change up the lines...

Give me..

Laffy Zibs Kakko
Panarin Trochek Goat
Krieder Chytl Vesey
Blais Carpenter(ugh)

Spread the kids and the vets out. The kids know to go to the net and shoot. Zibby shoot, laffy passes, kakko along the boards

2nd line panarin needs trochek bc bread just isnt great on D, and i love goats game, give him a chance to put ito together.

3rd line, Krieder and Chytl have great chemistry together when they play together. Both vesey and chytl will shoot, krieder at the net.

also split up PP 1 and pp2, play them equal amount of time. PP1 only looks for zibs to shoot. everything else is on the outside and passes. teams know to wait and we will make a dumb pass.

Get laffy chtyl wth krieder and bread zibs kakko.. whatever../.
Why? Will that suddenly make them shoot more accurately? It seems when the kids ply with vets they defer to the vets and don’t shoot themselves. We have something that works, PP1 and you want to mess with it?

The process is working. The results aren’t there right now. No need to change just to change

Should have found a way to keep Buch. I really hated that trade .
Ancient history. Let it go

The 2013-14 Rangers in the first 41 games of that season shot at 5.72%, 29th in the NHL. The last 41 games, they shot 7.52%, 12th in the NHL.

Even last year, the Rangers shot 8.58% which was 12th in the league. I don't think this team forgot how to finish at an above average rate overnight.

I've been pretty down on the team at times but there's reason to believe the goals will come eventually.

Hogwash.

They're first in the league in high danger chances for and 3rd in the league in overall scoring chances. The problem is that they can't finish, 5 v 5 or on the power play. Horrific luck has been playing a part too. That it wasn't at least 2-0 after the 1st period last night was absurd.

Probably the largest problem we saw most of last season and the first portion of this season still remains. We simply have to labor way too much with all this talent to score points 5v5. This was also magnified in the playoffs. Gallant seems to be the opposite of Quinn. If there was one thing Quinn did fairly well was get this team scoring goals. Problem was his teams werent good at much else. Gallants teams for the most part compete really hard, are intense and play great on the PP, but man the 5 on 5 stuff just doesn't generate enough goals.
They definitely struggle at even strength. And i don’t think it’s a shooting luck thing. I think it’s an over passing thing. That allows the goalie to read the play.
But I don’t think it’s a Gallant thing. They’ve been this way as long as Mika and Panarin have been leading the Top Six.
Fox i think sees it and has been trying to shoot off-cadence more. Trying to cause some chaos. Which is one reason why I think these guys will eventually figure it out. But we’re still in the desert.

did you catch vally tonight? Rangers lead the league in quality scoring chances. So other than gallant going out there and scoring himself it’s hard to say the coach’s system doesn’t work. These guys need to finish. You can’t coach that.

Not shots. We lead the league in quality chances. That’s big.
The stats are a mirage. Why do we make every goalie look amazing? Because we don't wrong foot them enough (by going EW, or shoot at the pads for rebounds to mop up). The goalies are square to the shooter most of the time so to score the shot needs to be perfect, or we are too close so we can't lift the puck over the pads. Positioning, timing, placement etc all play their part in High Danger Chances, it's not only which position on the ice the puck was shot from.

We also play slow so the chances develop slow, so the goalie has time to track and square up to the shooter. Gallant's team will always be low scoring playing like this. But I guess that's the plan, get a goal or two ES, a goal or two on the PP and see out the game. Zzzzz

Yeah I don't even know what you change. It's not just "they're shooting the puck a lot but not creating quality chances!" because they certainly are, things just aren't going in for them. It's not even "well they're not close enough to the net!" because they create those chances too.

Just kind of weird and frustrating. This is a lot different than last years 5v5 struggles which were mainly about not generating shots and chances at all.

TBH I think the players and Gallant just need to play through it and not worry about trying to switch things up. Just go out every night and try to get as many scoring chances as you can and not give many up. Don't get fancy and start thinking "oh well maybe if we just stop shooting and try to pass the puck into the net it'llw ork!" because it won't

Tons of shots off the post and then you have the wonder twins frickfreniere and frackko thst haven’t scored a goal in their last what 13 14 games? Ridiculous

You cant have a top 6 with 4th liners on it, you can't. The team as its built is missing 2 RW top 6 and a bottom pair dman. I've said it before but the biggest issue this team has is that Kreider refuses, and the staff refuses to turn him into a RW for the betterment of the lines. Move Kreider to RW and now we still have Laf and Panarin at LW, Kreider and Kakko at right wing and Zib and Trochek as centers in our top 6, whatever way you arrange it thats better than what we have now. Vesey/Blais Chytil Kravtsov...Vesey/Blais Goodrow Gauthier thats the lineup.

