Being in the same draft class has zero impact on his next contract, I'm wondering where you got the idea that Skinner will ask for something similar. Is it only fan speculation or is there proof somewhere?
Speculation based on making the finals, all star game, number of wins, etc. He's got the perfect comparables now with Swayman and Oettinger when it comes time to negotiate, but he isn't as good.

GAA is more of a team stat. Regardless, none of his stats scream "superstar", and he has those mechanics issues that aren't getting any better. His lateral movement is a real issue.

So when Skinner has good numbers it's because of the team and Skinner gets no credit.

When Skinner has bad numbers it's all Skinner's fault and not the team playing poorly. Got it.

Also nobody said Skinner was a superstar. He's an average starting goalie. There's only 5-7 superstar goalies in the league. Unless you're the Rangers, Jets, Lightning, Islanders, ect you have at best an average starter in goal.

Expecting every goalie to perform like Hellebuyck or Shesterkin is unrealistic. Skinner is a capable NHL starting goaltender.

No, it's best to not rely to heavily on goalie numbers at all. It's best to look at skills and overall ability. A lot of goalie success AND failure is because of the team in front of him.

Skinner at his best, is a capable starting goalie with some glaring weaknesses. But he has pretty big consistency issues. A lot of the time, the difference between an NHL goalie and a minor league goalie is consistency. If we can't trust him to not go through major slumps, especially in the middle of the playoffs, then we have a major issue on our hands moving forward, and I believe that type of thing is the difference between him being what he is today, and what we want him to be.

Nobody is expecting Skinner to perform like a superstar. But he has too many nights when he performs like an AHL'er.

The Oilers could definitely use Blackwood's services, but SJ is going to need to pay for teams to broker cap no matter what given all their retention slots are gone. But, Edmonton also needs an upgrade on D and Mario Ferraro might be a great partner for Evan Bouchard as he continues to mature and needs Ekholm less and less as his safety blanket 24/7.

Ferraro + Blackwood would go a long way to stabilizing the Oil, but if SJ wants to hold out until the deadline, that may not be realistic since we need the help right this minute.
Oilers are not looking for LHD, they need RHD depth to play below Bouchard

Hell, if Blackwood isn't going to move the needle for Edmonton fans and San Jose fans want a lot for goaltender, we can take Askarov off your hands

I'm not even sure Edmonton has anything that makes sense for SJ and their timeline and that includes Connor and Leon.

Sharks' biggest need are RHD Prospects. Picks would work otherwise.

Edmonton fans have been asking about Kostin lately too so I think Blackwood and Kostin for a 2nd (or a RHD Prospect) and a 7th should be enough. You should have plenty of cap space by putting EKane on LTIR.

Everytime I've read an Oil fan wanting Kostin it's only if he's retained 50% and SJ has no retention spots. Kane will be back at some point this season so the Oilers don't actually have cap space to burn.

If Blackwood keeps up the good play and teams (Colorado, Edmonton) continue having goaltender trouble, he should be highly sought after.
I imagine he and Gibson are the top two goaltenders on the market, but only one has a lot of term and cash attached to his equipment.
