The most thread-worthy thing from that video is the Leafs reaction to it. Nobody even gives him a face wash. The biggest reaction is by the goalie who puts his stick up in the air to call for a penalty. And Tavares himself, who it looks like is scared to make eye contact with Bennett and might say "ouch"

14 seconds to go in a 1-goal game that means something, so no, I'm not angry that none of his teammates rushed in there.

However, once the final whistle went somebody should have gone after Bennett. Good news is they play again Tuesday so let's see if there's a response then. Not optimistic but we'll see.

I don’t disagree that it looks super intentional. It’s just… imagine cheap shotting someone and just kind of standing there making small talk with them afterwards. And the guy kind of gives you a medium-annoyed look like you’d give someone who’s driving the speed limit in the left lane.

It just feels like we’re missing something. The reactions don’t match the appearance of a deliberate act.

For one it didn't happen to the captain. For two, good chance no one saw it on the ice because calling the Leafs soft or saying they don't stand up for each other is nonsense to anyone with eyeballs. That criticism is at least 3 seasons out of date.

There's no winning with some of these guys lol. It's a 1 goal game, you're defending a lead, faceoff in your own end, 14 seconds left and not to mention none of the other 4 skaters saw what happened as the puck was going to the sideboards.

But it honestly blows my mind how often this dirtbag makes plays like that without being penalized, I don't think there's a dirtier player in the league than this guy right now. If the refs did their jobs he'd probably be sitting in the pressbox for being a complete idiot and taking a penalty on every other shift.

So the fact that the refs let it go is ok? It's a trip at the least. Call it. Clean the game up. If guys want to fight fine. If guys have the skill to deliver a big hit within the rules, great. But the hits to the back and the cross checking and the holding and interference that go uncalled just slow the game down and cheapen the product. I'm not sure if the refs as a group decide how the games will be called or if the league talks to them about it. Clearly the players are ok with this sort of thing so it's hard to get worked up about it if the players themselves don't care.
