Can we just fire this guy already?

Man I hate the way we play. We only attack offensively when we have to, otherwise low skill garbage hockey.

Guys, he's not getting fired. Yzerman had his chance after the road trip and didn't fire him. He's coaching out the remainder of his contract come hell or high water.

The "fire the coach" dream is dead.

Yzerman is most likely selling at TDL and drafting top 10. I think that was his goal all along.

Faster for Fester

I ask again, how much longer does this organization expect fans to keep paying to see a lackluster team on the ice? Clearly upper management sees this young season as a throwaway already, so why should fans be invested?
I know its going to suck but if we punt this season, sell at the deadline and have another strong draft we might be set up better in 3-4 years...

You say this like there is some easy way to have an alternative situation.

I mean I’ll point out this is the same org that gave you 20 consecutive years of playoff hockey and 4 Cups over that span.

They were going to have to re build eventually. Sorry, dude.

Not firing lalonde after this start to the season just shows yzerman is checked out already on the season. If we were supposed to be competing for the playoffs then this season is already a failure and the FO is doing nothing to try and fix it. At this point, yzermans seat should be getting hot. Choosing a lame duck coach is one thing but refusing to get rid of him when it’s obviously not working is even worse. And that’s not to mention the awful roster construction.

My brother in Christ, we're 5 years into Yzermans rebuild, 8 years into the rebuild altogether. 25 years of playoffs started well before I was born. I get "have patience", but why give deals to Kane and Tank and Gus when we had dudes waiting to fill those spots in the lineup?

Sounds more like Steve had higher expectations for where we should be. And in that case, why not make a coaching change?

Lalonde, just like Chiarot and Petry should just step on a lego and go on ltir for the rest of their careers. It's his third season and there's still no proper structure to the game. The penalty killing seems to be on and off, where it works decent in some games but on average...well, just by pk percentage, we're dead last in the league. Pretty much the only thing that does work adequately is the power play.

Wouldn't really object to having the entire coaching team being fired, same goes for pro scouting. Results speak for themselves, not the names.

Who is being blocked by Kane, Tank and Gus? Who could legitimately be called up and have the team be in a equal or better position? Mazur was the next guy up but that's out. Lombardi, Danielson and Tuo or Wallinder would be the next in line and I don't think they would fare well in the NHL at this point.

I won't refute your 2nd point though. I think the current roster is better than how they have performed. I find the "blame it in roster construction" to be fairly bogus. I think the best players, given this team is a bottom dweller, were brought in. What I'm not seeing is a cohesive system for the team. That falls on coaching to me.

I'll rephrase. I should've said "giving roster spots to established vets, such as Kane/Tank/Gus would indicate we're done with a rebuild and are going to start pushing for a playoff spot."

(although I do feel in this moment, Mazur would be an upgrade on Tank)

But their struggles, as you've stated, fall on coaching.

I see those deals as proof the Wings are still rebuilding. they're all 1 and 2 years. They're fillers while the prospects continue to develop and join the team.

Which is all well and fine, but if we were going to sign guys to fill holes for one or two years, why not just extend Perron for a year or two, and/or not trade Fabbri? It'd have had the same effect, without breaking chemistry.

Steve obviously thought he was signing upgrades on those guys, which in my eyes means Steve thought we'd at least contend this year.
