Nah, I'd still take Mackinnon's night over Matthews night. Mack scored 3 assists to Matthews 1, was electric and had a chance to tie it in the last second. Game of inches, whatever we got the win and I'm happy. But individually, Mack had a better night.
The Avs were also the better team by a large margin last night. Switch Matthews and MacKinnon and I doubt much changes. It's hard to generate offense when your D is hemmed in for most of the game. This game is also a reminder that the Leafs need to get bigger and faster on the backend.

He’s that vet centre with the kids for sure. But Willy’s change to go with a struggling Bert and Domi isn’t exactly an upgrade either.

Both kinda got demoted
How do our figure Willy got demoted? He and Bert were both suffering from playing with JT. As soon as they got a centre who was a better fit, they improved.

I'm glad to see someone other than Matthews score a few goals.

Bertuzzi is probably just as surprised as the rest of us it was him. That was an almost 50% increase in goal totals in one night. Talk about a breakout performance.

Hope he didn't just use up his yearly allowance all at once.

The Leafs are running hot right now. This is the team fans were hoping for at the start of the year. There's no reason to not make a big TDL acquisition now.

Unless you think this hot streak is a fake.

Treliving needs to give the players a vote of confidence. Bring in a ringer or two. Get the best player(s) available regardless of cost.

Not doing so would be a disgrace after the way these guys have been playing lately.

I understand your point but also if Tre stands pat, it shows he has confidence in the current team and doesn’t need to add.
Personally after watching these past few games. I think the forwards are fine unless someone with size and can score can come for cheap.
Sammy and now Woll are good so unless Marky or Saros come over, no need to get another goalie.
Defense is the area where I really think they need to get a RHD to partner Reilly, it doesn’t need to be a top pairing D, all he needs to be is have size, clear front of the net and defensive sound. Like Hainsy or Schenn last year bc Benoit-McCabe, TJ-Lilly are good pairs then we already have Gio and Legesson and Timmins as depth.

As a matter of organizational integrity they owe it to the fans, the players, and to everyone else who cares about this team to go all-in.

They didn't just promise us a contender. They promised us a Stanley Cup winner. They owe it to us to do everything they can to get there.

They just come across as hypocrites if they don't.

I dont think any teams should continue to overpay and trade for rentals year in and year out with no real playoffs success.
Also Vegas didn’t really make any mores in the TDL last season.

Maybe not at the TDL, but Vegas also replaced the coach, brought in guys like Pietrangelo and Eichel, and made a number of other bold moves over the years the Leafs haven't had the balls to do.

Comparing Vegas to the Leafs is like comparing a grandmaster chess champion to a high school checkers player.

4 games in 6 nights, all on the road. All wins.

The way we won last night is how I'd expect them to win with the 4th game coming after 1 day rest off 10pm back to backs and against an elite team. You knew it was going to be an adventure with a lot of scrambles in the d-zone.

What's key here is showing we can win the 4th out of 6 against the Avs regardless of how.

Contender status ramped up. Persevered and won off our skill. Nylander and Marner with some slick plays and Bert tracking the play well.

Are we still selling :sarcasm:

Nylander's 2nd and 3rd assists and Marner's goal were the best plays of the night.

I knew good things were going to follow as soon as I saw the center lane open up and it was Marner who had the puck on the boards. A little 1-2 and it's in the net.

I don't remember if the new second line was put together against Arizona or Vegas, but in the last 3 games Nylander got 2 goals (ARI), Domi got 2 goals (VGK), and now Bertuzzi with 2 goals (COL).

I'm not sure Toronto will pass Florida, but you never know. I think the likely outcome is a Toronto/Boston first round with the Leafs having home ice. That is a dream match-up considering what Boston is at this point.
There is no dream match for the Leafs, the way they lose in playoffs. “We want Florida” rants were proven to be laughable.
