So which team is in better shape with their rebuild - Hawks or Bears?

I'm going to say the Bears rebuild is in better shape than the Hawks for 2 reasons:

(1) they have their most important piece - their foundational building block in Justin Fields. The Hawks don't have their new version of Toews or Kane.

(2) NFL teams can turn their fortunes around quicker than NHL teams can - primarily because players can come from college and have immediate impact at the NHL level where most NHL prospects need a year or two or three to hit their stride.

Both have to hit on draft picks and free agency and manage salary cap stuff - but unless the Bears screw things up they will probably be a playoff team at least a year or two before the Hawks will be.
