We’ve all heard the same stories of Keenan, Babcock and even Scotty Bowman. But what are some less known examples of guys being less than friendly or just being bad people.

Some guys like Taylor Hall that have been moved around do have alot of chatter online of character issues or just having big egos.

Let’s keep it hockey related

Some of the biggest jerk moments specifically:
- Babcock benching Chelios in the outdoor game and making Modano a healthy scratch for game 1500

Let’s hear them especially older stories that maybe have not gotten as much chatter

Hall was a saint in Boston

now, you may have some sort of inside knowledge or something to make such a ridiculous comment....if so, we would love to hear it.

A dick to NYR fans? really? Gotta hear howso....
No big story. Just a couple friends in the service industry met him at various points the year the Rangers won the cup. According to them, he was a an arrogant prick and a bad tipper.

I’ll never get over giving up Tugnutt for Barrasso. So I’ll include Marshall Johnston to the list.

I am aware that Laukkanen went in the deal too- but Tugger was heart and soul.

32 year-old Ron Tugnutt who finished 29th out of 40 (among qualifiers) in the league in 1999-2000 in save percentage and who had never won a playoff series in his career to that point including starting and losing two games of a four-game sweep vs. the Sabres the year before? You'll never get over it?

Winnipeg is a small town so you hear stories - Evander Kane used to skip out on tabs at restaurants thinking he should eat for free. My brother in law insists he witnessed Jacob Trouba push a guy out of his way to get a drink at the bar. When said guy confronted him, Trouba just laughed in his face and told him to get lost. Lots and Lots of rumors about Bogosian and Trouba indulging in the booger sugar, and is likely a factor in Bogosian being traded to get him away from Trouba as they were buds.

Finally - Wheeler wasn't well liked in the room according to Media reports. I think he was likely ok with fan interactions though as the Captain.

Oh actually on the flipside, during Teemu's first year in Wpg, my Mom said his wife (GF at the time) had volunteered at some charity event among a few other Jets wives, and my Mom was also there as the bank she worked at was putting it on. She said Teemu's gal was the only one who offered to stay and help clean up after and was a super sweet person. Just random, but yeah.

I remember reading a story on reddit years ago, about how some dude was sitting near RNH (or possibly Hall) at a bar with some girls, and after a few drinks he sticks his debit card in one of their mouthes and goes "hey baby, how does $925,000 taste?" or something along the lines of that.

I'm not sure if it's true or not, but that story has always stuck with me.

I know he has a reputation, but for a number of years he owned a sports bar in the suburbs of Detroit. One night, my aunt (in her 60's at the time) saw him sitting at a table crunching some numbers, and walked right up to him and thanked him for the memories and asked if she could get an autograph for me.

He invited her to sit down and they proceeded to talk for 10 or so minutes. Really changed my perception of him, that was a real classy thing to do and I respect that.
There are numerous stories about Taylor Hall that have been circulated around Edmonton. I’m sure some are true and a few with some truth but exaggerated. Where there’s smoke there’s fire.

I’ve never heard one bad word about RNH.

I was at an arena during Minor Hockey Week and Dwayne Roloson was there watching his kid play. In the lobby between games as Roloson was waiting for his kid talking with an adult, one of the kids (maybe about 8 years old) comes up to him, awestruck, and asks him to sign the hard hat they were awarding to the hardest working player. Roloson doesn’t look impressed, he signs it begrudgingly without even exchanging one word with the kid.

I get it was his personal time but it was Minor Hockey Week… in Edmonton… and an 8 year old hockey player is asking you to engage with him.

Even though he did sign it, I thought it was a rude/unprofessional interaction.

There was that time that Mario Lemieux allegedly stopped his sexual partner from preventing a rape happening in the bed beside him. And that after the alleged rape he doused the victim's clothes in beer, kicked her out and called her a bitch. Oh then used his power to have a publication ban put in place.

Or that time that Mario Lemieux signed Billy Tibbetts. Ol' Billy had been found guilty of brutally raping a 15 year old. Lemieux referred to Tibbetts as having a great story.

Or that time that Mario Lemieux was part of the upper-echelon of Penguin personnel who told Skalde to keep quiet about his wife being assaulted by serial sexual harasser Donatelli.
Except besides the Tibetts thing none of that has been proven, and for the most part looks to be fabricated.

Personally witnessed Recchi try to hook up with a friend while he had a wife and kids.

Steve MacIntyre did this as well when he was on the farm team. This if from a friend that used to serve the Baby Pens at a nearby restaurant.

Didn’t see it personally but my brother has been a chef at varying levels in the Pittsburgh area. One of which Letang is a friend of the owner. Apparently the guys a real jerk.

Huh? You’re gonna have to explain some of these, especially Tage.

I could see the Tkachuks being assholes. No evidence, just vibes.
Not that I have to explain it to you but I can give you some hints:

Tage - his SoMe content, especially early November

EK - worked around WCH 2016, he was an a** to some players, especially the Sedins

Marner - strikes me as an entitled child

Etc

For what it's worth Patrik Berglund said in an interview that Tage had a huge ego and rubbed guys the wrong way even when he was a rookie with the Blues and hadn't proven a damn thing in the league.

Interesting that half the posts in this thread live…

And I know the OP said "keep it to hockey" but I'm still including Mikey McLeod because he did what he did during the 2018 WJC.

What did he do again?

Modano played 40 games in his final season, and that included the final game of the year. It isn't as if Babcock benched him specifically for a game that would have given him 1500 games. He missed half the season either because he was injured or he just wasn't really all that good anymore. I personally can't remember which one, but there seems to be this idea that he was right on the cusp of 1500 and then sat out that game just because Babcock felt like it.

Except besides the Tibetts thing none of that has been proven, and for the most part looks to be fabricated.
The fact that the pens paid a whole bunch of money to settle the SA suit right before it went to court, taken together with the totality of circumstances, doesn’t reflect well on the actions of the FO. With Mario named personally as a defendant in that suit.

As for the specific details in the rape case, I can’t speak to those, but i know the girl in Mario’s bed testified that she heard the girl in the next bed crying and pleading “No” during the alleged rape. If that was true and Mario was in the room and did nothing, that’s a pretty damning indictment of his character by itself.

What led you to draw the conclusion that the claims were fabricated?

While that may be true, Berglund is not the nicest of guys either :/

Radulov...
We had a training camp and at the same time there was a pre-season tournament with his Russian team, 2 Swiss and 1 German team. Most of the players were very open and signed the kid's jerseys, caps et... Mr. Radulov did not even look at the kids. Such an arrogant guy..
