Bears are officially #2 in draft spot now. Denver won the critical position spot game vs Arizona.

If they lose all 3 games, it's set. I think they'd leap to 4 if they win 1 as it stands now
If they win one more game the rest of the season, the worst they could finish is 4th. Given this is a top-4 heavy draft (Stroud, Young, Anderson, Carter), good place to be.

Yeah this is good news, especially with that Vikings game in the last week looming as a possible win.

And in news that is a longshot...you can't 100% rule out nabbing the #1 pick. The Texans in the last 2 weeks have nearly beaten the Cowboys and Chiefs. I'm not saying it's likely, because it's not. But they play the Titans, Jaguars and Colts to end the season. If they keep up the tough play, 2 wins out of there is possible.

My Bears takeaways
1. Hurts can run but Fields can flat out fly.
2. We need to somehow sign Montgomery. Not to monster money but we NEED him. Herbert is good, the other rookie has slid big time. Fields is finding 32 in the passing game.
3. What would it look like if we had a #11 Brown to throw to?
4. Jack Sanborn just knows how to play football
5. Our blitzers blow, like a youth hockey player playing defense after we've pulled the goalie. Please understand the concept, GET TO THE QB!
6. I don't miss Mack, Roquan or the injured left end

Removing Mack, Hicks, Smith and Quinn off the defense and not replacing them with top tier talent results in no QB pressure and the secondary hung out to dry - which even with a little moderate pressure against the Eagles resulted in the secondary playing pretty well and the Eagle's top two receivers getting 181 and 126 yards.

There are some players who seize opportunity and some that don't ... I put Velus and Leatherwood solidly in the don't category.

The Bears were in the slim and none position to win any of these last 3 games before the injuries yesterday but now that Jenkins, Sanborn, Jaylon Johnson and EQSB are probably not going to play for at least 1 if not all the rest of the games - they're in even worse shape to somehow sneak out a win.

There were only a couple bright spots yesterday - Fields, of course, but also Montgomery - I thought he had a very good game and with Herbert back next week it hopefully means we can see the 3-headed monster running game.

Oh and Velas Jones should drop his uni off at the dry cleaner, he won't be needing it anymore.

Right now the Bears have the 2nd pick. What position or player do you think they should take?

D-Line probably but a trade down is the dream scenario.
I don’t see Chicago likely to win another game this season given who they have to play.

At 2, they could take the best DL on the board be it Anderson the edge or Carter the DT. Could they trade back? Depends on how far and whether there is a QB that another team covets? Colts got 3 extra second rounders to go from 3 to 6 and let the jets get Darnold. Or they can maybe do what they did with the giants and get a 2024 first rounder. But what is the drop off from those 2 DL to the next batch of guys?

The OT from northwestern I’ve read that scouts are worried that his arm length isn’t ideal to play LT in the nfl. The prime positions to land via the draft outside of QB are DL, CB, LT, and a playmaker receiver. If it’s a TE like Kelce, Gronk, Kittle, etc the elite guy then it can be a TE. Otherwise it should be a WR.

Not LB, S, OG, RB.

So not sure what is available in the spots that teams like Carolina, Atlanta, Indy would draft that would be the right fit for the bears. Those are your teams that would covet a QB. Seattle could go either way on QB or DL. Same with Detroit. Both have QBs who are capable. Question is always do they get paid the right amount for what they bring? Goff counts $31 mill per year over the next 2. Geno, if he comes in at $25 mill per makes sense for Seattle.

Not sure if the QBs in this draft have any chance to be elite. Young I wonder about his size. Can he be like Brees? Stroud, nothing about him shouts Great. Levis has the tools, size, arm strength, athleticism. He needs refinement and work on his accuracy. Weaker program at Kentucky from a talent POV and playing in SEC so big time numbers not realistic compared to Young. But he played in a pro style offence.

See if a team falls in love with one of these guys to trade up.

Bears have lots of holes still, but need to make sure they fill in the key position ones with their picks.

Qb’s get over drafted every year. Dream scenario is someone wants to trade up and give the bears a shot load of picks to move up. If not take the best player available. The bears have so many holes any choice while it might be criticized it’s hard to be mad.

