Most sitcoms / TV comedies are pretty forgettable or have some funny moments at best. Of the ones I’ve seen that come to mind immediately I’d probably put them in this sort of tiers (not putting in animation because I’m lazy and most of them run too long to consider as one show: ex golden age Simpsons > pretty much anything on this list anyhow but after that is mostly rubbish)

S

Silicon Valley
Curb Your Enthusiasm

A

Seinfeld
Faulty Towers

B

Married with Children
Arrested Development (overrated as hell, flame away)
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
IT Crowd
Are You Being Served?
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Chapelle’s Show
Mythic Quest (only watched the first season, “A Dark Quiet Death” is one of the best episodes of TV, period. Not a comedy episode)

C

Malcolm in the Middle
That 70’s Show
Frasier (yeah, probably low for some, idc)
Parks and Rec
30 Rock
The Office (never seen the UK one but imagine it’s better)
Home Improvement (actually underrated for what it is)
Community
Scrubs
Newsradio
Everybody Hates Chris
3rd Rock from the Sun
The Drew Carey Show
My Name is Earl
Boy Meets World
Just Shoot Me

D

Friends
Everybody Loves Raymond
Modern Family
The King of Queens
The Middle
Full House
Family Matters
…many others that I’m too lazy to look up / don’t remember

F

Big Bang Theory
Two and a Half Men
…And most other sitcoms I’ve seen and can’t remember

A caveat that I haven’t really seen any from before the mid 80s aside from the few listed on here
This is a damn good tier list.

Brit Comedy I've always felt is the gold Standard. Historically whether that be Monty Python (and theres nothing like it ever and it has to be the best comedy ever made) Fawlty Towers along with it for gold standard.

But others in no particular order:

The Young Ones
Royle Family (has nothing to do with royals)
Absolutely Fabulous
Rising Damp
Mr Bean
Spitting Image
The Two Ronnies
Not the 9 O clock News
French and Saunders
Black Books
Black Adder
Father Ted
Bottom
Friday Night Dinner
Inbetweeners

Then a lot of the Britcoms that got reinvented in US such as
Steptoe and Son'
The Office
Man about the House
Till Death do us part.

I'm probably forgetting a lot, theres so many. Always loved Brit comedy, keep going back to it. A zaniness that you don't often see in US formulaic comedy.

In terms of comedy I've always felt I live on the wrong continent. I would trade brit comedy programming for almost anything here. My favorite US comedies of all time would be All in the Family, MASH, Happy Days(first seasons), The Office, Seinfeld. That said I take the Beatles over Seinfeld any time.

Let it Be bud…😂

That is the one Beatles song I don’t mind but still usually I don’t get to the end.

Would be so much better if it were done by Black Sabbath or an uptempo Green Day version.

Seriously I recognize the Beatles greatness and song writing along with their place in history but never developed a taste for their sound.

Motley Crüe’s cover of ‘Helter Skelter’ is superior to the original. (Yes, I know it’s a tribute)

Some Beatles dark works I always felt could easily be metal adapted. Among many.

This song really builds and part of a fantastic album. If this song was recorded by Led Zep it would be nine minutes long, Crowley references and two Guitar solos. But as a Beatles forgotten track it skims below the surface

This song so dark, A track that basically spawned musical forms its so good. Again one has to listen to the song development

The obvious Beatles metal song

Many of the successful and beloved American comedies are direct knockoffs of the British sit-coms. Threes Company and the Office owe their roots to their earlier British counterparts.

BTW, Blackadder and Rising Damp (starring the incomparable Leonard Rossiter and the young Richard Beckinsale, daddy of the hottie Kate), and the are 2 incredibly funny and well developed British comedies. I'll throw in "Chef"(starring the amazing Lenny Henry), "Coupling", "To the Manor Born", "Good Neigbours" amd "Fawlty Towers" as more classics.

Thanks!

I wish more people would watch Silicon Valley. I never expected it to be as good as it is. Mike Judge’s best work by far, IMO. Credit to the co-creator’s (even if it turned out differently - better - than they originally wanted). Also credit to one of comedy’s great writers in Alec Berg (and his team) and superb casting.

I’ll shill for this show any day

No problem with your own taste being different, as long as you recognize them as the greatest band in the history of modern music, with possibly the top songwriters of the 20th century. Not to mention the most influencial.

This Is a great list. The 2 Ronnie’s, Spitting Image were favourites. I loved Fawlty Towers and of course Monty Python too, although MP was a sketch show and not a sitcom. (I put Benny Hill in that group too of must watch British sketch comedy TV). Just some absolute greats on your list.

Yep. I mentioned the Brit comedies that became US spins as well as the classic Fawlty Towers. I'll have to try some of the others you mentioned.

Two of my favourite all time albums. "Birthday" and "Yer Blues"could easily be metaled up. "Oh Darling" showcases Macca's incredible vocal range and power.

They’re all of those, but in the most important either-or discussion, it’s Stones over Beatles, 1000% of the time.

Come at me, imma man.

Chef has the same sarcastic witty retorts that Bladadder has. The main character is just as acerbic as Rowan Atkinson. Nobody does witty and clever dialogue like the Brits. Americans, on the other hand, love their physical type of humour best.

Stones have them in longevity, I'll grant you that. I think they have everyone in that category, actually, lol. Love the Stones, but for a 10 year period of artistic invention, no one comes close to the Beatles. and the reverberations and implications are still felt nearly 60 years after their demise.

I was gonna put some of those on but you can only link 3 videos at a time. The interesting thing is 1966-70 the Beatles were showing the world so many new musical forms, they could do anything. Cover to cover must listens, no filler.

She came in through the Bedroom window and "The End" are two other rockers. By Abbeys Road the Beatles were writing 50 songs at a time that could be on Albums. Just showing off their creativity and filled the cupboard for all of John, Paul, Ringo, George solo material for decades to come.

Everything you say is true. I like them both, one just a bit more than the other. They’re not my kids, so I can honestly say this.

The original Office, and Extras, are awesome. Gervais is excellent, imo.

Nothing against the Beatles, but I'd take Seinfeld.

Based largely on the amount of stimulation measured in hours. The Beatles in their entirety would amount to around 10 hours of stimulation before repeating. Seinfeld would provide over 7X that.

Plus, if I'm on a deserted island for 5 years I feel as though a bit of "visual stimulation" would go a long ways towards breaking the monotony.....Even if she had man hands.

Thankfully I’m not stuck on a deserted island with them playing for five years.

That sounds like something they’d do at Guantanamo Bay.
No, clearly they used Madonna there. Oh the horror! Make it stop, make it stop. Worse than the Spanish inquisition.

This is hell; Clearly she's the antichrist.
