Serious question:
Do I need to stop comparing young QBs to guys like Brady, Mahomes, and Rodgers and instead compare them to league average guys like Cousins?

Maybe I've been too harsh on Fields (and Trubisky for that matter)
If you are going to compare Fields to those guys at least compare their performances after starting only 11 games. Don't compare Fields with, nor expect his performance to mimic a 5-10 yr vet. Nothing wrong with wanting him to be perfect, but when he is not, don't let it inundate your evaluation. Patience.

Cousins is a top 15 arguably top 10 qb. He still stinks, but in the aggregate he definitely better than league average.

I mean.... I agree that it's too early to fully judge Fields (though I am unimpressed so far), but I'll stand by the opinion that you don't spend a second overall on a guy with the hope that he's league average for his position.

And Cousins is the statpadder-in-chief so far in his career. He's not a guy you want to build around if you want to win the Super Bowl, but watch me eat shit for saying that because Zimmer's no longer holding back that team.

You pretty much have to have a HOF QB to win the title. That's why you compare them to...the HOF QBs, because Fields turning into a Cousins level guy does nothing but put you in purgatory.

Yeah, but comparing Fields after not even a season of games, to Brady, after 20+ seasons of games, is nonsensical. Of course Fields won't look like Brady. It took Brady 5-6 years to REALLY look like the Brady that is the GOAT, anyways. Expecting Fields to be Brady after 12 games is just stupid. Especially when you take into consideration the coaching that Fields had...

Right, that's why I said "pretty much need" and not "absolutely need". Yeah, there's been a few that have lucked out due to an incredible defense, but that's not how you build a team.
See this is why I compare young QBs to the greats. Because you need that type of QB to win consistently in the NFL. You might be able to sneak in with a great D and an average QB on a 3-4 year window and may get one title, but for any success beyond that you need the great QBs.

I've never thought Favre was an angel, but a multi-millionaire manipulating the welfare system of one of the poorest states is really low.

But you compare a 2nd yr player to greats with 10 years experience. Compare them at year 2 … on a terrible team … surrounded by late rd picks and castoffs

KC got absolutely bailed out on that drive, insanely soft penalty/call that should have been called on KC and the Chargers have a pick taken off the board, and then KC scores.
