He likely won't be but

He should be in conversation.

He was being bullied early in the season, so there is no way he'll get a nod over players who have been good the entire season (like Witherspoon who's rocking a freakish 81.4 PFF grade as a rookie, including 5.5 yards/target, 3 sacks, etc.), but his play in the second half has been great, which is a great sign for next season.

Just need to sign or tag JJ.

I don't see why the Cards would want to trade up, but there are no limitations from a cap perspective. #4+17 would add ~$2M to the cap for 2024 compared to #1.
You can easily view what players in the past year signed for based on their draft position to see how the numbers shake down.

But, if the draft order remains as is, I Agree that I also don't see why AZ would trade up as they have holes on their roster and have a QB. Think they go WR with their pick (MHJ) and can go defence and grab another OT to give them bookend OT to protect Murray with Houston's 1st and their own 2nd. Get 1 side of the ball taken care of first, then work on the other side.

If AZ was in position to draft a QB, then they would consider moving Murray and eating the big dead cap, but I don't see them giving up additional assets to move up.

Having better players on Oline/Dline besides you goes a long way. Just like hockey, individual grades and all need that.

I think Wright may if declined from the upward path he was at after Jenkins moved to LG. He still had a strong rookie year, very good movement both blocking. He battled injuries, he wasn't using 1 arm when blocking Sweat in Washington before the trade. Sweat got a sack and a half, but if you watch It you'll see Wright only was using 1 arm.

He’s been playing through a shoulder injury for like 6 weeks

Yeah.. he is a good run blocker. But his pass blocking has left some to be desired. Some of it on tape is more miscommunication than anything. Also he tends to give up on some plays.

All of the bears pass blocking numbers look terrible because they have a qb that won’t throw the ball

It’s hard to downgrade from fields. He’s going to end the year with less than 2600 passing yards. Trubisky had over 3200 twice in his first 3 hears

Regardless of which team Williams ends up on next year I’ll bet you he throws for more yards in year 1 than fields does this year
Fields had a #1 receiver and Mooney who is a r or 5 on a good team. Running backs who aren’t threats as receivers. A center who shouldn’t be playing and a terrible OC. I’m amazed he got over 2500 yards.

This is the frustrating thing about having this conversation though, is because media (THAT LITERALLY PLAYED IN THE NFL) will just say whatever they want.

Here is the site that you can use to view some of this data. EPA per play.. it correlates.

Here is the top 10 in Offense EPA/Play.. see any bad offenses there??

ESPN talking heads are absurd talking about Justin Fields all of a sudden

Talking about how Bears should not draft QB because Fields is All-Pro talent who has shown exemplary leadership and is playing great turning around Bears

WTF are they talking about?

Before game vs Falcons the previous two weeks he was shit including awful vs Browns

The Bears turn around is entirely on improved D in 2nd half of season not on Fields

I mean.. you can make up any stat you want if... if the results on the field over a large sample size seem to be correlating.. then maybe its a good predictor of success lol.

Talking heads are just that. Just dumb ass flaming opinions straight out their mouth.
ESPN is a cesspool now. Just look at Kendrick Perkins thoughts on nikola jokic winning the mvp.

Why are you complaining? Let them help drive his trade value up.

So, what does everyone want at this point

I think the scenario I most want is.

- Small trade down from #1
- Draft Daniels with pick we swap out for #1
- Draft one of Nabers/Coleman/Odunze with Bears pick
- Trade Fields for pick

What is your definition of a small trade down? Assuming top 7 draft order remains the same (as the Jets play NE, thus if Jets win they will draft later than 8).

Does NE covet either Williams/Maye to get in front of Wash? That to me is a small trade down. Treat it like you are netting out what Mia did from 3 to 12 then up to 6 to get Waddle that year. Ended up with 1 extra 1st round pick.
Above makes sense, if you want first shot at any non QB player, then you don't trade behind AZ at 4.

If you are ok with passing up any of Harrison JR, Fashuma, Alt (the top WR and the 2 OT), then you can go back further from the Giants at 5 onwards to get a Haul. The edge rushers from UCLA, FSU, Alabama will begin coming off the board closer to 8-10 and gone by the early teens.

Does it really make sense to keep Fields and draft a QB in round 1? I guess you can, but I think it's better to pull off the bandaid and commit one way or the other.

If everything remains as is, I see the draft going:
1) Williams/Maye (Bears or a trade up)
2) Was takes Williams/Maye
3) NE takes Daniels (or they trade up if they covet one of the other 2 guys). Chicago in this spot takes MHJ
4) AZ take Harrison JR (if he's off the board, take OT and bookend the tackles for Murray). Get WR with Houston's pick, since he doesn't like to get hit).
5) NYG I fear 2 ACL Penix on that MetLife turf, so they take Fashuma since Neal looks terrible at OT. (If Daniels fall to them, they take him)
6) LAC - Alt, bookend the OL for Herbert.
7) Ten - Ozdume, weapon for Levis.

6/7 can flip players, but I think that's how the top 7 shake down. From what I have seen online these 2 OT grade behind Sewell but well ahead of the trio in 2022 and ahead of Johnston from OSU.

What happens first...... Poles trading of Fields or Poles trading of the #1 pick ? Free Agency starts Mar 13, draft on Apr 25 and 5th year extensions due May 2.
Last year Poles traded #1 on Mar 10. Teams like to have some idea of their 2024 personnel prior to draft and during FA so that they have a better idea of team needs when going into the draft. I go back-n-forth on when (or if) is the best time to trade Fields.

All major personnel decisions like HC and OC/DC made before free agency for NFL teams.

See which teams are content with a Vet placeholder vs try for a young kid, so who knows about trades before free agency begins.

Aside from Cousins, all of the other vets likely not worth it to hope for as a bridge guy like Tanny, Jimmy G, etc.

If they move Fields, I think it's after free agency but before the draft. Would be to those teams after #10. I don't think teams should be afraid of the knees for Penix, unless you play at Metlife with that god awful turf.

Alex Smith - yet another that thinks the Bears should consider keeping Fields.

Fields is 0-5 against the Packers. He may be playing for his job. Or maybe that's decided already. Blow their asses out to put a nice stamp on this season!

This is a fun time to be a Bears fan. It's nice to be able to say that for a change.

Interesting. I feel like a high ceiling QB would be able to transcend the multiple coaches, adversity, etc. Fields is lovable loser and, unfortunately Chicago loves those types of guys.

Alex Smith was a #1 and couldn't do that. He's just relating to that
