A lot of people have used this brilliant gif without realizing where it’s from, let alone watching the show. (It deserves more praise, IMO.) That scene was crazy when it happened in the show too, haha

Seconded. I stumbled on this show on Netflix during Covid and my god is it hilarious. I've rewatched it 3 or 4 times already (typical British show with like 6 episodes a season and the last "season" is 1 episode haha)

Younger crowd with better musical tastes is my guess.

Classic-rock/Grunge era gen-X-er here. I didn't fully appreciate the Beatles until my kids came along (they are 6-8). It is pretty remarkable to see how quickly they took to the Beatles (and Bob Marley, as an aside)... and I've heard that quite a bit.

Something about the Beatles just gets them grooving and in a good mood, whereas most of what I like best these days (War on Drugs as an example) makes them irritable within minutes.

My son (6), strangely, once picked out a Beatles song he'd never heard before (on an album we haven't streamed) even though it was a cover. I just have no idea how that happened.

Aside from the sitcom debate (Seinfeld would be a good choice), I would pick music over TV. I am not the biggest Beatles fan but would enjoy music more.

I often wanted to ask. I was not familiar with it. Thats up there with Monty Python money shots. I'd rather take the elevator but how many times have how many of us just wanted to exit a company board meeting and never come back. I can appreciate the sentiment even more now. Will have to try to view that but I don't think its easily available here. Not sure who carries it.

Hey @Cloned we need a new poll for us older guys (and gals too and anyone watching reruns on TV I guess)…

Ginger or
MaryAnne

For the record, I was always partial to MaryAnne, just something about her wholesomeness got my motor revving.😀
Married to Mary Anne but fooling around with Ginger!

I think it's on Netflicks. If you do find it, it will be well worth your time. Freaking hilarious and really pokes fun at people, computers and geeks.

I think that you'd have to split this poll by age and demographics. I can see someone born in the late 90s in Canada or somewhere outside the US northeast having no ability to connect to Seinfeld. I can also see someone born in the late 90s never connecting with the Beatles. That said, I'm not sure why these two things warrant comparison they are separated by eons of time in terms of someone's life.
The OP is a bit random like that. The next poll could be anything. Where it stops you never know. I was going to guess but then it would be used as the next poll. ;)

My kids, who are all in their 20's now, all grew up with the Beatles (and so many other artists of the 60's and 70's)that it's part of their musical repitoire and memories.

And to hear all those great tunes show up in the odd commercial here and there, reinforces it for them, but also provides a wonderful gateway to others who have never heard the music before and can discover it and enjoy it just as their parents and grandparents did.

I'll try to get it at the Library. I'm too cheap for Netflix. Actually I don't want to be addicted to watching too much stuff probably. Would be nice of programs weren't just all in one box now, and you have to buy that box. I'll probably find another way to watch.

Kind of bugs me too that Disney Channel, Apple etc, all these channels I want nothing to do with and won't support in any way. Other than buying programs outright in DVD or Bluray you have to subscribe to see them.

according to our Finance Minister last week, your to old for Disney+ anyhow, and should cancel it so you can afford to buy a loaf of bread or heat your house.

The library should have it. Aside from some scratched up discs because of careless asshats, I’ve found it to be a good source if I’m not able to find something on streaming, which is hilariously possible at times despite all of the streaming options.

EPL have 3 seasons and the Internet season. Not the first season. Apparently that season was better and people kept those. It might be available on Kanopy.

That’s odd. I thought they usually buy some the copies they have but I could be wrong. Never seen them not have a season of a show like that

Indeed as I stated it would be because some borrowers either lost, kept, or damaged the content. The 3 seasons they have are on limited supply so just a few strikes would render a selection being unavailable. Library often has difficulty restocking or deciding what to restock. Good luck if anything at all is considered offensive to some in zeitgeist times were locked in. Many materials comes with warning tags. I wish I was making it up. Librarians here have a series of warning stickers to put on great literature these days. I mentioned a couple times I'm opposed to seeing the tags. Odd that somebody in the professional capacity of a Librarian is not overwhelmed with the irony of the censoring action but a little OT...;)

Warning labels? Lol. I don’t use the library much, haven’t noticed that. Must be new

I wonder if the furnaces have book sized openings? :sarcasm:

Seinfeld for me. My favourite show at the time it was out.

Beatles are good, but I always found them to be overrated.

Now if the poll was “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” or Black Sabbath, that becomes a lot tougher for me.

Thanks

Aside: I don't understand the complaint in the final paragraph. Disney, Apple+, etc... these are all a-la-carte options you can choose to stream or not. Paying $10-15/month for each of these is far more consumer choice than we all had when we had to increase our cable bill from $150 to $225 just to get a package that included NHL Network or HBO or [insert that one channel you wanted access to, but instead had to pay for 200+ channels just to get it].

It isn't perfect, but if you cut your cable subscription and stick with internet only, you can build your TV access in ways that get you 90% of what you want for about 50% of what you paid before.

Maybe you still have cable, in which case I can see why paying on top of that for the premium streaming services would seem like a bridge too far... the new model only works if you cut the cord so to speak.

I'm in the states now, so maybe its easier for me, but $50 for high-speed + one bundled subscription to ESPN+/Disney/Hulu for $15/month gets me nearly every Oiler game, more kids stuff than necessary and a hodge podge of goop on Hulu. If a must watch drama come along on HBO, Netflix or Apple+ I can add those on a month by month basis.

My reaction to Disney and Apple is that I abhor those companies and refuse to support them for reasons I won't get into. But Yeah, my wife likes Cable and so we still have it and it would be a matter of paying over and above. We;re locked into our present contract for another 9mths and then I'll make changes to go with a more basic cable setup.

In anycase we're clearly seeing fracturing of the streaming marketplace. Used to be people only had to subscribe to Netflix. Now its several services if you want most of access and that number of new streaming players only seems to be increasing while the pie of sought after programming is increasingly sliced up among the bidding providers. The end game on that, and its already there, is it isn't cheaper than Cable. I was only paying around 80 bucks for the full meal deal cable including the movie channels, Crave, HBO and such.

In anycase just made a brief list of streaming options that would cost around 100bucks/mth to get comparable offerings.

Netflix 21 bucks
Paramount 6
Prime 15
Disney 12
Apple 9
Crave 10
tsn 20 bucks on monthly 10bucks/mth annual
Snet 15

So I don't see how this is really saving all that much. Nor would I watch enough programming to justify but I do watch Crave, and Sports.

Well I've gotten laid more dancing with a chick to the beatles than I have quoting seinfeld, but because I'm by myself I'll go with seinfeld.

At least there would be some women to look at watching a show instead of picturing guys with bowl haircuts

Could never get into the Beatles. I do believe both them and Seinfeld didn't age that great compared to what they were in their time.

I like some Beatles covers though. There's some metal ones

You can only have one.

Edit: I'll elaborate. You're stranded on a deserted island for 5 years. You have access to the Beatles anthology or every season Seinfeld. That is the only media you have access to. Nothing else. What would you choose?

Seinfeld because I think human connection, and being able to see and hear everyday humans, would be a lot more important when stranded alone on an island.

Otherwise, Beatles.
