“I feel like we were just doing the same thing year after year. I was tired of losing and just giving up when it’s December to start focusing on next year. I’m not going to do that. That’s frustrating as a player when you’re trying to win and some people are, you know, not like that.
“They’re a little too satisfied and too comfortable where they’re at. It wasn’t really a fit for me anymore. But here (in Montreal), it doesn’t matter if we’re winning or losing, we’re always trying our best. That’s what I felt about it (in Columbus).”

What an incredibly dumb thing to say. It'd be one thing if that was a part of a long-form interview or something in the offseason but to the media the day of the game against your old team that at least appeared to do everything in their power to support you through your own struggles is some classless shit. Especially considering what that franchise went through this fall.

Part timer Patty doesn't look very good here.

You would be wrong. Laine has never said a negative thing about Winnipeg, and it has been well recorded that he wouldn't have minded to actually play there again. When Laine was traded, coincidentally Bufyglien quit hockey, Maurice resigned, Wheeler was stripped of his captaincy and bought out... It's not like Laine was the one issue there.
Take a hike dope. Buffs agent said he was never going to finish that contract before he retired he loved playing there which us why he never played anywhere else although many teams tries to sign him. Mo just thought it was time for a change. And Wheeler like Tavares it was time for a new captain. Laine I think was looked at by the jets players the same way the cbj players look at him. Like a spoiled brat even before he said anything yesterday. Same way hab players will look at him soon enough.

I didn't like playing for Columbus because they sucked but its fine in Montreal because they suck but try harder? What?

Guy should've just shut up - not a good look on him

I mean, no shit, they haven't won anything. Doesn't mean guys don't care. Doesn't mean they aren't trying out there. Much like the Habs in today's game, the CBJ seemed to turn a corner once Laine left.
Care? Trying? When you start your annual tank in november each season you aint trying.

I mean, Laine never went off like this against the Jets so either something happened behind the scenes or Laine is doing this as some sort of shithousery-move.

If its the latter then thats even better. The league needs more banter like this even though its hard to stomach for overly sensitive North Americans.

On one hand, I like the apparent love Laine has for the Habs.

On the other hand, completely dumb comment. This team has been through enough. Shitting on them will only bring them closer together. Hence last night's result.

Pretty funny how the Laine discourse on this website changes drastically day to day
Not great comments to make but there are probably elements of truth there

Unnecessary timing and the wrong messenger no doubt, but the BJs evidently are a perennially unsuccessful organization and should stop looking for excuses if they want to have a future in the league.

could have found a better way to say that. we all know clb has a losing culture. no need to remind them just before the game. especially when they were good to you.

loved werenskis response. great moment of leadership.

Even as a habs fan I find this pretty tone deaf from Laine. Love the guy and his unfiltered nature , but how many games did he miss when he was in Columbus? It's not like he was racking up 100 pt seasons, or even spent enough time there to truly say it was a "year after year" problem.

He was obviously unhappy there but the timing and subject of these comments are kind of off base. Plus, it's not like the habs are some model of excellence the last few years when he was in cbj. Again, I'm not saying his reasons to be out of the lineup were not valid, but how can someone who missed the majority of his teams' games point at everyone else and say they aren't trying their best? It just seems odd

I have to believe Laine's agent will draft a statement for him to put out and try to take back/downplay this as much as possible.

Not a great selling point when his contract is up after next year.

I have a hard time believing the Jackets mailed it in December and weren’t trying.

I’m glad he’s doing better but in regards public speaking that was stupid.
