I would never. @VladDrag bumped himself down to the second line with me tonight. He had a nice assist tonight; I won the faceoff back to him at the top of the circle, our winger went towards the slot and Vlad hit him with a nice pass and he buried it top shelf.

We weren't on the ice for a goal against until our last shift. I had a one on one and I pulled up and somehow the defenders stick goes between my legs and I get taken out. I think it was a penalty, I'll let Vlad make the call. Anyway they take the puck and go down and score as I'm sitting on the ice giving the ref a few choice words

We ended up winning 6-3

It was a penalty 100%.

Legs and feet (and lungs) are coming back. I think I’ve got 6 points (3g, 3a) to start the season.

I’m honestly more interested in this than the Flyers. Haven’t watched a game in a month, but I’d watch y’all!

People quickly forget how bad Fedotov looked.
Kolosov isn't better, he's just younger.

Kings are really hard to beat on their home ice, outside of a couple players, they basically just pound you all night until you wear down, the hockey equivalent of the Eagles offensive line. Nothing fancy, dump it in, run the cycle, hit everyone along the boards all night until you surrender.

Flyers blew a number of chances but give them credit for creating chances against a team that's really stingy, they force you outside and beat up anyone who dares to go in front of the net.

Michkov looked like he found the white pill stash in the trainer's closet. Half dead last night, suddenly ready to take the truck on the road for six days.

Cates had a great game, but it was tough sledding for most of the smaller forwards.
Laughton seemed to work better with Frost/Michkov, at least for one game.
Couts just isn't a top 6 center anymore, he's dragging down TK and Tippett. He's not even good defensively anymore. Really need to move him to LW but they don't have a replacement.
Sanheim had such a great start but has looked ordinary lately, is he dinged?

This is last season redux, when they get average or better goaltending they look like a PO team, when they get dreck, they look like a bottom five team.

Please, let's make a separate OT thread for this, I'd love reading further updates [: (No sarcasm)

We’ll make our own…which reminds me @DancingPanther what ever happened to the Jainter thread?
Haven't ripped the show man, didn't get it this year.

I did play NCAA a bit, maybe Tainter will make a run at the Heisman.

My 3 roller sessions are starting up again soon, I could probably contribute to a league updates thread...but without the fun of playing with a fellow HFer

That I know of

Cates didn't have a great game, he was good, not great. Frost was their best center in the game. Couturier did not have a good game but he still belonged out there in the 2nd half of the 3rd period. Typical Tortorella nonsense. Sit back passively in the 3rd with a lead, block shots and hope the goaltending bails you out. What a dinosaur of a coach. They haven't looked like a playoff team all season.

They do not look like a playoff team with better goaltending, they look like a garbage team getting bailed by their goalie. The Anaheim game just happened. It's fresh memory.

they got good goaltending against the ducks. And yet...did not look remotely playoffy. Which isn't great because the standard for playoffs is "mediocre" and they can't manage it with any consistency.

It's also super funny to hear Cates get gushed about with zero mention of the other certain center who had a better xGF% (I remember when you preached that metric as a religion)

4th liner hits a hot streak thanks to work chiefly by linemates, gotta get thrilled. The Flyers way.
The deal with Cates is that he can go out and play and his team will score the majority of goals when he is on the ice, which is great. Its mostly strong defensively play. If he can continue to chip in offense, then he can be a 3C. If not, then he is a strong 4C or a 3rd line winger. The issue is that Tortorella will play the crap out of a player like that. He loves to elevate and favor role players. That is his philosophy. Over play checkers and grinders. Defend and block shots and hope the goalie plays well. With just enough of a sprinkling of skill players to score

The Cates line is the only line that is playing consistently well.

Laughton - Frost - Michkov looked good, but if they click, do you refrain from moving Laughton to better evaluate Frost and support Michkov?

And what the heck do you do with Couts? Who is a good fit with this version?

Tippet seems to drag down whoever he plays with. His game is to get the puck and use his speed to generate a shot -- no passing. Most of the time he ignores his linemates. Why not play him on the fourth line with 2 nobodies. Cancelling out Hathaway and Poehling is far better than Frost/Mickov or Couturier/TK....

Crazy idea I know

Tippett and TK pass too much these days, forcing passes instead of taking the good shot and creating rebounds. Tippett is a good passer, he's just not that good at anticipating the open teammate.

Tippett "forces" plays usually b/c he's taking a turnover and entering the O-zone, and his linemates are slow to react, leaving him with few options. He doesn't have great vision, but he's also better at O-zone entries than any center on the team. TK does the same thing, Tippett is just better at it b/c when he dumps the puck ahead and chases, almost impossible to stop him without blatant interference. He makes some bone headed plays, especially in his D-zone, but on a team without top centers, he's one of the few forwards that can create on his own.

That's the kind of talk that will exclude you from ever being coach of the Flyers. Makes too much sense

That is the limitation to Tippett's game and why he is likely never going to be more than 25-30 goal scorer. He does not know how to work off of teammates. How to work into soft areas of the coverage to get open for chances. It's all one on one plays, driving down the wing and individual effort. Further compounded by the Flyers coaching staff complete inability to coach offensive play. To install offensive structure and attack systems. The Foegele break away goal in the Kings game last night is the perfect example. All 3 forwards on the same side of the ice. One forward goes to the front of the net, which is fine but Tippett is along the near wall. Konecny skates the puck up high and drops off to Zamula then Konecny takes a skate out to the neutral zone. Zamula has the puck and has basically no option offensively. There is no option in the middle of the ice, nobody on the far side of the ice to move the defense and create a shooting angle. No shooting lane to the net. There is zero balance making it very easy to defend. Zamula would've been better off just dumping into the empty corner but instead tries to go D to D but Konecny intercepts who then makes the ill advised behind the back pass. Just awful spacing and design that shows how poorly they are coached offensively.

Last night (not sure about other nights), that line was playing well but sure as hell didn't look like Cates was the one driving it.
