That's rich considering the source.

I've watched more hockey than 99.62% of the population. I'm no @StevenToddIves, @Bleedred, or @Guttersniped, but am pretty sure I'm capable of gaging a sieve after witnessing one on a consistent basis over an extended period of time.

Find where I've ever said a player or coach "sucks".

You may very well watch a lot of games and know about the sport.

Using terms like "sucks" gives the impression that you're more of one of the ESPN/sports radio types rather than a serious hockey person.

Don't often hear hockey people saying things like that.

Because that’s way too controversial.

How often is a player or a coach or a GM or somebody who works in hockey gonna go out there and say a player sucks? You don’t think there’s plenty of players that their hockey peers don’t think actually suck?

And people on ESPN and sports radio rarely even say guys suck either. Because they have to be a certain level of “Professional” and it’s the same thing with someone in the hockey fraternity not using that type of talk to throw verbal shade at a player.

you have absolutely, multiple multiple times, implied that most of our top players are not good enough. Are you really denying this? Did you think we forgot?

You've lambasted plenty of players and unfortunately a few of the best ones. You just seem to prefer semantics and take umbrage with the word sucks for some odd reason.

We're fans, the fast majority of us use that word to describe a player's performance at times. It's common vernacular afterall. Why you chose to single me out when a bunch of others guys around here say the same shit I'll never know. But good on you for being so pious and above all of that, I'm sure your family is proud.

And you're out of your mind if you don't think people like LL haven't said players suck behind closed doors. We're talking about a guy who sat at the elevators and mocked staff he had just fired while they were exiting the building.

Remind me again, what makes you a member of the exclusive group of "hockey people?"

Btw, a very brief youtube search shows plenty of examples of players and coaches saying their teams or opposing athletes suck. I'll even help you out a little:

Do those meet your standards for hockey and football people?

To be fair, I think his only point was that credentialed press types when speaking or writing professionally don't use blunt language. We've all heard much worse things than "you suck" said by athletes and coaches.

Sure, I guess. Even though if you grew up listening to the fan stinks, bum, and get this guy out of here were pretty common tropes among several credentialed hosts on that station. I also proved him wrong by posting several videos of coaches and other players saying that guys and teams suck.

He also didn't have to throw in the jab of my verbiage being indicative of a character flaw.

It's just an odd thing to try and hit someone over on an anonymous message board when just about every fan has said that about a player at one point or another.

I agree with your middle paragraph. With all your character flaws I would not have singled out "verbiage" /s

Hey all. Had a quick question for y’all, do you see Schmid as being the backup this year or would you be looking to move for a goalie?

If you’re looking for a goalie, I wonder if there’s a deal for Blackwood+futures for Reimer?

I think they'd probably prefer to keep Schmid in the minors for a while longer. I'd be interested in that deal if I was Tom Fitzgerald. Reimer would be a good #2 for the Devils IMO. I think Blackwood needs a change of scenery.

Surprised none of our fans have mentioned it yet, but Schmid was blown to smithereens last night in the AHL in a way that we haven't seen up here in a while, though Blackwood was just about there on Friday night. But Blackwood also struggled in the AHL one of the years in which he played in the NHL the very same year and it didn't seem to have any bearing on his NHL play.

Blackwood would be superb for the Sharks tank. And while I really have no interest in seeing this piece of shit player monkey branch to my second favorite team, I will get some sick sadistic pleasure in watching him play behind a REALLY BAD DEFENSE/TEAM. Something like he's never played behind before.

Reimer has looked pretty bad since coming back from his injury. I'd like to see if he can get it back a bit before acquiring him. But here, Reimer wouldn't have to be THE guy and I think he can help us in the way he helped the Sharks in 2016 when he was acquired at the deadline and Stalock (who was every bit as bad as Blackwood) was sent out because he was too much of a liability.

I would give Blackwood away for free at this point, just to remove the temptation of ever giving him a run of games again.

That’s what I was thinking. Would you do something like say Reimer (retained if needed) for Blackwood+Vilen+4th(ish)?

I know Devils have a lot of defensemen that are their long term (either prospects or on the roster) so figured you all would want to move one of them rather than picks. You’d also be losing cap since Blackwood is paid more than Reimer so could free you up to do more moves.

Reimer is so weird because it happened last Christmas break too. Not sure if you remember but he gave up like 5-6 goals a night right before and after the break last year too.