There’s like 4 elite QBs right now with Mahomes, Allen, Burrow and Rodgers (if he was more committed to work with his WR in the off season). With Herbert, Jackson, Hurts pushing to get into that group. Even with Brees, Brady, Peyton, younger Russ Wilson, Big Ben there’s only like 5 or so elite QBs at any one time in the nfl.

This crop of QBs doesn’t excite me to be honest.

Caleb Williams and Drake Maye should they both declare for 2024, they would have teams drooling.

That’s where teams need to be honest about what this crop are and what they can become. Which is why I think Detroit and Seattle will evaluate whether any of these guys can be better than Goff and Smith in 2-3 years time. If they don’t project that then there’s no real point in drafting one of these kids unless it’s for cap savings. Paying an average of $8-9 mill per for a rookie contract QB vs the $31 mill per for Goff over the next 2 seasons.

Qb’s get over drafted every year. Teams will be calling to move up. Coaches and gm’s get fired easily and owners like shiny new things. Doesn’t mean the bears will trade down but their will be calls to move up.

Chicago is probably the most willing team to trade down farther in the draft than say Seattle or Detroit, despite them having an extra first rounder. I think both clubs are right near turning the corner and will be eying a quality impact player at a need position. For Seattle, that is DT, which I would think is the same for Detroit or another Edge opposite Hutch giving one of them a 1 on 1 opportunity on each pass snap.

Giants got an extra 1st to drop from pick #11. Bears should get a heckuva lot more to drop from #2.

Going to depend on whether those teams behind them truly like the QBs in this draft. Richardson is a raw project with a year of experience. Teams at the 6-9 spot would take him there. Teams would have to covet the likes of stroud, Young or Levis to move up to grab them. But imo, all 3 have question marks.

But up to each team to decide for themselves what is worth it. It’s a game of chicken for those teams and whether they believe one of the other clubs is trying to move up there to get the guy they want. they know Chicago isn’t taking a QB there. But another team maybe calling Chicago to deal.

I think the Georgia - Ohio State bowl game will go a long way to either help or hurt the NFL projection of CJ Stroud which could affect the Bears options with their top pick. If Stroud plays a great game against the Georgia defense - then that probably elevates him in the eyes of the teams looking to draft a QB - which would help the Bears in having options to trade down. Young is probably more set in the eyes of NFL team - he has everything except height and that won't change - so either a team looks past the height and drafts him to be their franchise QB or decides he won't make it in the NFL at that height - in other words their mind on him is already made up.

I've seen Stroud play 2 or 3 games this season and my opinion is he's not top-10 value. Hope he has a great bowl game and changes my mind, and the assessment of pro talent evaluators rises.

Which is one reason I'm not 100% convinced Houston would pick a QB at #1. They could look to trade back or maybe even take Carter/Anderson, figuring to stick with Mills for a year and try to get a QB next year pehaps. Also there's Ari who likely won't win another game, will pick no worse than 4th and not be looking for a QB. Just a whole lot of ways this draft could play out.

Fwiw, ESPN has Fields going #2 in a 2021 redraft.

#2 among QB's?

Because if it's for overall draft that is nonsense as usual from ESPN

Just looking at stars from that 1st round you have several clearly better and more impactful players and others who it can be debated on

WR Ja'Marr Chase
WR Jaylen Waddle
WR Devonta Smith
TE Kyle Pitts
QB Trevor Lawrence
LB Micah Parsons
CB Patrick Surtain II
LT Rashawn Slater

I could very well see teams saying that this QB class isn't that impressive and thus they opt to kick the can down the road another year when Williams and Maye will top the draft charts in 2024. But, there is also risk in that you have zero clue how the team performs next season and which other team could implode like the Rams, Broncos, Cardinals have this season, and thus fall past you for the worst team in the NFL next season.

If Young had the size of Levis or Stroud, he's a hands down #1 pick in the draft, but most scouts are expecting him to measure in at Russell Wilson's height or under and be around 195 lbs. He won't have Alabama's OL to protect him, so how would he hold up to NFL DL's?
