Laine is likely a self serving personality that rubs a lot of people the wrong way. But it's not like Werenski and him has no beef btw them. Wasn't it reported that him and Jones Nyquist etc tried to get Laine and Elvis traded? Only they know how dysfunctional that locker room was with all the losing.

Strange comment from a guy who got caught skipping sleep to play Fortnite before hockey games

Laine showing exactly why he isn't respected or coveted despite his goal scoring ability. Completely self-absorbed and a terrible influence to have around your young players. Zero effort or dedication to his craft and then has the audacity to call out others for lack of competitiveness. Clearly takes zero ownership over his own career failure, and wants to point the finger at everyone else. You're a flakey, unwanted one trick pony - just shut up and do your one trick.

Guy needs a trade to Toronto where his values of personal entitlement and lack of accountability towards results would make him just another well-paid actor in a performance of perpetual mediocrity.

Honestly is Patrik like on the spectrum or something? Or is he just a quiet Finn that might have way of talking after the fact that is off-putting?

Seems like a trend with him ending up not liked with team leadership. We’ll see what happens with Montreal if the team isn’t good enough to win.

Good point.

He likely is on the spectrum based on everything we know.

Guaranteed that some people are better equipped to deal with management setting them up for failure and are able to accept it knowing there is a future payoff for the team.

Laine isn't and has never been the sharpest tool in the shed. It's more like that rather than him just being an asshole or a diva.

Also his mental problems began when his dad died in 2021, his troubles of getting sleep was due to that, not because of video games. As far as i understand, he got great support from his teammates in Columbus so with that in mind, no wonder guys like Werenski think that he betrayed them.

Awful idea to bash your old team right before playing them, they roughed him up and now he is injured again.

I bet Laine wasn’t injured. I’ll bet you the Columbus players were talking so much trash and the Columbus fans booing him hurt his feelings so much, he just didn’t want to play anymore.

Laine is softer than a kitten wrapped in tissue

Bottom line is that there was absolutely ZERO reason for Laine to open his mouth and speak in a derogatory manner about the Columbus organization. None.

The Bluejackets and their fans have every right to be offended and upset. I’m about as die hard of a Habs fan as there is, but there’s no justification for taking shots at a group that only tried their best to accommodate you and your issues.

Simply keep your mouth shut, move along and appreciate the chances and opportunities you’ve received. Laine would be well served to issue a public apology to the Columbus team and their fans, and acknowledge he was in the wrong.

For people like Laine nothing is ever their fault, it’s always others that are letting them down. They’re called narcissists.

Quite the opposite - Laine tore himself apart in countless interviews in Columbus. He's very negative and very blunt across the board.

The problem is that what he's saying isn't very accurate. The team that he went to is having a more intentional rebuild than what the Jackets did. The Jackets traded for Laine, signed Gaudreau, traded for Severson and Provorov, tried to hire Babcock, etc... They were trying and failing. And there was a lot of negativity that comes from that. The Habs had six fewer wins over the last three years, and by comparison seem pretty okay with that.

CBJ's roster turnover since Werenski got drafted is epic. Only him and Jenner left.
I think there might be some issues with the kind of "winning" culture those two are trying to sell in that lockerroom since no player wants to stay for more than a season.

I have to think Laine is on to something here since Werenski gets all worked up about it.

Got to love a bit of banter.

There's a word for it when a team has a lot of turnover and also sucks, it's called a rebuild.

This is one of those "you're not wrong but why are YOU saying this" things.

No he's wrong.

Portzline mentioned that in a podcast once - that in 2021 the old leadership group (which included Werenski and Jenner) tried to get Merzlikins and Laine traded, because they thought those two were prima donnas who didn't fit in the working culture that the team had established over the years up to that point. And Jarmo sided with Laine and Elvis. One of the biggest mistakes in franchise history. It should be mentioned though that Portzline isn't standing by his comment, maybe players have told him not to go there. We'll see if someone starts talking after this blow-up.

Yes, a stupid comment by Laine. No question.

....about some people playing a team sports which involves skating on ice and banging a piece of rubber around. In other words, pretty unimportant activity, merely entertainment. Yet people act like their mother got shot. On Xmas eve none the less. Get a life and get a grip
