I have not been encouraged by Fields.

The last few games he has made big strides and swayed me over to the encouraged side.

A receiver or 2 that can go get the ball (and hold on) and an improved D line would make this team a contender.

In the Was vs Indy game, in the fnal minute, McLaurin wrestled a pass away from the defender at about the 1 yd line. He removed his helmet, boasted and didn't get a penalty, all while on the field. I expected to see a flag for removing helmet or taunting, but none was thrown. (Video cuts out just before he removes his helmut)

Because they called a Time out. You can remove helmets during time outs on the field

Needs help on the O line too. The guy needs more time back there. He's getting the shit kicked out of him.

Bears offense needs help everywhere. Fields is showing better, the rb’s are solid. Mooney is a good receiver, not much else there, Kmet is a solid if unspectacular tight end. The o-line has 5 spots that could be much better although Jones has been ok and I like Jenkins.

Think we'd see more production out of Kmet if he didn't have to stay in to help the o-line. He's third in the NFL in total snap counts for TEs, second in terms of a % of team's offensive snaps (92.1%). But has only been targeted 20 times all year in 457 snaps. This is also probably why we also don't see many simple outlet dump offs to the RBs; they're also staying in to help block, when they're not toting the rock.

Shoring up the o-line would allow both the RBs and TE to become more involved in the passing attack.

Agreed.

NFL trades are almost always underwhelming for me, and this is no exception.
You just have to adjust your expectations. There is a large enough sample size to understand how they work. Only premium positions or potential future HOFers get 1st rounders.

The Bears are going to get a haul when a team trades up with them for a QB. Fields has shown enough to get a 3rd season after a rough start.

Even if the draft picks don't work, I'm fine with it. To keep him we'd have had to pay him elite money, and I don't think he's worth elite money, and off-ball LB is not a position you overpay for.
