Unless I'm reading the rule wrong, it feels like an egregious miss. And the rule basically says "a defensive player can't push another defensive player into the offensive line," so it doesn't leave a whole lot of room for interpretation.
Yeah, me and my neighbor were watching, and we both commented the same thing on the replay... that it was a blatant penalty, and no idea how the refs missed it.

This episode of the CHGO Bears Podcast brought up the point that the Bears had another punter (UDFA) in camp who's so far putting up basically identical numbers (for another team of course) as Poles' 4th-round find, and that the best punter in the League this year was a 7th-round pick.

This week will be a good test for Thomas Brown. I think the Vikings, more so than any other team, is incredibly dependent on good preparation and game planning from the OC. It's not happenstance that the teams that have put up points on them this season were led by McVay, Johnson, and LaFleur.

If they can do that, the Vikings aren't unbeatable. If they can't, and it's not easy, it will be a third straight loss on Soldier Field, and presumably be 6 straight losses when they get murdered by the Lions on Thanksgiving.

Who would have thought Rodgers would be the last man standing of the HC, GM, and QB when they traded for him?

Every single person who has paid attention to the latter years in his career? Yeah, that sounds right.

So this guy Matt Waldman went on this show, he's been an NFL guy for a while and claims to have sources in Halas Hall. Anyway, he said that basically there were no pre-defined drop steps for Caleb on these plays. (1, 3 step, 5 step, 7 step,) I almost find that entirely unbelievable.

I just can't really believe that. It would be an unheard of lack of understanding how the QB's drop and footwork links to the timing of the routes.

The ONLY reason to believe there may be something to it would be, you know, the noticeable poor timing between Williams's drops and the timing of the routes.

Kurt Warner was on some radio show or other this week and was asked if his noticing that Williams playing looser this week may be related to how it seemed like he had less to do on LOS as well. He went into depth how he, after two MVP awards, left the Rams, went to the Giants, and was asked to do something as simple as pointing out the Mike, and how it slowed his post-snap processing down because he didn't feel he had time to look at the secondary before the snap. He said that both that, and how Williams said they got the play call way faster from Brown, could explain how it looked like he was playing with much more rhythm this week. Because his focus wasn't on calling protections and changing playcalls to something he liked until a second before the play clock expired.

If it looks the same offensively against the Vikings and Lions, I'll start to buy into these ideas a bit more. In which case I'll probably lament that they got the OC they did to tank the first half of the season.

I would find it completely shocking and unheard of. But like you said, the timing had been so bad that it almost makes something so unbelievable, believable.

I remember I warmed to the idea of Waldron because he had experience and success as an oc.

But at first I was concerned he succeeded with a veteran in Smith and it wasn't like he coached up a fresh rookie. I know Seahawks fans said it was the QB coach who was the best piece of that anyway.

The DJ Moore effort stuff is 100% real. I'd have to go watch some film with Fields but he quits on routes constantly.

Also man I expected way more from Darnell Wright this year, although that was kinda thrown to the fire early when he looked like shit in camp.

Yeah, Wright’s not a bust, but through at least the eye-test he’s looking very average.

Yeah, I think he's fine. He might become above average, but I don't think he'll be elite.

That being said, the level of OL play in the league right now is bad enough that even finding a good OT high in the draft is probably a hit value wise. These are the OTs drafted in the first round since Poles became GM:

Ikem Ekwonu
Evan Neal
Charles Cross
Trevor Penning
Paris Johnson Jr.
Darnell Wright
Broderick Jones
Anton Harrison
Joe Alt
JC Latham
Olu Fashanu
Taliese Fuaga
Amarius Mims
Tyler Guyton

Only obviously better players to me are Paris Johnson Jr. and Joe Alt.
