And how many levels less talented (supposedly)?

We are comparing a D1 stud, drafted at the top of the 1st round to a guy who played nowhere and was UNDRAFTED.

I'm not even watching for completions, he is throwing catchable balls to the correct player. Lamb also dropped a sure TD.
He also had 3 years of practice, schooling, sideline experience.

As recent as 2020, he was waived by the Cowboys, claimed by Giants, released to their practice squad and was released from the practice squad. In 2021 Cowboys signed him to their practice squad.

Sounds like a guy that has had a lot of mentoring and grooming. Yeah, sure.

Is that talent supposed to be that Fields looks like a standard pocket passing QB making experienced reads and throws in a system? Not really

I have no issue with those preaching patience for now, given his draft position, but it shouldn’t be a controversial opinion that Fields has shown little or nothing to get excited about. Hope he turns it around, but he’s been very disappointing so far this year. Showing no growth at all.

Since you went there, Brady was a starter in Week 3 season 2. By week 5 he was the offensive player of the week. Patriots went on to finish 11-3 with Brady. Hmmm, strokes chin.

Belicheck wasn't quite Belicheck at that point, his coaching record prior to N.E. was 36/43 and 5/11 his 1st year w/Pats.

Charlie Weis was only in his 3rd season as OC.

No, it's supposed to be that he looks like a competent pro QB in one of the simplest offensive schemes in the league.

In the pocket, rolling out-I don't care what style, show me something that indicates he has a clue at this point.

Are you talking about Fields and the Bears? Because everything I have read says the opposite.... Including the article just posted. It's a sophisticated offense that requires all parties to be in sync to really work. And like, only a couple of Bears have any experience with this offense.

It's too damn early.

Three games with what looks to be at least a serviceable coaching staff. Three. The other 10 he has started he was with one of the historically bad coaching staffs that have graced the Bears the past decade or so since Lovie. Not sure how anyone can write him off already. It's just nonsense. If by the end of this season he still looks really bad, then sure. But now? Undeserving.

The entirety of their offense may be "sophisticated" but what is complex about hitting a receiver in a lateral screen play? What about the Bears' scheme makes it complex for Fields to say, after he threw a pass into triple coverage-I realized it was cover 2 after I threw the pass? WTF? How about walking up to the line of scrimmage and identifying where you think the Bears have the advantage and go from there? What is complicated about -after being flushed from the pocket and no one is open- firing the ball near a receiver's feet and live to fight another day?

All of these and dozens more have no relationship to how complex or simple the Bears' offense is, neither does the reworking of his mechanics. He is gifted athletically, played on great Ohio State teams that could literally just out-talent the opponents. Not in the NFL.

I don't think anyone is writing him off yet, but what have you seen to expect a trajectory change for Fields? Serious question.

I don't know. I'm not an NFL QB, and I don't work in football. I'll leave it to the experts to evaluate him. And pretty much all of them are saying "it's too early". As far as I'm concerned, he's played three games.

He also changed his mechanics during the offseason to get rid of a hitch in his throw. This is absolutely having an effect, as well. Something that should have been identified and worked on when he was drafted. But, you know, that requires a competent coaching staff.

It should have been corrected in college, maybe it's permanent.

(and no one in the business of football is going to give a harsh judgment at this point, not how they do it even if they know it)

Read the article that was posted. It has been all but eliminated. But the new mechanic isn't going to be comfortable yet, and every once in a while you will see the flaw pop up. That's just how muscle memory works.

Literally these bad throw examples are the issues of mechanics being not natural and the mental game not being down. Knowing what this plays goto option, when to move to other targets and in certain coverages, certain looks, picking up on coverage tricks and what options fit his current plays are all mental things that the great QBs have down to instinct. He's nowhere near that because he's starting at a point A in too many things at once.

He should of spent all of last year working on these elements.

Cooper Rush is a mediocre talent, Justin Fields is an underdeveloped talent. One is 29, the other is 23. Being impressed with a mediocre QB like Rush is LOL worthy.

With that said, Fields has GOT to get better. Poles/Eberflus might be saying the right things publically but the fact reamins Fields is NOT THEIR GUY. If Fields don't starting showing something, he will be dealth for a conditional 6/7th round pick in 2024/25 and the Bears will go back to trying to find a QB.

Very scary moment in Tua with the game tonight. Slammed on his back very hard, after "not" having a concussion on Sunday.

Extremities twitching and he was lying there for a long time.

Apparently at the hospital now and has movement, which is good, but the Dolphins should seriously be investigated.
