Not that there was much doubt, but it was pretty clear that having Caleb at QB was very enticing for Johnson. He also gave some props to the Bears defense after they gave him some trouble in 2023.

Ben Johnson’s presser was awesome. Caleb’s interview was outstanding. Great to see so many key guys fly in for it.

Most notable from Ben and Caleb was that clearly this prior staff had zero discipline and zero accountability and that players clearly wanted that.

Jags organization might be more ass backwards than the Bears.

Man, that is some seriously impressive incompetence.

Well they weren't getting Ben Johnson regardless. I wonder if they pair up with McCarthy. He might be the best option left for them to have a coach that works best with Lawrence since Coen is staying put in Tampa.

So, the Jaguars react to already having missed out on their top targets by firing Trent Baalke. Bit late.
Not to pretend that the Bears aren't avoiding this exact position by anything but the whims of fortune, but man this is the kind of stuff that makes you give up.

I dont love Lawrence and never did with his big windup, but he still has ability.

Schemestyle that seems like the Opposite fit to try McCarthy with him.

Bloody hail a lot of Lion fans are super aggro about Ben Johnson coming to The Bears?! Almost every video of them is bashing BJ and trying to retroactively paint Goff as this great QB who made him and Dan Campbell is the real offensive mastermind in Detroit?

I'm taking this is as a great sign. When fans and players are despondent over a coach leaving you know he's good. How many Chiefs fans were worried about their offense when Nagy came to Chicago? Were there any Broncos fans crying a river about Fox getting sacked for Kubiac? I don't recall a mass wave of despair in Indiana when Eberflustered moved on from The Colts to become a head coach? I'll clue you in none.

Dumb fans are dumb. Everyone knows top coordinators get HC gigs. They had one of the hottest coordinators in recent memory. Why wouldn’t he take a HC job and get him and his family financially set for life ?

I just wish the Bears had an OC or DC that was so good that he was poached to a HC job ala Buddy Ryan or Fangio

This late in the game they just don't have many options period. What other offensive minded options are even out there other than McCarthy that would legit get a shot?

Who are IOL options in FA? Trey Smith, Center out of Atlanta, possibly Becton (though I can see them passing on him coming off the Nate Davis situation).

Joe Brady, maybe? Don't know if he'd want the position.

Bad news, all. Per Adam Jahns, Chris Morgan is not being retained.

Neither is Joseph, Beatty, Brown, or Washington. No surprises there.
Thought Dennis Allen as DC under Johnson was an almost given. I didn't know Rooney Rules was in effect for coordinators.
Rooney Rule for coordinators is 1 minority interview. I don't know how effective the Rooney Rule is, especially compared to the draft pick compensation for minority coaches leaving.
