Sabres --> #11, Skinner
Sabres <-- Kadri, R. Andersson

Habs --> #26, Gallagher, J. Anderson
Habs <-- Skinner

Flames --> Kadri, R. Andersson
Flames <-- #11, #26, Gallagher, J. Anderson

Buffalo add significant upgrades to their lineup at C and RD while also shedding Skinner's contract

Montreal land a notable upgrade to their middle 6, shave a few million from their cap, and clear 15.5 million in real dollars from their payroll

Calgary get a pair of 1sts to kick off their rebuild, while clearing the final 2 years of Kadri's contract

The habs would benefit by $9 million over 3 years not $15.5 and yet have to pay a roster spot out of that

So as a Sabres fan you don't like 2 way centermen who would have been your leading scorer last year? You wouldn't trade 11OA for a top pairing RHD signed to a 4M contract? I wouldn't even consider trading Andersson for 11OA. I'd want a prospect in the Kulich/Benson/Savoie bucket on top of 11 OA. That's just for Andersson.

Kadri isn't worth much, but I don't want to trade him unless there's an actual return.

Habs say no thanks. Skinner doesn’t fit into any rebuilding timeline so might as well keep the two we have and hope they rebound. Buyout later if necessary. Can also think of better use of the 26th pick in another trade

Not sure how Montreal even fits in to any part of the the Buffalo Calgary pieces. Anderson for 11 overall seems right. The rest rest of it is just nonsense

It's too big for me to comprehend. But not interested in moving Gallagher. He's overpaid but he a warrior.

Montreal doesn't need the cap space right now and the cost of Gallagher and Anderson is baked in.

And as bad as Anderson was this season and as bad as both contracts are, at least they can be played lower in the lineup, Skinner cannot.

This trade just doesn't make sense for Montreal (or the Flames).

Even if Gallager and Anderson are shorter contracts than Kadri, Kadri is still a good player who contributes. Flames aren't taking on two horrendous contracts for bus and trading away a #2/3 defender for a late first, two cap dumps and one semi-good pick.

Flames could get a top pick for Andersson without taking on garbage contracts.

Kadri contract is a future anchor.

Andersen < 11OA.

Buffalo has a top pair RD in dahlin.they really need a D first RD.

They aquired Byram.

Right now they have too much in D/G when filling out the roster. Maybe not now but they probably need to trade one of Power/Byram/Dahlin

there are 2 cap management methods

1. 7D/2G does not exceed 3/7 of the cap.
Or
2. If you allocate $12M for bottom 8 in salary which would be 4F/2D/BG/1 other player, then the remaining 9/5/1 roster has the rest of cap space. 40% on 5D/1G and 60% on 9F

Under both they will exceed the target where current 5D are at 31M and after resigning UPL they are likely over $35M

1. 87.7M × 3/7 = 37.6M. $35M is without 2D and BG so they will exceed it.

2. 40% of remaining cap is 30.7M

You could be over the limit like for a short period like putting more money there if you have ELCs in top 6. But in 2-3 yrs those ELCs are due. Buffalo doesnt have that situation with Dahlin and Powerand samurlsson on long contracts and byram looking for one next summer.

Next yr they have Peterka and Quinn due a 2nd contract and Byram is an RFA. If they had 3 more ELC yrs it might be easier to take on a $4.6M D for 2 yrs. Not now.

If buffalo was going to sign/ trade for a vet winger they likely trade Peterka/Quinn rather than their 1st round pick.

So at how many rebuilds do you think Buffalo should go and acquire actual good NHL players? Rebuild #4 or rebuild #5? You're on #3 now and it's pretty clear to me and everyone watching you need a tough minutes center and a top 4 RD. You also have more forward prospects than you have roster spots. Do you not think 13 years is long enough? Which RD do you think is available who is better than Andersson? BTW, you're dead wrong on 11OA being more valuable than Andersson. It's not really even close. 11OA in this draft is yet another 2nd line forward or a defenseman who will take 5 years to be a top 4 guy that isn't as good as Andersson.
