Brian Boucher (1st round (22nd overall) in 1995)

You also have a couple of guys picked early in the 2nd round like
Kevin Weekes (2nd round (41st overall) in 1993)
Jean-Marc Pelletier (2nd round (30th overall) in 1997)
Philippe Sauvé (2nd round (38th overall) in 1998)

Two of these guys became NHL regulars, while Boucher got, at least, a better career than Jimmy Waite...

G Michel Plasse was drafted first overall by the Canadiens in '68. Since then, no other 1st overall goalies ever.He stunk, too. He played one 55 game season with Colorado, and ate NHL bench, AHL duty, and AHL bench on and off the rest of his career.

OH yea waite...The Hawks choose to trade Hasek over Waite. Waite for somany years in the early 90's was the next elite goalie but he just flunked out and finally the hawks traded him, he came back once i think and then floated around the nhl for a few years....I wonder where he is now?

Waite is playing in Germany, this is actually his sixth year here. If I remember correctly, he even won goaltender of the year at least twice.

I am gonna be stubborn about it...I said after being a star in junior...& doing very well in the NHL early on ...& raising the bar/expectations=THE BOOM YEARS... He did nothing after 1984...when he was still ONLY about 25=THE BUST YEARS... Notably, you dont mention a single thing Riggin accomplished after 1984 ether...

In my mind, Riggin is reminiscent of how Theodore's career seems to be going...Both seemed to go BUST after stellar beginnings...

Brian Boucher for me. Was a 1st round pick at 22nd overall. And long before setting the all-time NHL record for perfect goaltending play (the consecutive minutes of shutout record), he was a young phenom who led Philly in the 2000 playoffs. He simply dominated down the stretch. Was outstanding aganst Pittsburgh. Played extraordinary against New Jersey until they edged out Philly in a close close series. After watching him play during that playoffs, I was almost certain that he'd become a bona fide Vezina contendor for many years to come. He, in my mind, is the biggest goaltending disappointment simply because of the flashes of brilliance he teased us with during his NHL career.

Jim Carey was pretty bad with Boston. I don't know if that's the bust type you're looking for, though.

Trevor Kidd was supposed to like, set the world on fire with his goaltending, and... well... no.

I was able to watch Krahn a few years back with the Las Vegas Wranglers.

He's still in the Flames system in the AHL for Omaha. He'll be 26 in about 2 weeks.

Curtis McElhinney has surpassed him as Omaha's starter this year.

For this Bruins fan, two that come to mind are Evgeny Ryabchikov, an infamous first-round bust from the '94 draft, and Blaine Lacher, who was great during the first lockout and then fizzled just as fast. Media and fans here invariably refer to Blaine as "Let 'Em In" Lacher.

wow um there is no "WAY BEFORE THE INJURY" with blackburn. the kid was in the nhl at 18 got hurt before he turned 20. what were you doing when you were 18 drinking behind the bleachers at your highschool? the kid was unreal at that age just unreal and if he didn't get hurt he'd be one of the top 5 goalies in the game today not a doubt in my mind. really feel for dan blackburn great young player.

Trevor Kidd's an excellent choice in terms of an underachieving goalie. He had a true roller coaster career. He was brilliant in 1995 with the Flames...

Except for the 1995 playoffs when he couldn't stop a beach-ball vs. San Jose. Truly all-time awful.
