Blackwood Traded to Colorado

Blackwood doesn’t seem that much of an upgrade, but I guess anything to get rid of Georgie. Sure seems expensive if Kovelenko and a second was the price we had to pay to get rid of him.

Kovelenko wasn’t going to be a star, but he had potential to be a solid third liner.

I know it's not a deep list, but Blackwood could be on team Canada. I just realized that looking through some recent news on him.

Found conditions on the 5th rounder

Per the San Jose Sharks, these are the terms of the conditional fifth:

“Colorado will instead transfer the worse of their current fourth-round selections in 2025 (Colorado’s own or Vancouver’s selection) if at least two of the conditions are met:

“- Colorado advances to the Third Round of the NHL Playoffs in 2024-25

“- Blackwood wins 25 regular season games from the date of the trade to the end of the 2024-25 regular season

“- Blackwood starts 30 NHL Regular Season games from the date of the trade to the end of the 2024-25 regular season”

The thing that pisses me off about this isn’t the player, it's what they gave up to get him.

Grier acquired Blackwood for a 6th round pick a year ago. That's it.

Today, CMac gave up a quality young NHL player (Kovalenko) with upside, a goalie in Georgiev that while he hasn't great the last year, we have seen can be quite good when he isn't f***ed up mentally, a 2nd round pick, a 5th round pick that can become a 4th round pick, and retained 14% of George's salary... and Blackwood is a UFA at the end of the season.

Just seems like a massive overpayment and terrible asset management.
