Two questions:
Is this real?
Is this sustainable?
I’m starting to get my hopes up here that the postseason is a real possibility.
You want to judge teams/players in ten game stretches. We're at 9, so I think it's safe to start making judgments. First, we are consistently outshooting and containing the shots of our opponent. Second, that hasn't always translated into wins because of inconsistent shooting % and ... bursts of poor save %.
That said, as time has progressed, shooting and save %s do look like they're returning to closer to league average (Sv% in particular as we've played Vanecek more, but that's hard to judge after so few games by him specifically).
I think tentatively I'd conclude:
1. It is for real.
2. I don't know if it's sustainable. The principal weapons we have going for us right now are depth (a very solid top-6 defense in particular) and
speed. Speed through the whole lineup. Speed from everyone, from everywhere.
I lean towards yes, it is sustainable, but it will depend... teams will start to approach us differently to try to contain us, and as they do we'll learn more about what we're really capable of.
That said, for damn sure we better be in the f***ing playoffs.
