I think the OP makes a reasonable point. From a marketing perspective, the NHL isn't as opportunistic as it could be.

They could have played up that match-up more, and why not? What is there to lose?

After the NHL left ESPN in America and their hockey coverage turned pathetic, I realized these aren't news media efforts, but marketing efforts, created for the purpose of promoting their programming.

It's only gotten worse since then on all networks, now that the advertising revenue in traditional media is shrinking.
Its still a lot of money in advertising

Fully aware of that. Probably could be paused for 1 friggin night when the 2 best teams in the league play each other.

Probably a function of the season being so long such that individual games are inherently watered-down except for local coverage. Unlike the NFL where a mid-season big game can decide playoff position because they have so few games, with the NHL a "big game" is just another two points in a mid-season game in a very long season that will be utterly forgotten by the end of the week and which may ultimately affect nothing, i.e., is the two points from beating the Oilers really any more important than if the Leafs had beat the Ducks instead?

I think media in general can be very biased. I don't think it is just a Canadian thing.
The US hockey media does it all the time...inundating us with things about the Rangers (despite that being a flaming crap show....and before that, horrifically overrated, or all these stupid Colorado Avalanche trade options that all favor the Avs while they don't seem to give up much, etc, etc.

It's humorous how you first accused the media of being 'biased' before proceeding to demonstrate your own personal bias by insisting on using emotionally-charged, hyperbolic language like 'flaming crap show' and 'horrifically overrated' to describe an NHL organization. The definition of horrific is 'causing fear or dread or terror' - are you seriously experiencing fear, dread, or terror over an NHL team being 'overrated'? If you're not - then you should realize that you mischaracterized the circumstances you referenced because of your own inherently 'biased' perspective.

There never seems to be any common sense when doing up their proposed schedules at the beginning of each season. They need to set their schedules, and then during the season take a game like Was-Winnipeg and simply just add it to their schedules.............take out another game in it's place so to speak.

These two networks are TO centric and biased of course, we get that...........but come on boys use some common sense too.
There are games on almost every single night..............do better TSN and Sportsnet.

Anybody that complains about media coverage of hockey in canada should be forced to watch an entire season of avalanche tv games with a heavy side order of jim fox doing color on kings games.
I have center ice in the states and will watch canada on canada games over the absolute crap foisted off on us in the usa as professional coverage.
Also espn RUINS every sport it touches

They essentially do in the playoffs. The media bends over backwards to pander to whatever shitty Canadian team is left, and when it's all American teams remaining you can tell the wind is out of their sails
Kind of like a lot of fans of hockey in Canada though, it works both ways.

I wish they never got rid of the NHL network. I used to like their coverage of the night's games. They treated every team equally.

In football each game has much more weight. 1 nfl ganes=5 nhl games. Wgat happens if your team is going 2-5 or worse?

I gree up in buffalo and got toronto networks and radio stations locally. I'm familiar with things. It's always been Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, others.

Why d ok es Toronto get to play at 7 ET on hnic when on western trip? They should be at 10pm.

hockey gas as lo evrl of unpredictability when you get iij n tu o Feb-April and who is in CV ontrmtion

The states are pick hames for tv before th err season. It wou ln d be better if they had more flexibility in choosing gsmes.

For example, for tnt the league designated a game onbtursday and Thursday that could be moved to Wednesday as a feature game. Hnic dies something similar for saturday early game.

Well, I'm glad you found humor in my post.

But it stands.
I'm not the media. I, like you, am just a poster on a message board, who doesn't need to be held accountable to the public for trying to pass things off as news, or be 'professional' about reporting anything.

Rangers are overrated......horrifically.
It's called hyperbole....I thought you understood what that meant since you used it in your post, but apparently not.

Nice flex try though. You'll get better.

I'm not the media.

It would be hypocritical for individuals with a biased mindset on this topic to complain about other individuals on the basis of their having a biased mindset on this topic - would it not?

So I correctly characterized your post as being hyperbolic - you responded by acknowledging that it was in fact hyperbole, then you proceed to accuse me of not knowing what hyperbole is??? Holy gaslighting.

Take care.

Nope.
Flex still not good enough.
Your post arms are built like pipe cleaners."
Give it a rest.

That TSN bias. Play was reviewed, Wood dragged his stick along Karlsson's pants, and he went down like he got shanked. Reviewed deemed it a 2 min slash, yet TSN gonna TSN. Like this is on the TSN front page, barely have to scroll down to see. Making it a bigger deal when it was nothing.
