It's not about the Bears, it's about whichever QB needy team jumping Houston to get their guy.
Each QB needy team has to assess how good they think these QBs will be and whether they are worth it. Without the off field stuff Watson was worth the additional 4OA pick in Ward they surrendered the following season. Same goes for Mahomes and the 2 extra 2nds and all of those extra trades Buf made to move CB Darby and an OT to get the extra picks and move higher in the draft for Allen.

Has Fields so far been worth OT Neal that they had to part with to trade up? Same goes for the extra 3 seconds that the Jets paid for Darnold.

Better be sure otherwise it sets your team back multiple years.

Anybody know when Poles is going to address the media today? I had thought it was supposed to be 10am, but that clearly didn't happen.

This is the other thing: If the GM is wrong about the QB, then it's the next guy's mess to clean up anyway.
GMs without great QBs get fired in 5-6 seasons.

As we've seen QBs are a crapshoot anyway. If they weren't, Tom Brady would have been the first overall pick and not been passed on by most teams 5-6 times.

Gotta pull the lever and hope you roll jackpot.

It’s a safer bet that your QB ends up in the tier or
Group with Dak, Cousins, Tanny, Carr, etc than the few elite like Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, and very close Herbert and Lawrence to that group. Jackson and Hurts can hurt you with their legs. Passing could be better which imo puts them not quite into the elite group.

I don’t see Sea or Det trading up. Not sure I’d bet either QB will be much of an upgrade over Goff and Smith.

The first round QBs on rookie deals including 5th year option guys going back to Baker’s year we have:

Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Jackson
Murray, Jones, Haskins
Burrow, Tua, Herbert, Love
Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Fields, Jones
Pickett

Agreed.

I think being 2nd tier as a passer and having above average to elite mobility can make up for not being 1st tier and quite honestly that's what I think will happen with Fields.

Best case is fields plays the way Hurts has but Philly has both an excellent OL and weapons in Smith, Brown, Sanders and Goedert. I think only Kmet is close to his position rival of Goedert. Eagles WR and OL much better.

So fields can’t do it alone. But I feel that the coaching Hurts is getting is better as well.

I never said Fields can't be an elite tier QB. I think it's a safe bet that he'll ascend to tier 2(with elite mobility) and it would be great if he was even better than that.

The mock trades I’m seeing on Twitter and breaking my brain. Some of the most unrealistic shit I’ve ever seen. People are going to pitch when poles trades from 1 to 7 and only gets a second, third, and future first

Scenario that makes a lot of sense is Indianapolis trading up from 4th to select their qb. Bears at 4 will still get one of Anderson/Carter, and should net an extra 2nd this year, and 1st+2nd next year.

Probably aren’t getting that much but irsay is insane so maybe. If it was 1 to 4 for this years 2nd and next years first I’d do it. If Anderson goes at 3 I’d look to trade 4 back to 8-10 and grab another future first and maybe swap seconds

I’d stay at 4 where they’d still get a guy that they would have taken at #1 anyway. It’s a major win to get thise extra high picks without having to drop a tier.
I’m not sold on either of the 2 defenders rated top 4. A lot of stat padding against lesser teams.
7 to 9 leaves great choices at OL, WR and edge.

It is in no way a safe bet that he gets to tier 2 in terms of throwing the ball.

He was the worst throwing QB in the league aside from the replacement-level QBs and Zach Wilson.

Yes, his supporting cast sucked, but so did he at throwing the ball.

It is possible for him to approach tier 2/3 because he does have arm talent. But his passing instincts seem poor.

Go look at his stats from weeks 8-16.

Not sure the Houston group with McNair/Caserio isn't just as wacky as Irsay. Houston and Indy are division rivals. So best case scenario is they both want the same QB and get in a bidding war trying to up one another for that 1st pick.

His second most throwing yards in a game in that span was 167 yards. Rookie Trubisky averaged 182 passing yards per game.

We were by far the worst passing team in the entire NFL. That certainly reflects poorly on the OLine and WR corps. But it also certainly reflects poorly on Justin Fields as a passer.

There’s only so many yards to be had in a game. Who cares how many yards are being thrown for when the bears are moving the ball and scoring 30+ points?
