Don't watch much baseball, his face looks like he doesn't care and I saw he has a low avg"

This would be the absolute worst time to move EE. Value is down because of the "off" year he's having (he'll still hit 30+ HRs and have 800+OPS)

As much as I just pushed the don't trade EE angle like two posts ago, I do wonder if the Indians clearing all these DH-type bats is a setup for a deal centred around EE and a Cleveland pitcher.

I doubt Edwin waives to got to Cleveland... after all, remember what Joakim Noah said about Cleveland...

Heard an interesting stat this morning. In 41 of the 102 games (roughly 40%), the Jays have scored 3 or less runs, they are 4-37 in those games. So although people keep saying their offence is other wordly, this goes to show that its a little misleading. So adding another real good bat in Tulowitzki can only help.

It's not misleading at all. Obviously adding Tulo will help, but the Jays already had the best offense in the league, and it wasn't even close. The Dodgers and Giants, the two teams closest to the Jays in offense, have scored fewer than three runs in 53 and 46 games respectively. Having a great offense doesn't mean you score a ton of run every single game... no team has ever done that.

You can't really compare NL to AL in terms of offence. I'm not disputing that their offence is very good, but their timely hitting in close games leaves something to be desired

Wow. I would caution against attempting to judge one's commitment or intensity based on body language or style.

As always, however; to each their own.

Like I said casual fan and I admit I could be very much wrong.

He certainly doesn't look to me like he plays the game hard.

No idea what his average is. Your translator may be broken.

As usual, the ones saying Edwin mails it in usually said that Reyes/Vernon Wells mailed it in too...

Teheran has been pretty terrible this year. He's got a case of the Hutch on the road.

meh I'd take the chance with that contract

Also if we did get a guy like Teheran, do you pick up Dickey's option to make him a #5?

That gives you Stroman, Teheran, Hutch and Dickey and then go sign a damn pitcher

I think it's tough for Canadians to divorce the visible intensity of hockey players from athletes in other sports. Which is why they tend to have some trouble with certain baseball and basketball players.

Robinson Cano, in his prime, would've been a massive target in this city because he never ran out ground outs. People would have likely wanted him to be benched for Johnny Mac. It's just the way Canadian sports fans are.

$12 million is a lot of dough for a #5.

Highest AVG, SLG, OPS, wOBA and wRC+ in high leverage situations in all of baseball.

It's just not true.

Hell no to Dickey. Don't want him beating up on Martin or have to carry around his personal caddy, and he isn't even close to good enough to be worth make those kind of sacrifices for.

Unless Norris would go the other way in a Teheran deal (which may be a buy low right now, so unlikely), I'd just keep and start him in the 5 spot.

I would not pick up the option, however I believe they will. That's independent of a Teheran or Ross or Cashner deal.

Mind you, I'm very much so willing to invest 5/$100M in Jeff Samardzija and want all the necessary funds available to do so.

Valid point but why is that a bad expectation to have?

#5 in spirit which is offset by the fact that your other three pitchers there combine to make $5M

Wouldn't be surprised if Dickey has a sub-4 ERA by the end of the year.

Do agree with the point about it being very tough on Russ though with him in there.

Because on the whole, there is virtually no difference between running out every routine grounder as fast as you can and literally just walking back to the dugout after hitting the ball.

I don't know how anyone could watch Edwin hit and not think he's ridiculously competitive.

Baseball players play everyday for more then half a year. Almost all of them are playing through injuries at this point.

I understand it's a long season.

Anyway, I appreciate most of the responses.

Dickey's outperforming his peripherals hard. Same with Estrada and Buehrle. I don't want any of them back, save for maybe Buehrle just because he eats 200+ consistent innings and gives the pen a nice rest, and unlike Dickey, he doesn't need a personal caddy or walk a few.