I don't see NJ moving a promising defense prospect for a rental goalie saving less than 90% of the shots. I also don't see NJ moving any assets to reduce the cap given the LTIR. If NJ gives up on Blackwood maybe a straight swap. It only makes sense if SJ sees Blackwood as a guy who still has some potential anyway. What you proposed is essentially a cap dump trade where Blackwood is traded at negative value for a smaller cap hit on a similarly meh goalie. That's not where NJ is yet.

Reimer is hung out to dry every night. If you truly believe that he’s similar to Blackwood then there’s nothing to be talked about. There’s are multiple times where Reimer is literally the only one back with 3 forwards coming down on him.

There’s 0 chance Blackwood is the same level as Reimer. Just look at the defenses. Sharks have 5 at best 3rd pairing D playing night in and night out. When healthy Devils have 4 at absolute worst 2nd pair D but closer to top pair with a few other guys who can play at that level.

Watching both teams, Reimer is under far more siege than Blackwood has been at any point in his NHL career.

Kahkonen has gotten WAYYYYY worse results behind the same team.

And I'm pretty damn sure Blackwood would fare similarly if not even worse than Kahkonen, as I'm pretty sure he's worse than Kahkonen or it's a wash at best. Although Minnesota made Kahkonen look better than he is, as he's a negative in GSAx throughout his career there.

Reimer isn't great and he's up there in age now, but he's certainly better than the decrepit #29 shit bag that we continue to hope and pray might be something other than a tank commander.

The only knock I have on Reimer (other than he can be very leaky at times through the butterfly and always has been) is that I don't think he's really starting goalie material in the NHL. He hasn't consistently done well as a starter. He did last year and he did in other assorted years in his career, but when leaned on too much he isn't very effective. And that's probably the one reason why he hasn't been a long term starter in the league.

On evolving hockey he's a -2.42 GSAx. He's a -4.88 GSAA, so if Reimer were to be a + in GSAx, he'd still be below the league average in save percentage, as the Sharks give up way more dangerous chances this year than the average team.

Blackwood's GSAx isn't much better and he's only played half the number of games Reimer has played this year.

This team could really use Reimer, as long as he isn't about to blow up with what's ailing him recently.

However, he wouldn't be leaned on as much here as he wouldn't be the starter. He would merely be playing the back to backs and maybe one game per week tops. The playoffs aren't happening if we have to lean on Blackwood that same way, as the guy is worthless and takes us out of games.

Worst statement you've ever made.

The njdevils of the past three years have been the worst defensive team I've ever seen, including our 80s teams.

Two #1oa picks were EARNED, even lottery played a role.

Ps. I'd love the Reimer trade.

I'm not watching the Sharks. I'll take your word for it on Reimer. Nonetheless, NJ has Johnsson and Bernier clogging up the cap already and it's hard to see NJ move Blackwood as a cap dump. NJ can just waive Blackwood if they get another goalie and he'd likely get claimed.

Believe me, plenty of Sharks fans would say at least this year (and maybe last) is the worst defensive team they've ever seen.

Switch Bernier for Blackwood then.

That is definitely correct. This team is god awful and only held up by Reimer keeping them in games and Karlsson, Hertl, Couture, and Timo being really good.

Bernier hasn't played this year.

Was skating during training camp and even played in a camp scrimmage. And there was even a time as recent as early November where he was skating and traveling with the team, but he confirmed to one of our beat writers that he re-injured himself in camp and wasn't sure on the timeline.

I haven't heard of him even skating since then.

It's still just a cap dump trade for a team that doesn't need to make a cap dump. The reality is that Schmid is probably better than either Reimer or Blackwood at this point and he's still in Utica so NJ is rolling with Blackwood despite a likely better option being available internally. I am sure Reimer has some abstract value but that's what NJ might offer, I don't see them paying a premium to free up some cap but not enough to matter.

But you aren’t paying to free up cap. You’re paying to improve your goaltending.

They could do that for free if they wanted to. Again, Reimer's abstract value is what it is and I doubt it's Vilen and a pick on top of it. NJ liked Vilen enough that they already offered him an ELC. Maybe Reimer returns a third? NJ doesn't have a third so it's Blackwood and a fourth or maybe some other team will pay a premium for Reimer. I imagine that NJ would have to be convinced Reimer is a significant upgrade on Schmid which is not at all obvious right now.

Reimer returns a 2nd just like all the insiders say. Blackwood has no value. It would be obvious if you watched a Sharks game.