"What if the goals don't come?"

"Wins count in April"

"It might not turn around"

You know what? You might be right. Maybe it just doesn't happen this year. Show me on the chart where the world ends.

We won the Cup after randomly missing the playoffs.

All these useless platitudes about how "we should just score because I say we should for reasons xyz" are so annoying and you all fill literal pages with them

Did you just start watching the NHL? It's hilariously common for teams with high offense to struggle to score for stretches.

It's really making this board unreadable.

shooting drills for the next couple weeks.

we could also put those electric dog collars on them... if/when they stop skating and puck watch, zap them.

Uncle Larry pointed out the biggest news for optimism today. Shesterkin seems to be rounding into form. He’s been very good his last 4 games. One or two funky goals but that’s normal. Otherwise he’s been really strong. If he’s back on track we will get back on track.

I know people will say its making excuses but the Rangers have had horrible puck luck this season and ran into an absurd number of goalies who are having career games versus them. I think it's a by product of being so skilled offensively that other teams know they better bring their A games.

im not worried about this teams scoring talent. they are controlling play and getting more chances at 5v5 than they were last year. it's frustrating to watch but they objectively should've had 4 or 5 the other night.

This is not a coach problem, its a personnel problem. We are struggling to finish, but that is not the same thing as struggling. Some of it is poor finishing ability/bad shooting percentage, some is an unwillingness to score grease goals. More Trocheck, less Panarin.

Also, the Rangers are no longer an unknown. We made it to the ECF. We aren't measuring ourselves to other teams anymore, they are measuring to us. Teams get up to play us now so the fact that we have been as good as a team this year as we have is not concerning, its relieving.

I think the whole "they're not going to the hard areas to score goals!" is also bullshit, they're getting shots and chances from all over, they're getting guys stoned from right in front of the net, they're getting rebound chances from in front stopped or they're missing the net or getting blocked. People are reaching for explanations and the easy ones are always "the team is soft and not scoring hard goals!" because that's always the easy excuse for fans of any team.

they can re-arrange the deck chairs (lines) but in the end the only thing is that players have to start scoring on their chances. They're doing the right things, they need to put the puck in the net. It just is what it is

You can be doing all the right things, but those things can be just half or 3/4 of what you could be doing. How about some stuff-in goals, some jam plays, some screens, some gamesmanship-type plays to get in the goalie's head?

The thing for me is all of the "can't score, must be a lazy country club team" conflation. Like what kind of lazy ass smooth brain take is that?

It should be something I'm used to seeing around here but it's actually blowing my mind that it's where people's minds are going after literally every game at this point.

Always been true

A few factors, I think.

1. They don't fight hard enough in the dirty areas. When a shot gets on net and there is a juicy rebound, they're not exactly where they need to be to pot the rebound. Maybe the guy is turned partly around and can't get a good stick on it, maybe the guy doesn't have great body position at all and is boxed off. Goal scorers who have a nose for the net will naturally find themselves in position on rebounds and body off defenders to get to the puck first.

2. When it's just the player and goaltender 1 on 1, it's a chest snipe. Failing to lift the puck, or missing wide when trying to pick a corner. Pure and simple shooting inaccuracy or maybe trying too hard to make a perfect shot. Lost confidence in own shooting ability. When you're not confident, you hesitate or you try too hard to pick a spot or you pass it off and it looks good because you're being "unselfish."

3. Just bad puck luck. Like the Trocheck blocking a shot from his teammate while trying to avoid goalie interference and opposing players getting in the way of shots into otherwise open nets with the opposing goalie down and out.

4. Guys getting held or interfered with on sure-goal situations. This is real. Other teams get away with a ton of crap done to our players. Some do get called and we get the ensuing power play, but those are the "good penalties to take" by the other team to save a goal.
I'd say 1 and 2 are the main reasons.

Our elite goal scoring 1C has scored even strength goals in 1 game this season.

He does not look like himself right now. He's received a lot of glorious chances or would be chances but he flubs it way too much
Opposing teams are also defending much better.
