Honesetly surprising Bedard isn't a super explosive skater, players with his height and build usually are. But yea he could definitely use just a little more speed, especially when time and space shrinks in the playoffs and teams get away with more and more obstruction

He was one of our worst skaters this year, IMO. Not only lacking speed, but wasn't strong on his skates and takes wide turns. Like the poster above me stated, it's surprising given his build - he's obviously got muscle.

On the other hand he's still so boyish (even for a teenager), which further speaks to his potential. Very encouraging he's aware he needs to improve his skating as well as his defense.

Which forwards with regular playing time are worse skaters than CB? On D, Seth and Vlasic are better.

Bedard is 18. He is and will be a star. Those old enough to remember Guy Lafleur's first few years should know he struggled. I can recall he was on his butt so much thought he too couldn't skate. We know how that turned out.

Wikipedia: "During his first three seasons, Lafleur struggled to live up to expectations in the league as he posted average statistics—"

Early candidate for worst post of 2024.

The first few months he was a Hawk, many here talked about it like it was a forgone conclusion. But just because the guy is an elite talent, it doesn't automatically make him captain material.
And let's not forget the draft. If (fingers crossed) Chicago wins lotto again and get Celebrini he may get and want the C?

Agree with all of those except Vlasic. Vlasic could absolutely beat Bedard in a foot race.
Nah

Top Speed:
Bedard: 22.73mph (73percentile of forwards)
Vlasic: 22.58mph (68percentile of Dmen)

Speed Bursts over 20mph
Bedard: 102 (71percentile of forwards)
Vlasic: 56 (below 50% for Dmen)

So Bedard is not only the quicker straight line skater, he is better on his edges, and at accelerating.

Not saying Vlasic is a bad skater by any means, but Bedard is getting underrated almost, when it comes to his skating.

Yeah, I think that Vlasic's skating just looks easier/smoother/more effortless, which may be why people think he's a better skater. Bedard is clearly better.

Bedard is a fantastic skater, and I'm not sure how someone can actually say he is bad. It's a terrible take.

I stand corrected. Interesting. Although part of me thinks that Vlasic is so good positionally and so smooth that he has less instances where he needs to really motor.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Bedard’s skating. It’ll look even better when he finally has talent out there with him opening up some ice.

That seems to match the eye test pretty damn well. I'm assuming we don't have any data on Nazar because he only played a few games?

That is interesting, especially AA being 4th. Either he's lost a half step or the injury effected his stride this season. Wasn't he over 24 mph last season?
